1 BACK TO THE PAST One way of telling about the past is to use the PERFECT TENSE or PASSÉ COMPOSÉ. In English, we conjugate the perfect tense like this: I have eaten You have eaten He/She has eaten We have eaten You have eaten They have eaten This tense is made up from: a helping verb and a past participle. In French, the past tense is just like English. It is made up from a helping verb and a past participle. We will start by looking at regular -ER verbs. I have helping verb eaten past participle These make up most of the verbs used in French. The helping verb is "avoir" 1. We have been to France. 2. She has watched the match on TV. 3. You have sailed across the bay. 4. They have not done their homework. 5. He has not gone to the shops yet. 6. I have never eaten snails. 7. You have always got a miserable look. 1.
