This time at the helm is long time Angus resident, Tony Hooymans. Tony loves to cook and just wanted to be able to give something back to the community. He plans to keep D.J s family atmosphere, but has made some changes to the menu. As there are limited options for a better quality entrée such as steak or salmon in Angus, Tony has decided to fill the gap. It gives people the chance to come and sit in a comfortable environment and enjoy a nice family dinner, he commented. It will also provide a place for a night out, anniversary dinner or other special occasion without the trek into Barrie. Christmas bazaar Angus United Church is having their annual Christmas bazaar, bake sale, luncheon and penny table on Saturday, November 2, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Angus United Church is located at 56 Jonas Street, Angus. We are in the process of contacting all businesses, clubs and organizations in the area for their participation in the parade. The theme is Celebrating the Colours of Christmas. Start time for the parade is 10 a.m. (form up starts at 9:15 a.m.) from Peacekeepers Park across from Sobeys and going along Mill St to the Essa arena where children will have the opportunity to visit with Santa and have their picture taken. You will be able to take pictures of your children with Santa, so don t forget your cameras! HRH, The Princess Royal met with personnel of all ranks of the Royal Canadian Medical Service (RCMS) at their Home Station, the Canadian Forces Health Services Training Centre (CFHSTC) here at Borden. Princess Anne is the Colonel-In-Chief of RCMS. During the visit, HRH, The Princess Royal presented the RCMS with a Princess Royal s Banner. This Royal Banner honours and recognizes the dedication, courage, valour and sacrifice that you and your comrades who fell in Afghanistan have so faithfully demonstrated in doing your duty. You have truly honoured your predecessors, commented HRH, The Princess Royal, during the presentation. It is only the third banner ever presented to a Canadian Armed Forces element, the last time being in 1985 by the Queen Mother to RCMS. The Royal Canadian Medical Service was already deeply honoured just to have a Colonel-in- Chief whose life has been such a noble example of duty and service. It's an even greater honour for Her Royal Highness to travel so far to present us a Royal Banner in recognition of our members' tremendous skill, valour and sacrifice in recent operations, said Brigadier-General Bernier. We gratefully share this recognition with our civilian medical and community partners. Our personnel could not sustain the risks and sacrifices of military service, nor medically support the armed forces to such a high standard, without the extensive support that they so faithfully and enthusiastically provide us. With 1 Canadian Field Hospital also making a rare appearance at Borden, HRH, The Princess Royal had an opportunity to visit a Collective Protection unit which was stationed outside the CF Health Services Training Centre for the occasion. A ColPro unit is a contained safe environment that provides hospital services during a chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear disaster. HRH, The Princess Royal also stopped in Barrie on October 22 to conduct her first ever Colonel-in- Chief visit to The Grey and Simcoe Foresters in Barrie. SAR est le colonel en chef du Service de santé. Nous sommes encore plus honorés du fait que Son Altesse Royale se soit déplacée de si loin pour venir nous présenter une bannière royale, afin de féliciter nos membres de leurs remarquables compétences, et de les remercier de la vaillance et de l esprit de sacrifice dont ils ont fait preuve au cours des opérations récentes», a affirmé le brigadiergénéral Bernier. «Nous tenons également à ce que cette marque de reconnaissance rejaillisse sur notre personnel médical civil et nos partenaires dans la collectivité. Nos militaires ne pourraient pas assumer les risques et les sacrifices inhérents au service militaire, ni offrir un soutien médical d aussi haut niveau à leurs collègues d autres armes sans l aide généreuse qu ils nous apportent si fidèlement et avec enthousiasme.» Par ailleurs, le 1er Hôpital de campagne du Canada étant aussi exceptionnellement de passage à la BFC Borden. SAR la princesse Royale a donc pu visiter une unité de protection chimique, biologique, radiologique et nucléaire collective (PROCOL), établie à l extérieur du CISSFC pour l occasion. Une unité COL- PRO offre un milieu fermé et sécuritaire, dans lequel sont prodigués les services hospitaliers lors d une catastrophe chimique, biologique, radiologique ou nucléaire. SAR la princesse Royale a aussi fait un arrêt à Barrie, le 22 octobre, afin de rendre visite pour la première fois aux Grey and Simcoe Foresters, en tant que colonel en chef.

4 4 October 25 octobre 2013 Citoyen Borden Citizen Running for Operation Hero CFB Borden was the site of the 4th annual Base Borden Run on Sunday, October 20. Over 600 people crowded the parking area across from the Buell Fitness Centre awaiting their race to begin. The Base Borden Run supports Operation Hero, a program initiated by Hon. Colonel Jamie Massie, to fund yearly scholarships at Georgian College for families and dependents of CF members. There were three races available to runners this year: the 5km, the 10km and the 21km half marathon. Participants included runners from local communities, the base and our Borden Striders running club who were out in force. While runners waited for their race to start, the military put out a display of weapons and vehicles for the public to look at and ask questions of the soldiers on hand. Thanks to all who supported the run and came out for some exercise on a beautiful day. "BORDENLICIOUS at the BORDEN GOLF CLUB" The golf season may be coming to an end, but the service providing you with great food and drinks continues into November. The Borden Golf Club will be keeping its doors open for lunch on Thursdays and Fridays. Come join us for a delicious bite to eat anytime between 1100 and 1400 hrs. La Course de la BFC Borden vise à soutenir l opération Héros, un programme mis sur pied par le colonel honoraire Jamie Massie, afin de permettre aux familles et aux personnes à charge des militaires canadiens de fréquenter le Collège Georgian, grâce à des bourses d études offertes chaque année. 7 Citoyen Borden Citizen October 25 octobre Ten straight days of CAF National Sports competition in Borden BY/PAR: MIKE PRIDDING National Sports Coordinator Coordinateur des Sports Nationaux It was a busy ten days of sports in September at CFB Borden. The CAF National Men s and Women s Soccer Championships were held from 7-13 September. As the Soccer athletes were leaving town, the Slo-Pitch athletes were on their way to Borden for the CAF National Men s and Women s Slo-Pitch Championships from September. Soccer The Women s Soccer competition did not disappoint this year with many close matches. After the round-robin, the Atlantic All-Stars were in first place with a record of three wins and one loss, followed by CFB Petawawa in second, CSFU Ottawa in third and CFB Esquimalt in fourth. The Prairie All-Star team was eliminated. In the semi-finals, the Atlantic All-Stars defeated CFB Esquimalt and CFSU Ottawa eliminated CFB Petawawa. During the championship game Shelby Lewis of the Atlantic All-Star team was the only person who could find the back of the net, she scored early in the first half and it stood to be the winning strike. The Atlantic All-Star team defeated CFSU Ottawa 1-0 to take the title. On the Men s side, competition was even closer through the round-robin. CFB Gagetown finished first with a record of three wins and one loss. Closely behind them was CFB Edmonton finishing in second, CFB Petawawa, CFSU Ottawa and CFB Esquimalt all finished with one win, two losses and one tie. CFB Esquimalt was eliminated based on a goals for/against quotient. In the semi-finals, CFB Gagetown eliminated CFSU Ottawa, and CFB Edmonton defeated CFB Petawawa in penalty kicks. CFB Edmonton came out pushing hard and came within a goal late in the game. CFB Edmonton was unable to get the equalizer and CFB Gagetown took gold with a 2-1 victory. Slo-Pitch The Women s Slo-Pitch Championship was full of excitement. Through the round-robin, CFB Halifax went undefeated with four wins, followed closely by 4 Wing Cold Lake with three wins, CFB Petawawa with two wins and CFB Valcartier with one win. CFB Esquimalt was eliminated from play after the round-robin. In the semi-finals, 4 Wing Cold Lake eliminated CFB Petawawa to advance to the finals. In the other semi-final game, CFB Valcartier upset CFB Halifax to advance to the finals as the fourth place seed. CFB Valcartier rode the momentum into the Championship game defeating 4 Wing Cold Lake 13-2 to take the gold medal. The Men s side did not disappoint with what seemed to be an offensive battle throughout the tournament. Through the round robin, CFB Gagetown finished first with three wins, followed by 4 Wing Cold Lake in second, 8 Wing Trenton in third and CFB Valcartier in fourth. 19 Wing Comox was eliminated from play after the round robin. CFB Gagetown met CFB Valcartier in one of the semi-final games. CFB Gagetown came out on top of this exciting game In the other semi-final game, 8 Wing Trenton eliminated 4 Wing Cold Lake CFB Gagetown s bats continued to be hot in the final game defeating 8 Wing Tenton 26-6 to win the gold medal. Thank you to all volunteers, trainers, officials and Jury of Appeal for making this year s Championship a success. Les Championnats de soccer masculin et féminin des FAC ont d abord eu lieu du 7 au 13 septembre. Puis, au moment où les athlètes de soccer quittaient la Base, ceux de la balle lente sont arrivés pour participer à leurs propres Championnats nationaux masculin et féminin, qui se sont déroulés du 14 au 18 septembre. Soccer Les compétitrices de soccer n ont pas déçu cette année; elles ont joué de nombreux matchs très serrés. Après le tournoi à la ronde, les All-Stars de l Atlantique comptait trois victoires et une défaite, ce qui les plaçait en première place. Elles étaient suivies respectivement des équipes de la BFC Petawawa, de l Unité de soutien du personnel (Ottawa) et de la BFC Esquimalt. L équipe All Star des Prairies a quant à elle été éliminée. Au cours des demi-finales, l Atlantique a vaincu Esquimalt, et Ottawa a éliminé Petawawa. La BFC Gagetown a terminé première en remportant trois victoires et en subissant une défaite. Non loin derrière se trouvait la BFC Edmonton, en deuxième place. La BFC Petawawa, l Unité de soutien d Ottawa et la BFC Esquimalt sont toutes sorties du Championnat en ayant récolté une victoire, deux défaites et un match nul. Esquimalt a été éliminée à la suite du calcul du ratio entre les buts comptés et les but accordés. Durant les demi-finales, Gagetown a éliminé Ottawa, et Edmonton a défait Petawawa grâce à des coups de pied de réparation. Au cours de la finale, Gagetown a compté deux buts durant la première moitié, menant ainsi 2-0. Edmonton a alors redoublé d ardeur et a réussi à marquer tard dans la partie, mais n a pas été en mesure d obtenir un match nul. En ce qui concerne la 19e Escadre Comox, elle a été éliminée du jeu à la suite du tournoi à la ronde. En demi finale, Gagetown a affronté Valcartier au cours d un match enlevant, d où elle est sortie gagnante 27 à 21. 8 8 October 25 octobre 2013 Citoyen Borden Citizen For the love of sport 29 year-old Mike Pridding recently took over as National Sports Coordinator here at CFB Borden. Pridding graduated from Laurentian University with a BA in Physical and Health Education and a BA in Education. While he attended Laurentian, Pridding had the opportunity to act as Head Convener for intermural sports. Organizing and running these activities, his interest in sports was sparked. Pridding came to Borden when a friend told him about the PSP Fitness positions at the base. Prior to this, he had been working as a teacher. I decided that this is where the fun is. Even though I enjoy teaching, I find teaching adults and working in sport a lot more fun than sitting in a classroom. Pridding had also had exposure to military life through his family and did not hesitate to join Borden s staff. Sometimes its challenging working with the military, you need to understand the rank system and military culture. But they are very respectful, learn well and have the discipline and respect for us and what we do, whereas that wasn t always the case as a teacher. The first 6 months at Borden, Pridding worked as a Fitness Instructor, switching over to Assistant National Sports Coordinator, and bouncing around for the next while between National Sports and Fitness positions. Finally, Pridding got his opportunity and now runs National Sports. Ultimately I am always striving for something better. I would eventually like to be a director one day but right now this is the perfect spot for me. Although National Sports is a lot of work, Pridding is in his element. The best part of National sports is when all is said and done and we have the closing banquet. Every participant, every organizer and every official is there just enjoying and celebrating the end of a successful championship, and afterwards, once we are done, the participants are coming up and thanking you for all the hard work; the week that was made possible by months and months of preparation. It s very gratifying. Thanks Mike for all your hard work and dedication to make National Sports events successful and fun activities for all to enjoy! Pour l amour du sport Mike Pridding, âgé de 29 ans, a récemment accepté le poste de coordonnateur des sports nationaux à la BFC Borden. Mike a fait ses études à l Université Laurentienne, où il a obtenu un baccalauréat en éducation physique et en santé, ainsi qu un baccalauréat en éducation. Au cours de ses études, il a eu l occasion d agir à titre d organisateur en chef des compétitions sportives internes. C est en organisant et en dirigeant ces activités qu il a pris conscience de son intérêt pour les sports. Mike s est dirigé vers la BFC Borden après qu un ami lui a parlé des postes à pourvoir dans la Base dans le domaine du conditionnement physique, au sein des Programmes de soutien du personnel. Jusqu à ce moment, il était enseignant. «J ai décidé que ce serait de cette façon que j aurais du plaisir. Bien que j aime enseigner, j ai beaucoup plus de plaisir à donner de la formation aux adultes et à travailler dans le domaine des sports qu à prendre place dans une salle de classe.» Il a également fait l expérience de la vie militaire grâce à sa famille et n a pas hésité à faire partie du personnel de Borden. «Il est parfois difficile de travailler avec les militaires, car il faut comprendre la hiérarchie et la culture militaires. Mais ils apprennent vite, sont disciplinés et nous respectent, nous et notre travail, ce qui n est pas toujours le cas dans l enseignement.» Au cours de ses six premiers mois à Borden, Mike a d abord travaillé en tant qu instructeur de conditionnement physique, puis comme coordonnateur adjoint des sports nationaux. Il a ensuite occupé divers postes liés aux sports nationaux et au conditionnement physique, puis il a enfin eu sa chance de diriger les sports nationaux, ce qu il fait à l heure actuelle. «Finalement, j aspire toujours à trouver mieux. J aimerais un jour être directeur, mais pour l instant, c est le poste idéal pour moi.» Bien que les sports nationaux représentent beaucoup de travail, Mike est dans son élément. «Le meilleur moment des sports nationaux est lorsque tous les participants, organisateurs et arbitres sont réunis au banquet de clôture, et qu ils célèbrent la fin d un championnat réussi. Puis lorsque, par la suite, les participants viennent nous remercier de notre bon travail, soit des mois et des mois de préparation pour assurer le succès des activités. C est très valorisant.» Nous remercions Mike de son travail acharné et de son dévouement visant à assurer le succès des championnats nationaux et à offrir des activités amusantes pour tous!

Leading up to this, the Firehall opened its doors for an Open House, ran an extinguisher inspection/exchange program, and gave out fire prevention information at CANEX. With multiple fire drills in buildings around base and at base schools, the fire department was kept busy. Prevention week was good this year, commented Borden s Chief Fire Inspector, Nathan Clarke. We did public schools for tours all week. We conducted approximately 40 evacs, which were live evacuations with smoke, and probably within the last year have conducted 1000 fire inspections, so its been a busy year and a busy week for us. The drills went excellent and as planned. Fire prevention is everyone s responsibility. We have a very good team of fire safety individuals on the base so it s gone very well. The 2013 Fire Warden Award went to Cpl P. Koutras, and the Unit Fire Prevention Award went to MWO M.D. Switzer. A special commendation went to Sgt K.A. Carter who was recognized for her quick and decisive action in extinguishing a kitchen grease fire on July 5, at P-153. Sgt Carter immediately took control of the situation by notifying the fire hall and preventing the fire from spreading with the use of a portable fire extinguisher. Sgt Carter s quick action and calm presence averted a potentially catastrophic incident and resulted in no injuries or monetary loss. Congratulations Sgt Carter! Nous avons aussi procédé à environ 40 évacuations avec fumée, en plus d avoir effectué sans doute un millier d inspections de sécuritéincendie cette année. La semaine fut donc aussi chargée que le reste de l année. Les évacuations se sont très bien déroulées, comme prévu. Il faut dire que nous sommes tous responsables de prévenir les incendies. 12 12 October 25 octobre 2013 Citoyen Borden Citizen CFB Borden particpiates in Orillia Dragonboat festival BY/PAR : SGT STÉPHANE JOLY Early Saturday morning, September 21, Orillia s Couchiching Park was busy with Dragon Boat teams assembling and getting ready to pound the waves. While the ground was being pounded by what it seemed like endless waves of rain and the air seemed gloomy, you could not tell that of all the participants of the 7th Annual Orillia Dragon Boat event. With a heartfelt welcome from the organizers, the teams merrily braved the cool waters. Teams cheered each other as they made their way to and from the rendezvous point. For the organizers, helpers, and spectators who also braved the weather, it was a challenge to keep themselves dry. For the team leaders and team members, it was also challenging to keep the morale high within the teams. Of the more than 20 teams participating this year, three of them came from CFB Borden: Lightning of Tech Svcs/TIS, Whyte Tigers of R&QSS and the 16 Wing Silver Darts. Throughout the day, each team completed three races; two to qualify them for a final race division, and one for the final race. Surprisingly enough, all of our three Base teams ended in the C division final. Now you know it was going to be a grudge match when the announcement came. C division got to be rapidly known as the Canadian Military team final. Après de chaleureux mots de bienvenue de la part des organisateurs, les équipes ont de bon coeur attaqué les eaux pas très chaudes. Les équipes s encourageaient les unes les autres pendant qu elles se rendaient jusqu au point de rendez-vous et en revenaient. Pour les organisateurs, les bénévoles et les spectateurs qui bravaient aussi le mauvais temps, il n était pas facile de rester au sec. Pour les chefs et les membres des équipes, maintenir le moral élevé parmi leur équipe représentait aussi tout un défi. Parmi les plus de 20 équipes participantes cette année, trois provenaient de la BFC Borden : le Lightning des Services techniques/sit, les Whyte Tigers des SSV et L et les Silver Darts de la 16e Escadre. Durant toute la journée, chaque équipe participait à trois courses; deux pour se qualifier pour une course finale de division, et la course finale. Fait assez surprenant, toutes nos trois équipes de la Base se sont retrouvées dans la finale de la division «C». Il va sans dire que l atmosphère était rights before the final race. Halloween Safety Tips Parents and adults should: Supervise the outing for children under age 12. Establish a curfew (a return time) for older children and have them call home if there is a problem. Prepare homes for trick-or-treaters by clearing porches, lawns, and sidewalks. Use jack-o-lanterns to light stairs and porches. Halloween style flashlights make a great addition to your child s costume and add an extra safety feature. Reflective tape on costumes can also help being more visible in the dark by motor vehicle. 16 16 October 25 octobre 2013 Citoyen Borden Citizen Governor General presents medal to local soldier BY PAR : CAPT ROBERT MUNROE Warrant Officer Mark Kendall from the 3rd Canadian Ranger Patrol Group was presented the Meritorious Service Medal for saving the life of a distraught woman in northern Ontario. In January 2011, in the remote First Nation community of Sandy Lake, the local police received a call about a distraught woman on the Severn River. The woman who was determined to end her life was near an area of the river where fast moving currents make the ice extremely unstable. After failing to reason with the woman, and fearing the safety of everyone involved, the police pulled back. Warrant Officer Kendall who was in the community as a Junior Canadian Ranger instructor, donned an ice water rescue suit while local Rangers secured his safety line. After trying unsuccessfully to reason with the young woman he saw an opportunity when she attempted to move to a more dangerous part of the river. Warrant Officer Kendall quickly tackled and held on to her while police and Rangers pulled them both back to safety. At a recent ceremony at Rideau Hall in Ottawa, the Governor General, David Johnston presented Warrant Officer Kendall with the Meritorious Service Medal. It felt very good to be recognized, said Warrant Officer Kendall. For years we provided our Ranger instructors with ice water rescue training, said Lieutenant-Colonel Matthew Richardson, commanding officer for the 3rd Canadian Ranger Patrol Group. I am thankful that this training has paid off as there is one person who is alive today because of the Warrant Officer Kendall s actions. Since joining the Canadian Armed Forces Reserves in June 1993 Warrant Officer Kendall has been involved with domestic emergencies such as the Red River flood in 1997 and the Ice Storm of Warrant Officer Kendall also did a tour in Afghanistan. For the past three years he has been working as an instructor for the Junior Canadian Rangers in northern Ontario. Warrant Officer Kendall has moved to northern Ontario to work full time as an educational consultant in 20 First Nation schools but he will still contribute to the Junior Canadian Rangers as a part-time reserve force instructor. There are approximately 550 Canadian Rangers and 700 Junior Canadian Rangers located across 23 northern Ontario communities. La mention accompagnant la médaille était, en partie, libellée comme suit : «La vivacité d esprit de l Adj Kendall est tout à l honneur des Rangers canadiens et des Forces armées canadiennes». «Ça fait énormément plaisir d'être de récompensé. Chaque fois que je vais dans le Nord, je me souviens de cette jeune femme sur la glace. Je suis vraiment reconnaissant que mes collègues Rangers de Sandy Lake étaient là pour m'aider en cas de trouble», a indiqué l Adj Kendall. «Depuis des années, nous offrons une formation de sauvetage en eau glacée à nos instructeurs. Je suis heureux que cette formation ait été payante, car une personne est en vie aujourd hui grâce aux actions de l Adj Kendall», a affirmé le lieutenant colonel Matthew Richardson, commandant du 3e Groupe de patrouilles des Rangers canadiens. 18 18 October 25 octobre 2013 Citoyen Borden Citizen Chapel Coordinators Gather BY/PAR PADRE GORD POLEY 14 Wing Greenwood, NS/14e Escadre, Greenwood, NS The Canadian Armed Forces currently have 35 Chapel communities supporting our members and their families here in Canada. Most of these military Chapel communities have more than one Chaplain giving support to the Chapel, however, it is the Chapel Life Coordinator (CLC) who acts like a Primary Pastor of the flock and is responsible for the coordination of the ministries at the Chapel as well as the worship services. Chaplains, as you probably know, are not general service officers. These officers qualify for employment in a variety of any occupational positions because of their general training and experience. No, Chaplains are Specialist Officers and are normally employed exclusively as Chaplains. Two peculiarities of chaplains are 1) they are non-combatants and therefore never carry a weapon and 2) they are officers that never command the troops. Chaplains have influence and make recommendations to the Commanding Officer but they, themselves, command no one. Recently, the Canadian Forces Chaplains School & Centre offered a CLC course for Protestant Chaplains. If Chaplains are unique as Officers, then CLCs are also unique as Chaplains. It is as a CLC that a chaplain s leadership skills are stretched and challenged. For example, during the week I give chaplain support to a Wing Operations, two flying squadrons and two non-flying units; however, I lead no one. On the other hand, as the CLC, it takes great leadership skill to lead and grow a military chapel ministry, perhaps even more leadership intensive than that experienced by my general officer colleagues. Why do I say this? Because they lead employees and I lead volunteers. There is a huge difference. There are no ramifications for chapel volunteers to stay home or go somewhere else. I have never heard of an AWOL Summary Trial at the chapel for absent volunteers. For this reason, Church Leadership professional Bill Hybels says, I believe the local church is the most leadership intensive enterprise in society. When you consider the challenges of leading a military chapel together with the unique dynamics of losing military members to deployments, postings and retirements is it any wonder that at times our chapel communities have struggled? This is precisely why the Chaplain School (CFChSC) offered a CLC course to train and encourage those who are coordinating the vital role of our Chapels. These military Chapels offer a vital spiritual community, resource and support to our military members and their families as they engage in challenges of both ordinary life and military life. Chaplain School Commandant LCol Paul Acton, explained to those of us on CLC course, that what we do in our Chapels is so vital, his top priority was to make sure that our instructor not only could teach content but inspire with his passion for the role of the CLC. All of the class would testify, mission accomplished by our daily instructor, Padre Dwayne Bos from Trinity Chapel at CFB Borden. The same could be said of the Course Director, Padre Richard Bastien. La plupart de ces chapelles militaires ont plus d'un padre (aumônier) donnant de leur soutien, mais c'est le Coordonnateur des activités de la chapelle (CAC) qui est le pasteur principal du troupeau et qui est responsable de la coordination des ministères de la chapelle ainsi que des services de culte et d'adoration. Les aumôniers, comme vous le savez peut-être déjà, ne sont pas des officiers du service général. Ces officiers se qualifient pour plusieurs types de travail selon leur expériences et entrainement général. Tandis qu'un aumônier est un officier spécialisé et est uniquement employé en ce sens. Il y a deux particularités qu'on reconnaît chez les aumôniers: 1- Ils sont des non-combattants et ne portent jamais d'armes. 2- Ils sont des officiers mais ne commandent jamais de troupes. L'aumônier influence et fais des recommandations à l'officier commandant mais lui-même ne commande personne. Récemment, le Centre-École des aumôniers des Forces canadiennes (CÉAFC) a offert un cours pour les aumôniers protestants. Si les aumôniers sont uniques, alors les CAC sont également uniques comme aumôniers responsables. C'est en tant que coordonnateur que les forces de celui-ci sont mises au défi face aux multiples tâches et besoins dans une chapelle militaire. Par exemple, durant la semaine je soutien en tant qu aumônier les opérations d une escadre, deux escadrons volantes ainsi que deux unités statiques, cependant je dirige personne. D'un autre côté comme CAC, il me faut de grandes capacités de leadership pour conduire et faire grandir une chapelle militaire. Peut-être même plus de leadership intensif que mes collègues officiers. Pourquoi je vous dis cela? Parce que mes collègues dirigent des employés et moi des volontaires. Il y a une énorme différence. A ma connaissance il n'existe pas de conséquence pour des bénévoles de chapelles de rester à la maison ou d'aller ailleurs. Je n'ai jamais entendu parler d'un procès sommaire envers des volontaires pour raisons «d absence sans permission». Laissez-moi citer Bill Hybels, un leader professionnel pour les églises, qui a dit: «Je crois que l'église locale est l'entreprise qui exige le plus de leadership intensif». Quand on considère les défis qu'apportent la coordination d une chapelle avec la dynamique unique de perdre ses membres pour un déploiement, un déménagement ou une retraite, il n est pas très rare de constater que parfois, les chapelles communautaires ont la vie difficile. C'est pourquoi l école des aumôniers (CÉAFC) offre un cours spécifiquement pour encourager et mieux équiper les aumôniers coordonnateurs des chapelles. Ces chapelles militaire ont un rôle vital face à la spiritualité communautaire et offre un réel soutient aux membres militaires ainsi qu'à leur famille qui font face aux double défis de la vie normale et de la vie militaire. Le Commandant de l'école, le Lcol Paul Acton, nous a expliqué pendant le cours que ce que nous faisons dans les chapelles est si vital, que sa priorité était de s'assurer que nos instructeurs pouvaient non seulement bien enseigner leur matière, mais qu'ils soient aussi inspirants et passionnés pour le rôle de l aumônier coordonnateur. Toute la classe pourrait témoigner que ce fut «Mission accomplie». Que ce soit par l'instructeur principal, le Padre Dwayne Bos de la Chapelle Trinity à la BFC Borden ou par le Directeur du Cours, le Padre Richard Bastien. If you are considering a joint account, be sure your joint account holder is trustworthy. Remember, if you don't have enough money in your account to pay your expenses, the joint account holder could not pay your bills. Appointing a power of attorney for finances lets you give someone access to all your assets to pay your bills. A joint account gives you a chance to beat the tax man if you give the joint account holder a "right of survivorship." Just as a joint account cannot replace a power of attorney for finances, it cannot replace a will as an estate planning tool. Leaving everything to the joint account holder to avoid probate taxes may be fine with the joint account holder, but the rest of your family may not think much of the idea. A joint account gives you interesting options when planning your estate. They should be used carefully though and as part of your overall plan and not as a substitute for it.
