Le concept de cette chaîne? Le restaurant indien nouvelle génération, où le décor Bollywood a fait place à une décoration contemporaine aux références indiennes plus subtiles, une version moderne de la «curry house» traditionnelle. Following the success of their first restaurant in London, the owners of Bangalore Express once again called upon the English architects studio Outline for their second opening. The concept of this chain? The new generation Indian restaurant, where the Bollywood decor has given way to a modern decor with more subtle references to India, a modern version of the traditional curry house. 168 artravel

3 Le premier restaurant a donc ouvert à Waterloo Road, à, en février En s inspirant des trains couchettes, l agence Outline a imaginé des niveaux superposés, avec des tables en mezzanine auxquelles on accède à l aide d une échelle. En mars dernier, le second Bangalore Express a vu le jour dans le quartier d affaires londonien de La City. Tout en gardant une unité avec le premier, l agence d architectes lui a insufflé une identité propre, comme ces plafonds à caisson imaginés en référence aux nombreuses banques des alentours. L espace est divisé entre deux étages, avec des codes couleurs bois, deux teintes de gris et deux autres de rouge. The first restaurant opened at Waterloo Road in London, in February Inspired by sleeping car trains, the Outline Agency designed layers with mezzanine tables that one reaches via a ladder. Last March the second Bangalore Express opened in the business district of the City. While remaining similar to the first, the agency gave this restaurant its own identity, like the boxed ceilings designed to refer to the many surrounding banks. 4 restaurant Au premier niveau, le bar rétroéclairé avec son pan de mur rouge décoré de plusieurs timbales, offre un nouvel angle de vision de ce plat typique dans lequel les travailleurs indiens mangent leur repas. Cet objet du quotidien transformé en objet contemporain est mis en valeur par plusieurs rangées des désormais incontournables douilles en silicone noires avec ampoules surdimensionnées E27 designées par Mattias Stählbom pour Muuto. Sur les murs, des formes géométriques rouges, noires et grises, rappelant celles du premier restaurant avec des couleurs différentes. Les plafonds noirs sont contrastés par un éclairage pointu encastré qui souligne les volumes géométriques. On the first floor the backlit bar with its red wall decorated with several tumblers offers a new angle of vision on this typical plate in which the Indian workers eat their meals. This daily object transformed into modern art is displayed in several rows of black silicon dowels with oversized E27 bulbs designed by Mattias Stahlbom for Muuto. On the walls red, black, gray geometrical shapes recall those of the first restaurant but in different colors. The black ceilings are contrasted by inset spots that highlight the volumes. 170 artravel

5 Pour rejoindre le deuxième niveau, au sous-sol, il faut emprunter l escalier qui conduit près de l étroite cave à vins. Ici, on retrouve les lignes du rez-de-chaussée et un espace divisé entre une salle à manger avec des panneaux de bois créant des compartiments et une autre partie décloisonnée. Un décor qui prend le contre-pied des restaurants indiens traditionnels. To get to the next level, in the basement, take the stairs leading to the narrow wine cellar. Here one finds the ground floor lines and space divided into a dining room with wood panels creating compartments and a second part of open space.
