ISH stands for future-oriented subjects, such as resource conservation and the use of renewable energies, as well as demographic change and the associated changing conditions in the fields of water and energy, says Wolfgang Marzin, President and CEO of Messe Frankfurt. At the same time, ISH is the leading trade fair for energyefficient heating technologies combined with renewable energies and environmentally-friendly air-conditioning, cooling and ventilation technology as well as building automation and controls. eu.bac will be present at ISH in hall 10.3, booth A20 on a common stand with VDMA. eu.bac System eu.bac s tool to evaluate the efficiency of building automation systems based on EN will be presented at the Gebäude Forum* in Hall ISH presents technologies and ways in which Europe can decrease its dependence on external energy supplies through the use of energy-efficient products and solutions combined with renewable energies. Thus, the great horizontal and vertical range of products on show at ISH covers all aspects of future-oriented building solutions. The exhibitors present a complete range of market-ready products and technology, which is unrivalled in terms of variety. ISH 2015 will be held in Frankfurt am Main from 10 to 14 March. Messe Frankfurt expects around 2,400 exhibitors from all around the world who will present their latest products and innovations on some 260,000 square metres of exhibition space. ISH Energy The ISH Energy section with building-services and energy, technology, renewable energies and cooling, air-conditioning and ventilation as well as building automation and controls technology is located in the western part of the Exhibition Centre, in Halls 8, 9, 10, 11 and the Galleria. There, visitors will find the entire range of innovative building-system technology revolving around the top motto, Energy-efficiency plus, in other words, subjects such as the new energy paradigm in the heating market, the building of the future, holistic sustainability and different technological trends. 5 About eu.bac eu.bac System Promoting Building Energy Efficiency with BACS Improved energy efficiency in buildings is a high priority among building decision makers, as well as building owners and operators. Presently there is one European standard that assists building owners to ensure that a new building being built, or an existing building being refurbished, will have the best available BACS technology to save energy. This standard is called the EN 15232: Energy performance of buildings Impact of Building Automation, Controls and Building Management standard. However, there are no standards available which address the difficult challenges faced by building owners that ensure their buildings continue to perform as well as, if not better, than when they were first commissioned. eu.bac, the European Building Automation and Controls Association, has developed a plan for promoting improved energy efficiency of Building Automation and Control Systems (BACS) with the help of existing EN Standards and the new eu.bac Certification Scheme. The eu.bac Certification Scheme (eu.bac System) was developed to advance energy performance of BACS in buildings. It specifically provides certification of energy performance of BACS in buildings, at the first delivery and throughout its lifetime. Certification procedure for building automation systems The procedure for eu.bac certification is designed as a three step process: 1. The first step is a self-declaration by the provider of BACS that a particular system is capable of delivering the functionality described in the Technical Recommendations 2. The second step is the certification of a BACS installation in a specific building. This is done by an authorized inspector who makes a site visit. 3. The third step is the periodic inspection of the BACS installation. This is to verify that the certified functionality is still available and working properly. The periodic inspection helps counteract the fact that systems have a tendency to deteriorate in terms of energy performance over time, unless they are maintained properly. This is an inherent issue because of the analog and mechanical nature of the installed systems. BACS inspection and classification According to the methodology of EN a checklist allows an auditor to inspect all performance relevant controls components and its weight in regard to space size, usage profile and effective implemented functionality. Building type (determines e.g. importance of individual functions against each other) and other site relevant data is asked to be filled in. The workflow is oriented according to the energy flow in the building. All control components are adding up an overall BACS rating (according to their relevance (e.g. space, usage). The overall result is a normalized point value between 0 and 100. As an approximate evaluation the calculation of an expected energy reduction (after improvement) is an estimation based on the efficiency factors out of EN in combination with a weighted calculation model. The conclusion is that an improvement of 10 points will result in up to 5 % improvement of energy use. The finally achievable reduction in the real environment may be different, for instance because of a different user profile, but this calculated value allows at least a rough estimation of the impact of the intended improvements. Key performance indicators Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are calculated values from operational data of a BACS delivering information about the energy efficiency of a specific part of a BACS component / function. A KPI is being calculated either on an event base or at least every 15 Minutes compares data with set points and reference values while being stored once a day (one value per day). An evaluation of these values over a certain observation period is used to determine the performance of the observed BACS component/ building part. Opportunities The eu.bac certification scheme serves the purpose of helping building owners to put the right requirements for energy saving measures to be delivered in their installations of BACS. It helps them (or their consultant) to specify best practice energy saving measures to an extent that they are willing to pay for i.e. to set expectations at the right level. With a eu.bac System certification it is achieved that the BACS performs efficient throughout the entire lifecycle. New buildings / systems: eu.bac System supports all major phases in the definition, tender, build up solution, commissioning and especially hand over to the operations. Since the major functionalities are clearly defined and KPI s are gathered right after the installation, the process of the commissioning is highly supported by the method and the existing KPI values. Existing buildings / systems: When the building has been built it also helps the building owner and user to verify that the specified functionality of the BACS actually has been implemented in his building, and that it works, not only initially but over the life-time of the system. Ultimately, this allows the building owner to save money on energy and operational expenses and makes the building more productive, valuable and marketable. Additionally it provides visual evidence of the energy performance quality of the building control system in his building. Summary The eu.bac System Certification Scheme promotes improved energy efficiency of Building Automation and Control Systems, because it provides guidelines to energy efficient functionality, provides a mechanism to check that a BACS installation actually includes the expected functionality, and that maybe most important of all with periodic inspections the functionality provides equal or better performance over time. 6 À propos d eu.bac Le «système eu.bac» favorise l efficacité énergétique de bâtiments dotés d un système d immotique Une meilleure efficacité énergétique dans les bâtiments est tout autant une priorité pour les décideurs dans le secteur de l immobilier que pour les propriétaires et les gérants. Il existe actuellement une norme européenne aidant les propriétaires à s assurer qu un nouveau bâtiment ou un bâtiment existant assaini dispose des meilleurs systèmes d immotique et de mesure/commande/régulation (MCR) sur le marché (en anglais, Building Automation and Control Systems BACS) pour les économies d énergie : la norme EN pour l efficacité énergétique des bâtiments impact des BACS et gestion des bâtiments. Il n existe toutefois aucune norme pour les enjeux difficiles auxquels sont confrontés les propriétaires afin d assurer la performance durable de leurs bâtiments après la première mise en service, voire son amélioration au fil du temps. eu.bac, l association européenne des fabricants d immotique, a développé en fonction de cette norme une méthode d audit pour l évaluation et l amélioration de l efficacité énergétique de BACS. La méthode d audit eu.bac (système eu.bac) a pour objectif d améliorer l efficacité énergétique des BACS en les évaluant lors de leur première mise en service ainsi que pendant toute leur durée de vie. Processus d audit pour les systèmes d immotique et MCR (BACS) Le processus d audit du système eu.bac comprend trois étapes : 1. La première étape est une déclaration de la part du fournisseur de BACS stipulant qu un système particulier est capable de fournir la fonctionnalité décrite dans les recommandations techniques. 2. La deuxième étape est la vérification (audit) d une installation BACS dans un bâtiment donné. Cet audit est réalisé par un inspecteur agréé qui se rend sur place. 3. La troisième étape est l inspection périodique de l installation BACS. Celle-ci permet de s assurer que la fonctionnalité certifiée est encore disponible et qu elle marche correctement. 10 Insight L inspection périodique aide à contrer la tendance qu ont les systèmes à se détériorer avec le temps en matière d efficacité énergétique lorsqu ils n ont pas fait l objet d une maintenance conforme. Cela est un problème inhérent en raison de la nature analogique et mécanique des systèmes installés. Audit et classification des BACS Conformément à la méthodologie de la norme EN 15232, l auditeur se réfère à une check-list pour inspecter tous les éléments MCR pour la performance et leur impact sur l espace, le profil d utilisateur et la mise en place effective de la fonctionnalité. Le type de bâtiment (détermine par ex. l importance de fonctions individuelles entre elles) et d autres données concernant le site doivent également être renseignées. La procédure s oriente sur le flux d énergie dans le bâtiment. Tous les éléments MCR s additionnent pour obtenir un classement général des BACS (en fonction de leur importance, par ex. espace, utilisation). En tant qu évaluation approximative, le calcul de la réduction d énergie attendue (après amélioration) est une estimation basée sur les facteurs d efficacité tirés de la norme EN en combinaison avec un modèle de calcul pondéré. La réduction qu il est réellement possible d atteindre peut diverger, par exemple en raison d un profil d utilisateur différent, mais la valeur calculée permet tout du moins d obtenir une estimation approximative de l impact des améliorations prévues. Indicateurs clés de performance Les indicateurs clés de performance (ICP) sont des valeurs calculées à partir de données opérationnelles d un BACS fournissant des informations sur l efficacité énergétique d une partie spécifique d un élément/d une fonction d un BACS. Un ICP est calculé soit ponctuellement, soit toutes les 15 minutes, en comparant des données avec des valeurs de consigne et de référence tandis qu elles sont stockées une fois par jour (une valeur par jour). L évaluation de ces valeurs pendant une période d observation donnée est exploitée pour déterminer la performance des éléménts/pièces du BACS observé. Possibilités La méthode d audit du système eu.bac a pour objectif d aider les propriétaires de bâtiment à mettre en œuvre les exigences requises pour les mesures d économie d énergie à respecter dans leurs installations de BACS. Cela leur permet (ou à leur consultant) de spécifier des mesures d économie d énergie éprouvées en fonction de ce qu ils sont prêts à payer c est-à-dire de définir un niveau correct d attentes. L audit du système eu.bac permet le fonctionnement efficace d un BACS pendant toute sa durée de vie. Nouveaux bâtiments/systèmes : Le système eu.bac accompagne toutes les phases importantes dans la définition, l appel d offres, le développement de solution, la mise en service et avant tout l exploitation d un bâtiment. Les fonctionnalités majeures étant clairement définies et les ICP collectés directement à la suite de l installation, le processus de mise en service est fortement soutenu par la méthode et les valeurs ICP existantes. Revolutionary Room Automation Bâtiments/systèmes existants : Lorsque le bâtiment est déjà construit, le système eu.bac aide également le propriétaire et l utilisateur à vérifier l implémentation effective de la fonctionnalité donnée du BACS et son bon fonctionnement dans son bâtiment, pas seulement au début mais durant toute la durée de vie du système. En fin de compte, cela permet au propriétaire de faire des économies sur les frais d énergie et d exploitation, ce qui augmente la productivité, la valeur et le potentiel de vente du bâtiment. Le système eu.bac permet en outre de fournir une preuve visuelle de la qualité d efficacité énergétique du BACS dans son bâtiment. Its owners thus obtained an independent assessment of the possibilities and capabilities of their building automation. With new installations the audit gives the assurance that all functions have been correctly installed and put into service. In the case of existing systems, ways of optimizing them are suggested and places where investments would have the greatest effect. The eu.bac system audit assesses the intelligence of the building automation and its use in a building in relation to energy efficiency. This information is given transparently and system-independently on the basis of European standard EN The method is the first systematic approach to testing and benchmarking the performance of a building automation system in relation to energy efficiency and performance and supports professionals throughout the building s life in planning, tenders, commissioning and in operation. Around 70 % of the rated buildings were office buildings but the method has also been applied to hospitals, hotels, residential buildings and schools. The eu.ac system audit is now used in seven European countries (A, F, D, I, S, CH, UK). More than 40 trained and accredited auditors are available. Building automation brings together all of the various technical services in a building and optimizes their interactions for energy-efficient operation. Intelligent building automation is the interface between building management, technical systems and the users of buildings. 8 Market outlook, business and politics Andrei Litiu New Face of eu.bac in Brussels Since January 15, 2015 Andrei Litiu MSc Eng is representing the interests of eu.bac members in Brussels. After graduating in HVAC engineering and accumulating practical experience in the design of technical building services and building operation in his homeland Romania, Andrei Litiu relocated to Brussels. Here, he gained experience in association work, initially for the Federation of European Heating, Ventilation and Air-conditioning Associations (REHVA). He intends to build on this foundation and use the positive practical experience gathered from working with technical building facilities and in particular with automation and control products and systems, to open politician s eyes and ears for this key industry. They respond with a time delay to exterior heat gains and to night-time temperature reductions. This can lead to increased energy consumption and impair comfort. Thermozyklus, located in Gauting near Munich, recognized this aspect early on and developed an autoadaptive individual room control system especially for underfloor heating installations, which has recently been awarded AA product certification by the European Building Automation and Controls Association (eu.bac). This makes Thermozyklus the first manufacturer in Europe offering an underfloor heating controller with a control quality of CA = 0.5 K. The CA value (control accuracy) indicates the temperature accuracy and speed at which a control system can comply with the setpoint temperature or react to changes in it. 17 Trends DCV System Solution: Only as much as necessary not as much as possible The DCV technology (Demand Controlled Ventilation) measures the conditions in a room and calculates the amount of energy actually required. It is applied to regulate the fans according to the demand. Devices used are sensors and control devices for CO 2, VOC, temperature and so on. The required air volume is supplied to the room by precise volumetric flow controllers a technology known as variable air volume (VAV). Performance adjustment of the fans via the real ventilation system s demand Efficient fan control is a vital part of a DCV system. Next to variable speed drive-controlled fans, EC fans are increasingly being implemented. To adapt the fan power made available to the ventilation system, the DCV system must gauge the ventilation system s requirements and set a suitable setpoint. In a pressure feedback Fan Optimiser system only as much pressure as required is produced to transport the current volume through the air duct system. The goal is to operate the system with the least pressure loss. The Fan Optimiser function permanently monitors the damper positions of each VAV box. If the dampers eliminate the surplus of supply pressure, this pressure will be lowered in contrast to the pressure controlled systems where the supply pressure corresponds to the full load operation. Thus not as much as possible. Either control function can be selected in order to compare the two strategies under identical operating conditions. The measured current difference on the chosen day was an impressive saving of 64 %. Over the course of a year the savings would probably lie between 20 % and 50 %, depending on the system and the part-load conditions. Cette technologie permet de réguler les ventilateurs en fonction des besoins spécifiques à l aide de capteurs et d appareils de contrôle de CO 2, de COV, de la température, etc. Le débit d air est régulé au moyen d appareils compacts VAV (air à débit variable) de précision permettant de distribuer l air réellement requis dans les locaux. Puissance des ventilateurs adaptée aux besoins réels de l installation La régulation efficiente des ventilateurs fait partie intégrante de chaque installation DCV. Outre l utilisation de ventilateurs commandés par convertisseur de fréquence, les ventilateurs à commande électrique se font plus courants. Afin d adapter la puissance des ventilateurs, il faut pouvoir capter le besoin réel et déterminer la valeur de consigne correspondante. Dans une installation de débit d air à retour de pression, la pression produite est limitée au débit requis réel pour le transport à travers le réseau de canaux. Le but est de faire fonctionner l installation avec le moins de perte de pression possible. L optimiseur de ventilateur contrôle en permanence la position des clapets de chaque boîtier VAV. Si les clapets suppriment l excès de pression d alimentation, celleci est diminuée contrairement au système régulé par pression dont la pression d alimentation correspond au mode pleine charge. Donc juste ce qu il faut. Conception d un optimiseur de ventilateur à retour de pression a) Régulateur DDC (commande numérique directe) : appareil maître à bus et application d optimiseur de ventilateur programmée en fonction du système b) Matériel requis : optimiseur de ventilateur préconfiguré et prêt à l emploi (par ex. COU24-A-MP).
