Immigrants form an increasing part of the population of European countries, and skills training, especially in dynamic areas such as entrepreneurship was essential, if immigrants are to fulfil their potential as individuals and as contributors to economic growth and social stability. However, immigrants are less likely to take up training than other groups. Similarly, business training organizations are often poorly equipped to train immigrants. European Entrepreneurs (EUE) aims to redress this imbalance by effectively identifying and training immigrants as entrepreneurs, by providing tailoring learning support via a multi-lingual web-site to Immigrants who may be considering setting up their own business. EU Imminent was an interactive business start up guide for Immigrant Entrepreneurs. is an innovative and accessible web based training resource specificially designed for immigrant entrepreneurs looking to set up their own business. Description: The project was launched in October 2008 and had been in development for a total of two years, during which time the team devised and compiled an online training programme and exercises for potential entrepreneurs. Drawing on materials developed previously by previous EUfunded programmes (EMERGE and Entre-Pass), this project addressed the particular needs of migrants in getting a new business off the ground. It directly complemented face-to-face classroom training packages, providing additional support in compiling business plans, networking strategies and other skills. The project partnership drawe together organisations from the voluntary sector, social economy agencies and national enterprise institutions from the five EU project countries. Launched in October 2008, the project partners collectively completed a training needs analysis among migrant communities in the participating countries through focus groups and questionnaires. The data collected through needs analysis questionnaires in the partner countries, was the basis for which the site and training modules were formed. Needs varied depending on participating countries, but overall the main areas where a need for targeted support was indicated include accessing business finance, preparation of effective business plans, sales and marketing techniques for new businesses and business networking. EU-Imminent as a partnership offered expertise in both business and immigrant issues. Together the partnership offered a broad skills base with a multi-disciplinary team helping bring this innovative resource to life. The course was free of charge and available in four languages (English, German, Polsh and Romanian). It Comprised five modules together with a wealth of support materials such as videos, podcasts, web-links and networks which supported immigrants. There was no need to 2
