Si vous êtes un étudiant inscrit, vous pouvez y accéder dans ZoneCours 2 Présentation Description Ce séminaire de doctorat en politiques générales d'administration s'adresse aux étudiantes et étudiants du programme conjoint de doctorat qui désirent acquérir les connaissances fondamentales en politiques générales d'administration. À l'heure où une multitude de chercheurs et de consultants s'identifient, publient et interviennent en gestion stratégique, il est de plus en plus essentiel de bien connaître les sources de cette discipline pour être en mesure d'évaluer judicieusement les travaux en cours et d'entreprendre des recherches bien fondées. Alors que plusieurs séminaires offrent un aperçu des écrits récents et des tendances en gestion stratégique, le séminaire de politiques générales propose un retour aux auteurs qui ont marqué profondément le développement de cette discipline. Chaque session portera donc sur un auteur, chercheur ou praticien reconnu pour sa grande contribution au développement des recherches, des écrits et de l'enseignement des politiques générales. Puisqu'il s'agit d'un séminaire, son succès repose sur une contribution personnelle et continuelle de tous les participants. Afin de favoriser une meilleure compréhension et maîtrise des auteurs et des concepts présentés, tous les participants au séminaire devront compléter à chaque session la lecture du livre retenu. Chacun rédigera une ou deux pages de réflexion / commentaires qu'il distribuera aux autres participants. De plus, chaque participant, à tour de rôle, contribuera à l'animation d'une séance. À la fin du séminaire, deux sessions pourraient être consacrées à l'évaluation de nouvelles voies de recherche. Nous nous concentrerons cette année sur la théorie institutionnelle des organisations. Chaque participant devra choisir un livre parmi ceux listés plus loin ou un autre qui soit en rapport avec le thème choisi pour les séances 13 et 14 qui, selon vous, a une importance réelle pour le développement du domaine. Vous pouvez aussi choisir un ensemble de cinq articles, à présenter comme un ensemble contribuant à la compréhension du management stratégique et de la politique générale d'administration. Les choix des étudiants devront être approuvés par le professeur, puis feront l'objet d'une présentation aux séances 13 et 14. Nous sommes, bien entendu, intéressés à faire le lien avec les lectures du séminaire. Prenez cela en compte dans vos choix et dans vos présentations. Pour le travail de session, une réflexion-synthèse devra être faite à la lumière des contributions et des pistes qu'auront laissées les auteurs vus au cours du séminaire. Le choix du thème du papier de synthèse est laissé à la discrétion du participant. Les bons choix dans le passé ont permis soit d'approfondir un sujet qui tenait à coeur au participant, soit de tenter une synthèse de l'ensemble des textes. Lorsque vous aurez un sujet en tête, vous pourriez en discuter avec le professeur. Un document écrit de vingt pages, à double interligne, de qualité publiable et que vous pourriez envoyer à un congrès de l'asac, de l'acfas, de l'a of M, de l'aims ou de la SMS, devra être remis une semaine après la dernière rencontre. Le nombre de participants à ce séminaire est limité à 10 personnes. Les rencontres auront lieu les vendredis avantmidi. La première rencontre de préparation aura lieu le vendredi 26 août 2011 à 16h00 à la salle Groupe Cholette du pavillon du 3000 Côte Ste-Catherine de HEC Montréal. INTRODUCTION This doctoral seminar in business policy is open to all the joint doctoral students who wish to be familiar about the field founding readings. The business policy or strategic management field is now considered well established, and many researchers and consultants publish in journals and identify with the field. In business schools and increasingly in most professional schools, strategic analysis is a topic central to all curricula. It is therefore important for those interested in the subject to understand where the field comes from, to be able to judiciously assess contributions or build relevant and rigorous research. Many seminars offer a wide panorama on recent writings relevant to strategic management and business policy.

2 This seminar proposes something complementary and perhaps necessary to make sense of today's huge literature in the field or relevant to it. It specifically proposes to return back to the authors that have profoundly affected the definition of the field boundaries and the development of its basic concepts. Each session will therefore be devoted to an author; researcher or practitioner recognized for his/her contribution to the development of research, writing, and teaching in business policy. Because this is a seminar, its success rests on each participant's personal and continual contribution. To help the development of a better understanding and mastery of the authors and concepts presented, all the participations are required to read a book or extracts of books at each session. Each participant is required to write a one or two page commentary which will be distributed to all the participants. Furthermore, each participant will have the responsibility of conducting a session. This will be distributed on a first come, first served basis or by mutual adjustments among participants. At the end of the seminar, two sessions will be devoted to the exploration of new and promising lines of research relevant to the field. This year we shall focus on the Institutional theory of organizations. Each participants will have to chose a book related to the topic (some books are listed later as a starting point for investigations by participants) and present it to the group. It is also possible to choose instead of a book, a set of 5 articles, to be presented as a set that contributes to a better understanding of the field of Strategic management and business policy. The participants' choices should be approved by the professor, and will be presented in sessions 13 and 14. Remember that our purpose is to make a link between these presentations and our seminar basic readings. For the session final paper, a theoretical construction-synthesis around the contributions of the authors studied in the seminar is expected. The choice of the topic is the student's responsibility. However, in the past, good papers have either attempted a broad synthesis of the books studied, or used these books to bring light to the student's personal research interests or project. You could discuss your paper ideas with the professor before a final commitment. The paper should be no more than 20 pages double spaced, and of a quality sufficient to be accepted for presentation at a strategic management conference. You could target ASAC, ACFAS, A of M, SMS or AIMS. It must be handed in a week after the last session. The number of participants to this seminar is limited to 10. The sessions are scheduled for Fridays. The first meeting is a pre-seminar meeting and will be used for the introduction and other seminar organizational issues.
