1 GRADE 6/6ÈME HUMANITIES IN ENGLISH MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAM PROGRAMME DES COLLEGES English Language Arts and Social Studies are combined into one integrated Humanities course in which history and cultural studies inform, enrich, and contextualize the study of literary texts. Students discover legends, myths, and folklore, beginning with the Greeks and Romans, which the French program expands upon later in the year. Students also examine the traditions and myths of Native American and African cultures. They continue the exploration of the stories and history of colonial and revolutionary America and Native Americans started in earlier grades. Further investigations include poetry and theater, drawing on students knowledge of ancient cultures acquired in their French courses. FRANCAIS On retrouve cinq composantes fondamentales et interdépendantes: la lecture, l expression écrite, l étude de la langue, l expression orale et l histoire des arts. Les activités en classe varient: elles peuvent être effectuées avec le professeur, seul ou en groupe. Des oeuvres à lire sont régulièrement proposées aux élèves, complétées par des lectures libres individuelles. L objectif principal en expression écrite se concentre sur la rédaction d un texte lisible et cohérent, organisé en paragraphes. L oral est mobilisé lors des interventions en classe, également à travers l élaboration d exposés traitant d un sujet précis, à raison d un par trimestre. HISTOIRE GEOGRAPHIE Le programme d histoire-géographie vise l acquisition d une culture humaniste par les élèves. La période couverte en Histoire s étend des Mondes anciens (Haute Antiquité) aux débuts du Moyen-Âge. Le programme de géographie explore la notion d habiter. Deux heures par mois, un sujet d enseignement moral et civique fait l objet d une discussion, d un débat, d un exercice de clarifi cation des valeurs ou d un projet collectif ou individuel. MATH IN ENGLISH Grade 6 English Math explores six critical areas: Algebraic reasoning Integers and operations with rational numbers Operations with fractions, decimals Multi-step equations Statistical thinking Proportional relationships and measurement The course is a balanced integration of procedural fl uency, conceptual understanding, and problem solving. The integration emphasizes developing students skilled in: carrying out procedures fl exibly, accurately, effi ciently, and appropriately; constructing and connecting mathematical concepts and rigorous reasoning evidenced by an ability to analyze and identify the most effective strategy to solve problems. Geometric concepts are studied in Sixieme French math.

2 MATHEMATIQUES EN FRANCAIS L enseignement des mathématiques au collège est principalement centré sur la géométrie (60%). Seront étudiées les notions de droites, demi-droites et segments, distances et médiatrices, cercle, angles particuliers et bissectrice, périmètres et aires, symétrie axiale, parallélépipède rectangle et volumes. Environ 20% de l enseignement est réservé à la représentation des données (tableaux et graphiques) et à la notion de proportionnalité (situations de proportionnalité, présentation sous forme de tableau, pourcentages). Le calcul, étudié en profondeur en anglais, sera abordé (20%) pour s assurer que les élèves sont capables de transférer les connaissances acquises en anglais et les utiliser dans la résolution de problèmes en français (nombres décimaux, fractions, division euclidienne et décimale). SCIENCE IN ENGLISH EINY s sixth grade science course is very much a hands-on course with laboratory experiments, investigations, and activities comprising much of the class time. All experiments are conducted within collaborative groups, inquiry-based, and student-centered. Science learning employs interactive classroom discussions and active participation in learning new scientific concepts and is integrated with literacy, mathematics, technology, creative arts, and history wherever possible. SVT Le programme de Sciences de la Vie et de la Terre est constitué de quatre parties. Il s inscrit dans une démarche naturaliste et permet aux élèves de mieux observer, connaître et comprendre le monde qui les entoure, leur environnement. Il a également pour but d initier les élèves à la démarche scientifique, sur laquelle sera basé l ensemble de l enseignement de SVT au collège et au lycée. Connaître son environnement. Peuplement des milieux. Origine de la matière des êtres vivants. Unité, parenté et diversité des êtres vivants. SPANISH Students are introduced to various linguistic topics in Spanish that focus on speaking, reading and writing introductory Spanish. In class, students receive assignments and assessments that help reinforce the topics being discussed. Students use role playing activities and oral presentations to demonstrate their own knowledge of concepts learned in the course. Students will be able to apply Spanish learned in class to real world situations, thus allowing students to become comfortable using the target language both in and outside of the classroom. MANDARIN Based on what they have learned in previous years, students further develop their oral language skills, as well as their written skills. Language functions and notions are systematically incorporated in all topics and settings, which prepare our students for continuing their study in Mandarin. Basic rules, which apply all the way through college level, on the writing of Chinese characters, grammar structures, and language patterns are emphasized. Students will be encouraged to recognize and memorize more frequently used characters. Students begin to use the computer to type Chinese characters.

3 GRADE 7/5ÈME ENGLISH MATH Grade 7 English Math extends understanding of algebraic concepts, integers, and operations with rational numbers, rate and proportional reasoning, and statistical analysis. Students investigate linear equations, graphs and functions, and the impact of slope in an equation. In grades 6 and 7, developing key practices in mathematics is emphasized and required, including perseverance, attention to precision, abstract and quantitative reasoning, constructing viable arguments, and using appropriate strategies. Math concepts studied in English, which focus on algebra, complement the geometrical concepts that are the focus in the French math course. MATHEMATIQUES EN FRANCAIS Le programme s inscrit dans la suite logique de celui de sixième: les notions déja abordées sont prolongées et approfondies. La géométrie (constructions géométriques, démonstrations, résolution de problèmes) représente environ 60% du programme. Seront étudiées les notions de triangles, symétrie centrale, angles particuliers, parallélogrammes particuliers, aires, prisme droit et cylindre de révolution. La proportionnalité (quatrième proportionnelle, pourcentage, échelles) et la représentation des données (effectifs, fréquences, classes, diagrammes) représentent 20% environ. Le calcul est abordé pour s assurer que les élèves sont capables d utiliser les connaissances acquises en anglais dans la résolution de problèmes rédigés en français selon le cadre du programme officiel (fractions, équations, expressions et nombres relatifs). SCIENCE IN ENGLISH The seventh grade science course is a hands-on course with laboratory experiments, investigations, and activities comprising much of the class time. All experiments are conducted within collaborative groups, inquiry-based, and student-centered. PHYSIQUE CHIMIE Le programme se partage en trois parties: Chimie: Etude de l eau Electricité: Etude de circuits électriques en série et en dérivation Optique: Les sources de lumière et la propagation de la lumière. Le système Soleil-Terre-Lune. Le cours est toujours introduit grâce à des activités documentaires ou expérimentales qui permettent aux élèves de s impliquer personnellement dans la construction et l apprentissage du cours. SVT En cinquième, les élèves commencent à étudier la biologie d une manière plus détaillée et approfondie en s intéressant au fonctionnement des organes des principaux systèmes du corps (respiration, digestion, circulation, excrétion). Ils découvrent également la géologie (science de la Terre) en s intéressant au rôle de l eau dans l évolution des paysages. MANDARIN Seventh grade Mandarin course will continue building upon skills learned before as well as developing the four language skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening. Students will become more comfortable in writing and reading using Chinese characters. More technologies will be incorporated in the class so as to help students further develop their Mandarin skills. More advanced grammar will be integrated and students will understand Mandarin parts of speech, and master expressions in the present, past, and future tenses, as well as usage of sentence particles, conjunctions. ENGLISH HUMANITIES The Humanities 7 curriculum continues to integrate Language Arts, Social Studies and Geography. Classes focus on building strong reading, writing, research and communication skills. Students practice both creative and technical writing. The Social Studies component of 7th grade Humanities focuses on the history, geography, cultural, economic, and political life in the United States from the American Revolution through the Civil War and the effects of modern society. The project will span the course of the year and focus on the movement of people around the world for personal, political, economic or social reasons. Chaque leçon est construite autour d un triple objectif: l acquisition de savoirs l acquisition de savoirs-faire l acquisition d un savoir être Deux heures par mois, un sujet d enseignement moral et civique fait l objet d une discussion, d un débat ou d un exercice de clarification des valeurs.

5 GRADE 8/4ÈME MATH IN ENGLISH In Grade 8 Math further extends understanding of algebraic concepts. Instruction focuses on three critical areas: (1) formulating and reasoning related to expressions and equations. Solving linear equations including special linear equations such as proportionality to determine the slope of a line; (2) introduction to the use of functions to describe quantitative relationships; and (3) understanding and application of the Pythagorean Theorem. MATHEMATIQUES EN FRANCAIS Le programme s inscrit dans la suite logique de celui de cinquième: les concepts déja abordées sont prolongés et approfondis. La géométrie est davantage centrée sur la démonstration et la résolution de problème. Elle représente environ 60% du programme. Seront étudiés les théorémes de Thalès et Pythagore, la notion de cosinus et de tangente, les pyramides et cônes de révolution. La proportionnalité (produit en croix, agrandissements et réductions) et le traitement des données (moyennes, pourcentages) représentent 20% environ. Le calcul est abordé pour s assurer que les élèves sont capables d utiliser les connaissances acquises en anglais(fractions et puissances, équations et inégalités, nombres relatifs). PHYSICAL & BIOLOGICAL SCIENCE IN ENGLISH This biological course introduces students to structure and function of DNA & genetics; cellular study, bacteria and immunology; etc. while they are introduced to atomic structure and the Borh s model of the atom; the Periodic Table of Elements and periodic trends, etc. PHYSIQUE CHIMIE EN FRANCAIS Le programme se partage en trois parties: Electricité: Lois du courant continu (Intensité, Tension, Résistance, Loi d Ohm) Chimie: Etude de l air (Propriétés, description moléculaire, combustions, transformations chimiques) Optique: lumière et couleur d un objet, les lentilles, l oeil. Le cours est toujours introduit grâce à des activités documentaires ou expérimentales qui permettent aux élèves de s impliquer personnellement dans la construction et l apprentissage du cours. SVT Le programme de SVT en quatrième est constitué de trois parties. Une part importante est accordée à la géologie: faire découvrir un peu mieux le fonctionnement du globe terrestre, en particulier les conséquences de l activité interne du globe sur les paysages. La majeure partie de la biologie s attache à expliquer la reproduction sexuée, à la fois la reproduction humaine et celle d autres animaux qui évoluent dans différents milieux de vie. Enfin la dernière partie concerne la communication au sein de l organisme, communication nerveuse et hormonale.

6 MANDARIN Eighth grade Mandarin class will continue building upon skills learned before as well as developing the four language skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening. Students will become more comfortable in writing and reading using Chinese characters. HUMANITIES IN ENGLISH The Humanities 8 curriculum continues to integrate Language Arts, Social Studies and Geography. Classes focus on building strong reading, writing, research and communication skills, with a strong emphasis on high school readiness. Students continue to write to express themselves creatively and for academic purposes. Using literature and writing, students explore various topics and themes from US History. The Social Studies component of 8th grade Humanities focuses on the history, geography, cultural, economic, and political life in the United States from the Reconstruction Era to Modern American History. Technology is regularly integrated into the course for word processing, research, presentations, note taking and final projects. Students will thematically explore topics such as: What are the causes and consequences of prejudice and injustice? How does technology change the way we live and work? What are the consequences when cultures interact? How do governments change? FRANÇAIS On retrouve cinq composantes fondamentales et interdépendantes: la lecture, l expression écrite, l étude de la langue, l expression orale et l histoire des arts. Les activités en classe varient: elles peuvent être effectuées avec le professeur, seul ou en groupe. Des oeuvres à lire sont régulièrement proposées aux élèves, complétées par des lectures libres individuelles. L objectif principal en expression écrite se concentre sur la rédaction d un texte lisible et cohérent, organisé en paragraphes. L oral est mobilisé lors des interventions en classe, également à travers l élaboration d exposés traitant d un sujet précis, à raison d un par trimestre. La période couverte en Histoire va du siècle des Lumières à l âge industriel. Le programme de géographie est centré sur l étude de la mondialisation. Chaque leçon est construite autour d un triple objectif: l acquisition de savoirs l acquisition de savoirs-faire l acquisition d un savoir être Une fiche d objectifs, rappelant les connaissances et capacités à maîtriser pour réussir les évaluations, est distribuée à chaque chapitre afin d aider l élève à se situer dans ses apprentissages et l encourager à s auto-évaluer. Deux heures par mois, un sujet d enseignement moral et civique fait l objet d une discussion, d un débat ou d un exercice de clarification des valeurs.
