1 41 FRENCH IMMERSION PROGRAM Students who enter grade 9 with a minimum of 3800 hours of Immersion French instruction can enroll in the grade 9 Immersion courses. In order to receive the Certificate of Immersion French Study 10 courses must be successfully completed including: FIF 4UF Students who complete 9 courses will receive the E.D.H.S. Certificate of French Language Instruction. L etudiant apprendra comment faire des recherches electroniques, communiquer par la correspondance electronique et l emploi du logiciel des affaires. L etudiant explorera aussi quelques carrieres possibles dans la technologie informatique. BTT 1OF Business - Introduction to Information Technology in Business (offered September 2008/09) This course introduces students to the use of information technology in a business environment. Students will learn how to use information technology in a work environment, perform electronic research, communicate electronically, and use common business software. They will also explore possible future occupations in information technology. CGC 1DF Geographie du Canada, academique (offert septembre 2008/09) Ce cours explore le caractere distinct et changeant du Canada dans la geographie physique, ecologique, humaine et economique. L eleve va examiner les connections parmi le climat, le sol, les plantes, les animaux et les terra formes aux ecozones canadiens dans le but d ameliorer les connaissances et habilites geographiques qui contribuent a la comprehension de la diversite canadienne et son role mondiale. CGC 1DF Geography of Canada, grade 9, academic (offered September 2008/09) This course draws upon students everyday experiences and uses a variety of frameworks, including the ecozone framework, to help students learn about the geography of Canada and the country s place in the global community. Students will investigate the intercommunications among the country s land forms, climates, soils, plants, animals, and human activities in order to understand Canada s character and diversity. FIF 1DF 9e Annee, Immersion Francaise (theorique) Dans ce cours l eleve developpe ses competences langagieres par la lecture et l ecriture de divers textes. L eleve acquiert une plus grande aisance en communication orale en faisant de diverses presentations. En litterature, l eleve examine des oeuvres contemporaines: un roman, des poesies, legendes, chansons, films, articles des journaux des regions (pays) francophones en Amerique du Nord. 3 FIF 1DF French Immersion, grade 9, academic This course enables students to enhance their knowledge of the French language and to further develop their language skills through the study of twentieth-century North American francophone literature and culture. Students will participate in oral communication, reading, and writing activities as comprendre la societe democratique dans un monde en pleine evolution. L eleve decouvre ce qui caracterise la citoyenne ou le citoyen responsable, ce qui l incite a s engager de facon concertee au service de sa communaute.they study an authentic novel and selected authentic poems, legends, songs, films, and newspaper articles from Frenchspeaking parts of North America. CHC 2DF Le Canada au cours du 20 ieme siecle - niveau academiq (offert septembre 2009/10) - immersion francaise On etudie le developpement du Canada, d une colonie britannique a un pays independant, pendant le 20e siecle. Ce cours examine quelques grands evenements et les problemes que le Canada a vu durant ce siecle. Il y a cinq sujets majeurs: Les systemes politiques et judiciaries. Les relations internationales Les relations franco-anglaises Les relations franco-americaines Les questions sociales et economiques CHC 2DF Canadian History in the Twentieth-Century - academic (offered September 2009/10) This course explores Canadian participation in global events and traces our development as a country through changes in population, economy, and technology. Students will analyse the elements that constitute Canadian identity, learn the stories of both individuals and communities, and study the evolution of political and social structures. Students will learn about differing interpretations of the past, and will come to understand the importance in historical studies of chronology and cause-and-effect relationships. They will also learn to develop and support a thesis, conduct research and analysis, and effectively communicate the results of their inquiries. 43 CHV 2OF Education a la Citoyennete (offert Septembre 2009/10) Dans ce cours, l eleve developpe des qualites et acquiert des connaissances qui l aideront a mieux. CHV 2OF Civics, Grade 10, Open (offered September 2009/10) This course explores what it means to be an informed, participating citizen in a democratic society. Students will learn about the elements of democracy and the meaning of democratic citizenship in local, national, and global contexts. In addition, students will learn about social change, examine decision-making processes in Canada, explore their own and others beliefs and perspectives on civics questions, and learn how to think and act critically and creatively about public issues. Prerequisite: None

Students will participate in oral communication, reading, and writing activities based on a variety of French literary and media works. They will study at least one novel and a selection of poems, short stories, films, plays, and newspaper and magazine articles. Prerequisite: French Immersion, grade 9, academic. A fee will be charged for the work book. GLC 2OF Exploration des Choix de Carriere (offert Septembre 2009/10) Ce cours porte sur la definition et l atteinte des objectifs de l eleve sur le plan des etudes, du travail et de la vie communautaire, durant et apres le palier secondaire. L apprentissage de l eleve comprend une evaluation globale de ses connaissances, de ses habilites et de ses capacites ainsi qu un survol des grandes tendances economiques et sociales. L eleve etudie egalement l organisation du milieu de travail ainsi que les facons d acceder au marche du travail. La preparation d un plan de formation detaille et une reflexion sur la necessite de s adapter au changement visant a favoriser l atteinte des objectifs de l eleve. GLC 2OF Career Studies, Grade 10, open (offered September 2009/10) This course teaches students how to develop and achieve personal goals in education and work and contribute to their communities. Student learning will include assessing their own knowledge, skills, and characteristics and investigating economic trends, workplace organization, work opportunities, and ways to search for work. The course explores postsecondary learning options, prepares students for community-based learning, and helps them build the capabilities needed for managing work and life transitions. Students will design action plans for pursuing their goals. Prerequisite: None ADA 3OF Premier Cours en Arts Dramatiques - Immersion Francaise (offert septembre 2008/09) Ce cours vise a developper la confiance en soi, le comportement, la concentration, la cooperation et l imagination. Travail individuel et en petits groupes developpera chez l etudiant l habilete de travailler en equipes et d etre conscient des autres. L etudiant sera expose a des pieces de theatre en classe et hors de l ecole dans le but de developper une appreciation critique des productions dramatiques. Des unites sur la concentration, le tableau, le mime, l improvisation, l analyse et la redaction des scenes et des pieces developperont le but primaire de la creativite.

5 45 ADA 3OF The Introductory Course in Dramatic Arts (offered September 2008/09) The course aims to develop self-confidence, self-control, concentration, co-operation and imagination. Individual and small group work will develop the students ability to work with a team and to become more aware of others. Students will be exposed to theatrical productions both in and out of school in order to develop a critical appreciation of dramatic productions. The primary goal of the course is creativity, which will be developed through units such as concentrating tableau, mime, improvisation and elementary scene and playwriting. CHW 3MF Histoire Mondiale Jusqu au XVI Siecle (offert septembre 2009/10) Preealable: Histoire du Canada au XX siecle, 10 annee, cours theorique Ce cours constitue un survol de l histoire de l humanite jusqu au XVI siecle. L eleve analyse diverses societes en pretant une attention particuliere aux structures politiques, culturelles et economiques ainsi qu aux forces historiques qui constituent les assises du monde moderne. Il ou elle examine aussi le role de certaines personnes d exception et de certaines decouvertes tout en faisant l acquisition de competences en recherche historique, en analyse et en communication. CHW 3MF World History to the Sixteenth Century, grade 11, university/college preparation - (offered September 2009/10) This course investigates the history of humanity from earliest times to the sixteenth century. Students will analyse diverse societies from around the world, with particular regard to the political, cultural, and economic structures and historical forces that form the foundation of the modern world. They will examine the influence of selected individuals and groups, as well as of particular innovations, and will develop skills of historical inquiry, organization, analysis, and communication. Prerequisite: Canadian History in the Twentieth Century, Grade 10, Academic or Applied FIF 3UF French Immersion, grade 11, university preparation (offered 2008/09) Ce cours permet a l eleve de consolider ses connaissances de la langue francaises a travers l etude de la literature et de la culture des pays francophones. L eleve etudiera des ouvrages tels que romans, poemes, films, pieces...qui l aideront a ecrire une variete d ouvrages. On lui demandera aussi d ecrire au moins une redaction de recherche formelle. Ses connaissances linguistiques, ecrites et orals, seront consolidees et ameliorees dans ce cours. Preealable: FIF 2DF A fee will be charged for the Workbook. FIF 3UF French Immersion, grade 11, university preparation, (offered 2008/09) This course develops knowledge and language skills through the study of francophone literature and culture from around the world. Students will study novels, plays, poems, short stories, films, and non-fiction works and produce written assignments in a variety of forms, including critiques and precis. They will also write a formal research essay. The use of correct grammar and appropriate language conventions in both spoken and written French will be emphasized throughout the course. Prerequisite: French Immersion, grade 10, academic. A fee will be charged for the Workbook

6 FIF 4UF French Immersion, grade 12, university preparation, (offered 2009/10) Ce cours continue une etude intensive de la litterature et de la culture francaises du Moyen Age au present. On examinera des ouvrages varies et on ecrira plusieur redactions. On continuera a souligner l importance d un bon usage de la langue parlee aussi bien que la langue ecrite. Preealable: FIF 3UF or FIF 2DF based on year offered. A fee will be charged for the Workbook 46 FIF 4UF French Immersion, grade 12, university preparation, (offered 2009/10) This course provides for extensive study of French literature and culture from the Middle Ages to the present. Students will study novels, plays, poems, films, and non-fiction works produced in various historical periods, and will write a formal research paper. The use of correct grammar and appropriate language conventions in both spoken and written French will be emphasized throughout the course. Prerequisite: French Immersion, grade 11, university preparation, or French Immersion, grade 10, academic. A fee will be charged for the Workbook.
