4 General conditions 2013 Any research organisation can participate, including larger companies, as well as service-providers. However, the funding levels are different: For SMEs: 75% of research costs (+ 100% management & training & eligible IP costs) For larger companies: 50% of research costs (+ 100% management & training & eligible IP costs) What is an SME? (for the EC: ) 1. less than 250 employees 2. annual turnover 50 million OR balance sheet total 43 million 3. must be autonomous* * check SME status:

5 Collaborative research across borders and other barriers between countries: At least 3 partners from the 27 EU Member States: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Rep., Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom. or the 13 Associated Countries: Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, FYROM, Iceland, Israel, Liechtenstein, Montenegro, Norway, Serbia, Switzerland, Turkey and the Faroe Islands. In addition, researchers from anywhere in the world can participate except for some restricted calls : e.g.: Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Egypt, India, Japan, Korea, Russia, South-Africa, USA, and in many cases, can be funded (ICPC and USA).

10 Projets INNOVATION-2 PME 50% 2 lignes ouvertes : Boosting the translation of FP projects' results into innovative applications for health : Drugs and vaccines for infections that have developed or are at the risk of developing significant anti-microbial resistance Calendriers resserrés? (deadline: 25/09/2012) Spécificité: 50% au minimum de la subvention doit revenir aux PMEs, qui doivent avoir un rôle scientifique prépondérant dans la proposition La coordination administrative n est pas un pré-requi Au cours de la 2 e étape, un «exploitation plan» doit être présenté incluant la stratégie de valorisation de la technologie développée Les résultats du projets doivent bénéficier directement aux PMEs du consortium Caractéristiques: Projet Collaboratif à 6M maximum (mais la CE attend aussi des projets plus petits). Plusieurs projets financés sur la ligne Appels définis très largement (quasiment bottom-up ) Minimum 3 partenaires, maximum 5. Uniquement EM/EA (contrôle, notamment pour les PMEs). Projets d une durée de 3 ans maximum. Impact noté 4 comme threshold

15 Key factors for success in applying for FP7 funding Competition is tough : only the VERY best projects get funded the proposal must address the topic and the work programme (not wishful thinking) the consortium must be excellent & competent for the tasks (select the right partners), the collaboration must not be cosmetic the proposal must address all 3 criteria, convince the evaluators (don t rely on reputation) respect basic rules (deadlines, nb participants, ceilings, length, ethics, % SME )

16 How to read a call? HEALTH : Innovative approaches to solid organ transplantation25. FP7- HEALTH-2012-INNOVATION-1. The aim of this topic is the practical exploitation of recent research findings to improve the outcome, increase efficiency or widen the scope of solid organ transplantation. Projects are required to include clinical work and the necessary regulatory work as appropriate. Full attention needs to be paid to safety and immunological aspects of the work. Research should be translational, and may include improvement of understanding of mode of action if needed. For projects on xenotransplantation, if the work is not yet ready for clinical application, proposals should include a reasoned plan indicating the main development and regulatory steps needed to move the technology to the clinic. Research should involve European industry, in particular the SME sector. Note: Limits on the EU financial contribution apply. These are implemented strictly as formal eligibility criteria. Funding scheme: Collaborative Project (small or medium-scale focussed research project) One or more proposals can be selected. Expected impact: Results should lead to improved treatment outcome for transplantation patients, better understanding of mode of action of treatments or potential treatments and be of use to the industrial, especially SME, sector. Additional eligibility criteria: The requested EU contribution per project shall not exceed EUR Projects will only be selected for funding on the condition that the estimated EU contribution going to SME(s) is 15% or more of the total estimated EU contribution for the project as a whole. This will be assessed at the end of the negotiation, before signature of the grant agreement. Proposals not fulfilling this criterion will not be funded.

20 IMI : Innovative Medicine Initiative 3 concepts d IMI : - une recherche non compétitive, qui implique pour l EFPIA la mutualisation des moyens à une étape très spécifique du développement dite précompétitive. - Des appels compétitifs pour être bénéficiaire de financements - Une collaboration ouverte au sein du consortium final, dans un environnement basé sur la confiance et le respect. Intérêt d IMI: pas uniquement des financement complémentaires mais faire une recherche basée sur le patient et la pharmaceutique accès à des platformes et methodologies d industriels.

26 Les règles de propriété intellectuelle Objectifs d IMI : un partenariat public privé (PPP) avec une recherche et des objectifs spécifiques,une participation large, et promotion de la création, la divulgation et exploitation de résultats: Rappel des règles de bases de «ownership» : - le «background» (tout ce qui est apporté au projet et qui doit être clairement identifié) reste à celui qui l apporte qu il soit breveté ou non - le «foreground» appartient à celui qui le génère. - Possibilité de mettre sous licence et de disposer de ses droits tant que le partage aux autres partenaires est respecté. Le transfert de propriété est possible tant que cela n affecte pas le projet. - la protection n est pas obligatoire mais le propriétaire est invité à lui-même identifier ce qui devrait être protégé ou pas. Droit d accès: le participant qui quitte un projet doit continuer à fournir son «background» pour l implémentation du projet.

Enabling older adults to sustain and continue managing daily life activities in their home. 2. Supporting informal carers to give assistance - Project total budget: 1-7 M - Maximum funding from the AAL Joint Programme: 3 M - Significant involvement of industry and other business partners, particularly SMEs are encouraged. 39 COST Actions Objective: To support European cooperation and interaction between European Researchers Coordination of research networks called Actions Eligibility: Network centered around nationally-funded research projects in fields that are of interest to at least five COST countries. Funding: p.y. for normally 4 years can be expected. COST doesn't fund research but cover the costs of networking (meetings, conferences, workshops, short-term scientific exchanges and dissemination activities).
