Ici, avec malice, nous lui avons demandé de faire réellement le grand écart entre les siècles. Si «le mix est un must» pour cette architecte d intérieur, mondialement connue et reconnue, rarement il s est agi pour elle d associer des œuvres éloignées de plus de 40 ans d âge. C est avec une grande générosité, sensibilité et talent, qu India a bien voulu se lancer dans la partie. Le jeu et le pari sont gagnés. Merci India This season, we are pleased to welcome India Mahdavi to present our new edition of our Classic Interior sale. Pretty mischievously, weactually asked her to do the splits between centuries. If «the mix is a must» for this internationally renowned interior designer, she has rarely come to associate works of art distant from over 40 years. It is with great generosity, sensitivity and talent, that India kindly launched the challenge. The game and the bet are won. Thank you, India. Née à Téhéran d une mère égyptienne et d un père iranien, une enfance partagée entre le Massachussetts, New York, Heidelberg, Vence et Paris, India Mahdavi est, à l image de son style, polyglotte et polychrome. Diplômée en architecture (DPLG) et design industriel, graphisme et mobilier, elle débute auprès du décorateur Christian Liaigre dont elle devient la directrice artistique. Elle ouvre son studio de création en 1999, rue Las Cases à Paris. Ses premiers chantiers sont à Londres, New York, Miami, Hongkong, Las Vegas, Milan, Sydney, Mexico. En 2003, elle lance sa première collection de mobilier et inaugure son showroom. En 2004, elle obtient le prix de Designer de l année scènes d intérieurs / Maison et Objets. Sa reconnaissance internationale l amène à travailler pour Patrick Seguin, Alber Elbaz, Maja Hoffmann ou Thierry Costes. Sa signature devient une référence et elle signe des hôtels et restaurants de renom. On lui doit notamment le Condesa DF à Mexico, l hôtel on Rivington à New York, le Monte-Carlo Beach à Monaco, le Coburg bar et le restaurant d Hélène Darroze au Connaught à Londres, des suites au Claridge s à Londres, l hôtel Thoumieux à Paris, l hôtel du Cloître à Arles, le Café Français Place de la Bastille - en collaboration avec M/M (Paris) -, l hôtel L Apogée Courchevel en association avec Joseph Dirand et plus récemment la rénovation du restaurant «The Gallery at sketch» avec les dessins de l artiste britannique David Shrigley. De l architecture d intérieur au design en passant par la scénographie, ses projets révèlent la singularité des lieux. Nourrie d une culture nomade, aimant les contrastes d échelles, de couleurs et de matières, India Mahdavi imprime à ses projets un style unique et glamour. «Le lieu est pour moi le point de départ de toute histoire, de tout projet» dit-elle et «si chaque histoire est différente, chacun de mes projets est unique, chacun est une première fois.» Nommée par le Architectural Digest sur la 2014 AD100 List qui reconnaît les 100 meilleurs talents internationaux de l architecture et du design, India Mahdavi a également reçu en 2014 un prix spécial du AD Espagne, et travaille actuellement sur des projets résidentiels et publics à travers le monde. En février 2015, India Mahdavi a été nommée pour trois ans membre du Conseil artistique, scientifique et culturel de la Cité de la céramique (Sèvres et Limoges) sous la présidence de Jean-Hubert Martin. India Mahdavi est l auteur de «Home» aux éditions Flammarion (2012).

2 Architect and designer, India Mahdavi is based in Paris. Born to Anglo-Persian parents, India Mahdavi spent her childhood between Massachussetts, New York City, Heidelberg, Vence in the South of France and Paris. Her style suits her character: polyglot and polychrome. She graduated in architecture (DPLG - Paris), industrial design (Copper Union, NYC), graphic design (School of Visual Arts, NYC) and furniture design (Parson s NYC), before becoming Christian Liaigre s artistic director for 7 years. Her studio, created in 1999, is known for the diversity of its international projects which explore the fields of architecture and scenography, interior, furniture and object design. Her signature has become a reference for renowned hotels and restaurants such as Condesa DF in Mexico, on Rivington in New York, Monte Carlo Beach in Monaco, the Coburg bar and Hélène Darroze s restaurant at the Connaught in London, suites at the Claridge s in London, Hôtel Thoumieux in Paris, Hôtel du Cloître in Arles, Café Français in Paris (Place de la Bastille) in collaboration with M/M (Paris), L Apogée Courchevel co-signed with Joseph Dirand and restaurant The Gallery at sketch in London. The interiors she conceives are elegant, fluid, and in relation to the essence of their location. She says, The location and space are the starting point of all of my projects and each project is like an open question, for which there is a unique answer. Each project tells that inner story. Her first showroom at 3 rue Las Cases which opened in 2003, focuses on a high end collection of furniture, produced exclusively in France. Designed for her interior design projects, these pieces now constitute a unique body of work which share the same DNA: a sophisticated balance between strong graphics and a glamorous signature. 19 rue Las Cases, India Mahdavi s second showroom, opened in December 2011, focuses on small objects, a radical change of scale. These new pieces, which India also designs and uses for her interior design projects, are now displayed in this resh and creative hide-away. The petits objets boutique is a free spirited and lighthearted playground that echoes and complements the furniture showroom. India Mahdavi has become an exclusive brand, offering a complete philosophy, based on a special vocabulary: high end, joyful, nomadic, chic, elegant, art de vivre, a certain way of life. She was rewarded Designer of the Year by famous fair Scènes d intérieur / Maison et Objet. Recently named to Architectural Digest s 2014 AD100 list, which honors the world s top talents in architecture and design,and granted a special award for international creators by AD Spain s AD Award 2014, India Mahdavi is currently working on residential and public projects throughout the world. Also, and since February 2015, India has been appointed for three years as a board member of the artistic, scientific and cultural Cité de la Céramique Council (Sèvres and Limoges), under the chairmanship of Jean-Hubert Martin. India Mahdavi is the author of Home Chic, a guidebook to interior style (Flammarion 2012).

Précieux secrets, ils deviennent conseils avisés et pratiques dans son ouvrage Home (Flammarion 2012), comme si l architecture d intérieur était un jeu d enfants. India Mahdavi wittily reveals her secrets and gives us some of her precious pieces of advice in her book Home (Flammarion 2012) as if interior design was easy as a pie. NOMADISME ET MAGIE NOMADISM AND MAGIC Sa culture nomade, les voyages et sa curiosité infinie nourrissent ses inspirations. Son style unique puise sa richesse et son énergie dans les contradictions et les confrontations qui en découlent. Ses réalisations se transforment alors en un univers magique et mystérieux. Her nomadic culture, travels and infinite curiosity are a source of inspiration. Her unique style draws its sumptuousness and power in the contradictions and the resulting confrontations. Her interiors are then metamorphosed into a magical and mysterious universe. LE GOÛT ET LES COULEURS TASTE AND COLORS India s amuse des contrastes et des décalages, remède à l ennui et gage d identité. «Le mix est un must pour personnaliser son style, tout est affaire de décalage, d harmonie et d équilibre». Le mélange des couleurs oui mais toujours avec un zeste de noir et blanc. India enjoys contrasts and unsettling differences, remedy to boredom and an identity pledge. «The mix is a must to customize one s style, everything is a matter of difference, harmony and balance.» Never mix colors without a black and white touch. LA PERSPECTIVE OU LE JEU DU REGARD THE PERSPECTIVE AND THE AMUSED EYE WANDERING «Le regard ne s arrête pas au premier détail, il voyage, souvent porté par un deuxième, un troisième plan. Aussi est-il primordial de construire un espace en multipliant les perspectives pour que, en découvrant un salon, un couloir ou une salle de bains, l œil soit immédiatement séduit. Le point d accroche peut être un fauteuil, un tableau, une applique, une lampe sculpturale, une couleur au mur, selon votre envie.» The eye doesn t focus, it travels, often carried by a second, and a third background. Thus it is fundamental to conceive a space with multiple perspectives to immediately seduce the eye when entering into a living room, a hallway or a bathroom. The eye-catcher can be an armchair, a painting, a wall-light, a sculptural lamp, or even a color on the wall, as you wish. LA BEAUTÉ DU LAID OU L ART DE DÉTOURNER LE REGARD THE BEAUTY IN THE BEAST, OR HOW TO TURN THE EYES AWAY India se joue des contraintes. Chaque défaut devient une qualité par des choix et des tours de passe passe qui lui sont propres. India trumps the constraints and manages to transform each imperfection into an advantage, throughout choices and tricks of hers.

5 LES COUPS DE CŒUR D INDIA MAHDAVI 4 Tout ce que j adore en ce moment, comme une fausse peau de bête, plein d humeur et de personnalité. 8 Je collectionne la vaisselle et j affectionne tout particulièrement celle de Limoges. Cet ensemble d assiettes est une commande privée et donc unique. Chaque pièce est différente et forme un tout. Sa modernité me plaît. 180 Le paravent est une pièce que j utilise très souvent. C est à la fois un décor et cela apporte une verticalité dont on a souvent besoin. Celui-ci, du Japon, donne l impression des histoires chaque jour renouvelée. 195 Pour l élégance intemporelle de ce cabinet flamand haut perché. 197 J ai toujours aimé les Christ. Celui-ci, d une taille monumentale, pourrait être une œuvre contemporaine, le Christ décapité. 299 Encore un buste, celui-ci pour la profondeur du noir

This service is a special order and therefore is unique. Each piece is different and part of a whole. I like its modernity. 180 I very often put a screen in my interiors. They make the scene and bring some verticality where needed. Ce sont de vraies sculptures - toujours très faciles à placer, que ce soit dans un appartement parisien ou au bord de la mer. These stools from Ghana should be acquired as a pair. Cane is full part of may designs Bien qu abîmé, le tissu vichy est très actuel, et le modèle du fauteuil très élégant. Despite its tiredness the fabric is very stylish and the piece utterly sophisticated Le format est intéressant. The small size is interesting and amusing. 332 L idée de restituer la nature avec le même matériau est intéressant. Cette petite table est tout à fait charmante. The idea to use wood to recreate Nature strikes me. This little occasional table is lovely
