2 2 You are advised to spend 45 minutes answering the questions in this booklet. QUESTION ONE: Provence You are working as a travel agent and have been asked for information by several clients who are planning to visit Provence. They want to know what they can see and do in Avignon and the surrounding area. Read the material collected from the websites of several of the region s offices de tourisme (visitor centres) and answer the questions, in English, in the spaces provided on pages 3 and 5. The glossary and text have been printed again on page 4 so that you will not have to turn back to this page. Your answers must be based on the information you read. You will be rewarded for providing: all the information required and detailed answers. Avignon, avec son festival de théâtre qui a lieu au mois de juillet, s est établie en tant que ville d une importance moderne autant qu historique. Le Lubéron Pour les balades sportives ou en famille, Vélo Loisir du Lubéron vous propose des sorties d une demi-journée ou d une journée sur les routes peu fréquentées qui ont été choisies pour la beauté des sites et des villages. Ces sorties vous plairont certainement parce que vous pourrez ainsi échapper aux embouteillages et vous n aurez qu à pédaler. Vélo Loisir s occupera du reste. Le Pont du Gard Ce pont, une des constructions les plus merveilleuses de l époque romaine, mérite que l on fasse, pour le voir, un détour. C est un morceau de l aqueduc construit pour fournir de l eau à Nîmes; haut de quarante mètres, il est resté presque intact au bout de deux mille ans. Arles Les amateurs d art ne gaspilleront pas leurs heures libres et iront directement à Arles. Vincent van Gogh, peintre néerlandais, s y est installé en Dehors sous le soleil provençal sa santé s est vite améliorée et son style s est transformé. Il a peint sans cesse la nature, les travaux des champs et les vues d Arles plus de 300 œuvres en l espace de quinze mois, ce qui forme l un des plus éclatants chapitres de l histoire de l art. Visites individualisées Si vous préférez éviter des circuits trop «touristiques», ou si vous ne parlez pas le français assez couramment, un guide-interprète est à considérer. Vous aurez des visites adaptées à vos propres souhaits et goûts, et à votre rythme, organisées par quelqu un qui aime la Provence et saura vous la faire aimer aussi.
