18 Interrogative adjectives Chapitre 7 - Grammaire 1 - notes To say which or what, there are four forms in French. All four forms are pronounced the same way. masculine singular masculine plural feminine singular feminine plural Quel pull? Quels pulls? Quelle jupe? Quelles jupes? You've been using Qu'est-ce que to say what. However it is not interchangeable with forms of Quel. j'ai Use a form of QUEL when what is followed directly by a noun. tu as Quelle cravate est-ce que tu vas acheter? il a Quelle heure est-il? elle a Quel temps fait-il? on a Use a form of QUEL when what is followed directly by the word est or sont. Quelles sont tes cravates préférées? Quel est le problème? Use QU'EST-CE QUE to say what in most other cases. Qu'est-ce que tu vas acheter? A form of QUEL can also be used as an exclamation.
