3 1 Introduction L'IEMS - Institut d'économie et management de la santé est un institut interdisciplinaire fondé en 1998 par la Faculté des HEC et la Faculté de biologie et de médecine - FBM de l'université de Lausanne, avec le support actif du Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois - CHUV et de son Département universitaire de médecine et santé communautaires (DUMSC). Toutefois, 15 ans après sa création, se profilent de possibles adaptations structurelles, tant les visions de ses structures faîtières ont évolué en fonction des changements de gouvernance. L activité a plus que jamais été poursuivie, car quelle que soit l optique de restructuration choisie, les thématiques d économie et management de la santé restent prépondérantes. L IEMS est organisé en deux groupes de recherche: le groupe Health Care Management and Economics le groupe Population Health Metrics and Data Le groupe Health Care Management and Economics Le groupe Health Care Management and Economics procède à des travaux analytiques sur les institutions et les marchés liés à la santé en Suisse et à l'étranger. Des exemples de projets de recherche du groupe Health Care Management and Economics incluent l évaluation des managed care en Suisse, l analyse du financement par DRG sur le système hospitalier suisse, l évaluation économique des technologies d interventions médicales spécifiques ainsi que l'utilisation de concepts innovants de l économie comportementale pour améliorer l'adhésion au traitement chez les patients. Le groupe Health Care Management and Economics coordonne également le Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) en management de la santé ainsi que l Executive MBA in Healthcare Management. Le groupe Population Health Metrics and Data Le groupe Population Health Metrics and Data adopte une perspective démographique et explore l'interaction entre les facteurs socio-économiques et de santé dans la détermination du bien-être de la population et de sa santé. Ses recherches couvrent les grandes tendances en matière de santé des populations, tels que le vieillissement et l importance croissante des maladies chroniques en s'appuyant sur les données d enquêtes nationales et internationales telles que l'enquête européenne sur la santé, la retraite et le vieillissement des 50 ans et plus (SHARE), dont l'étude suisse est dirigée par l IEMS en collaboration avec la Fondation Suisse pour la Recherche en Sciences Sociales - FORS. En outre, le groupe Population Health Metrics and Data étudie les aspects méthodologiques de la collecte et de l'analyse de données de santé de la population, tels que l'utilisation de vignettes d'ancrage dans les comparaisons interpersonnelles. 2

It is funded via a SNF grant. The Effects of Subsidies in the Swiss Health Insurance Market. I have collected a dataset of approximately 300,000 observations describing individuals health insurance related decisions in Canton de Vaud. I have obtained a mandate from the SASH (Service des assurances sociales et de l'hébergement of Canton de Vaud) and the OVAM (Office vaudois de l'assurance-maladie) to study whether disadvantaged households are protected against the risks associated with falling ill thanks to the public subsidies program. 6

8 Overconfidence and Competition. This project entails both a laboratory experiment and theoretical analysis to study whether individuals become more overconfident if put in a competitive environment. I believe that this study can shed light on entrepreneurs behavior and hence can be very interesting for management scholars. Most of them were not interested in pursuing a career in academia, so in order to facilitate their career, I have created a connection with the World Health Organization in Geneva to give students an internship opportunity while working on their master dissertation. Four students, (Marpessa Arnoult; Romain Oguey; Laurent Brunner; Ileana Vilcu;) are enrolled in the internship and will begin in February I co-supervise two PhD students (one with Lorenz Goette and one with Jurgen Maurer), Justin Buffat (DEEP) and Kateryna Chepinoga (SGS and IEMS). Kateryna is in her first year and is taking classes, while Justin is his fourth year and is one of the best Ph.D. student in the Economics department. Justin is involved in the field experiment on organ donations. 20
