1 TYPES OF LITERATURE French Performance Standard 29C.C Identify selected passages accordingly: Knowledge: Know the differences in types of literature. Comprehension: Understand written passages and complete questions. Communication: Identify selected passages as being examples of poetry, story, play or comics and answer comprehensive questions. Use skills and strategies to convey messages in the target language. Procedures 1. In order to understand literature and various media of target language societies (29C), students should experience sufficient learning opportunities to develop the following: Name the main characters, settings and events from selected examples of culturally authentic children s literature using audio/visual cues and determine the type of literature (e.g., poetry, story, play, legend, comics) of the target language example. 2. Provide each student with a copy of the task sheet. Have students review and discuss the assessment task and how the rubric will be used to evaluate their work. 3. Familiarize students with reading poems, stories, plays and comics. 4. Explain to students that they will read the selections and answer the multiple-choice questions that follow. 5. Distribute materials, allow students time to read the selections and answer the questions. 6. Evaluate each student s presentation using the Foreign Language Rubric and add the scores to determine the performance level: Knowledge: Understood the differences in types of literature. Comprehension: Understood written passages and completed questions. Communication: Used skills and strategies to convey messages in the target language.
