3 PALM SUNDAY OF THE PASSION OF THE LORD First Reading: Isaiah 50:4-7 In a tone of quiet sadness, Isaiah describes the buffets and insults given to the Suffering Servant. The passage ends on a note of hope. Second Reading: Philippians 2:6-11 In exultant tones, Paul tells the Philippians to rejoice because Christ became man, died on the cross, rose from the dead, and sits triumphantly at the right hand of the Father. Gospel: Matthew 26:14 27:66 This is the solemn narrative of the passion and death of our Lord Jesus Christ. Matthew recounts the treachery and betrayal of Judas and then describes the events of the Last Supper, culminating in the institution of the Eucharist. Jesus endures the Agony in the Garden; he is then brought before Caiaphas and Pilate and condemned to death. After His resurrection, the centurions shouted, Clearly this was the Son of God! Dear Parishioners, Long ago St. Augustin said: we are an Easter people, and our song is Alleluia. This is certainly so, for the heart and core of our faith is the Easter message. Easter is a time of rebirth and renewal. During the beautiful days of Holy Week there will be many opportunities for a living reconciliation with your God. Easter, the celebration of the resurrection, commemorates the victory of Christ over worldly evil including sin and death. Easter is the climax of the great mystery of our salvation. We pray that you will join as fully as you can in sharing with us the mysteries of the Holiest Week and so more clearly hear Him greet us as we shout the victory Hymn Christ has Risen from the dead. Please contact for more information. Thank You. EASTER FLOWERS AND MUSIC As Easter approaches quickly our thoughts come to our sanctuary decoration and music for Easter. I call upon each parishioner to be extra-generous as you have been in the past to help with the expenses for both Easter Flowers and extra Musicians for our masses on Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday. Donation for Easter Music can be included in your weekly envelopes offering. We kindly ask to consider making a generous Easter gift to your parish. Again thank you for your generosity. Easter flower envelopes are available in the back of the Church. Donations may be made in memory of a loved one. The envelopes will be kept in the sanctuary during the entire Easter Season. One of the seven spiritual works of mercy is to pray for the living and the dead. It is very important to pray for the intentions of both the living members of our family, as well as for the repose of the souls of our beloved family members by scheduling a mass intention for them throughout the year. Stop by the rectory to arrange for a mass to be celebrated for a loved one. CONFESSION DAY St. Joseph s Church will be hosting a Day for Confession on April 14, 2014 from 4:00pm-9:00pm. All Parishioners of St. Joseph s Church must be aware that Confessions will not be heard on Holy Saturday April 19, 2014 at our Parish.

4 DOMINGO DE RAMOS DE LA PASIÓN DEL SEÑOR Primera Lectura: Isaías 50:4-7 En un tono de calmada tristeza, Isaías describe los golpes e insultos dados al Siervo que Sufre. Este pasaje termina con un rayo de esperanza. Segunda Lectura: Filipenses 2:6-11 Con gran gozo Pablo les dice a los filipenses que se regocijen pues Cristo se convirtió en hombre, murió en la cruz, se levantó de entre los muertos y está triunfalmente sentado a la derecha del Padre. Evangelio: San Mateo 26:14 27:66 Esta es la solemne narrativa de la pasión y muerte de nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Mateo cuenta de la traición de Judas y luego describe los eventos de la Ultima Cena, culminando con la institución de la Eucaristía. Jesús soporta la agonía en el Jardín, luego es llevado frente a Caifás y Pilatos, y condenado a muerte. Luego de su resurrección, los centuriones gritaron: En verdad este era el Hijo de Dios! Queridos feligreses, Hace mucho tiempo San Agustín dijo "somos un pueblo Pascual y nuestra canción es el Aleluya." Esto es cierto ya que este es el corazón y en el centro de nuestra fe en el mensaje pascual. La Pascua es un tiempo de renacer y renovación. En los bellos días de la Semana Santa, habrá muchas oportunidades de reconciliación con Dios. La Pascua es la celebración de la resurrección y conmemora la victoria de Cristo sobre el pecado, la maldad mundana y la muerte. La Pascua es el momento culminante del gran misterio de nuestra salvación. Es nuestra oración que ustedes y sus seres queridos se unan con nosotros en esta Semana Santa y puedan compartir con nosotros los misterios de la Semana Santa y por lo tanto podamos escuchar más claramente el saludo de Nuestro Señor mientras gritamos el Himno de la victoria, Cristo ha resucitado de entre los muertos! Décoration Florale et Animation Musicale A l approche des fêtes de Pâques, nous portons une attention spéciale sur la décoration du sanctuaire et l animation musicale. Cette année, les dépenses pour les fleurs sont très élevées et nous avons besoin de plus de musiciens pour la célébration de la veillée pascale et celle du dimanche de Pâques. Pour ce faire, je demanderais à chaque paroissien d'être très généreux, comme par le passé, pour aider avec les dépenses. Les dons peuvent être faits à la mémoire d'un être cher. Nous vous demandons d'examiner la possibilité de faire de généreux cadeaux de Pâques à votre paroisse. Les enveloppes pour les fleurs sont disponibles à l'arrière de l'église ; elles seront dans le sanctuaire pendant toute la période de Pâques. Encore une fois merci de votre générosité. Jésus est au cœur de cette agitation. Il en est même le sujet, l objet, le centre d intérêt. Il n y a rien de plus étrange qu une foule. Un rien la fait bouger, hurler ou se taire. Elle peut acclamer, juger, condamner, ou rester d une indifférence effrayante. «Hosanna! [ ] Béni soit celui qui vient au nom du Seigneur!» Jésus entre dans -Jérusalem, assis sur un âne. -L Écriture - s accomplit. Jésus est attendu, reconnu comme le Messie. La foule qui, aujourd hui, l acclame aux portes de Jérusalem réclamera, demain, sa crucifixion et la libération de Barrabas, avant de conduire Jésus hors de la ville en direction du Golgotha. Tradition, dévotion ou superstition? À l occasion de la fête des Rameaux, des foules nombreuses s invitent et se bousculent sur les parvis de nos églises et jusqu au cœur de nos liturgies. Que cherchent-elles? Qu ont-elles compris? Hommes et femmes de nos villes et de nos villages, ils sont là en nombre, ce matin. -Comment offrir à ces foules de nos parvis davantage que ces quelques rameaux de buis que l on s arrache en hâte? Ne sont-elles pas une invitation à sortir de nos églises pour ouvrir le dialogue, risquer la rencontre? Comment leur permettre de croiser le regard de l homme-dieu qui, pour eux, pour nous, et pour l humanité tout entière, commence la lente ascension du Golgotha? Entrez, installez-vous. Écoutez! Nous sommes en train de relire l histoire de Jésus de Nazareth. Dieu a tant aimé son peuple qu il lui donne son Fils, son bien-aimé. Venez, écoutez donc ce qu il a fait pour nous! Intention de Messe L une des sept œuvres de miséricorde spirituelle est de prier pour les vivants et les morts. Il est très important de prier pour les membres vivants de votre famille ainsi que pour le repos des âmes de ceux qui vous aviez connus et aimés. Vous pouvez passer au presbytère pour programmer, tout au long de l année, les intentions de messe à célébrer pour vos chers.
