3 Introduction 2012 Global Impact Report 19 Days of activism 1-19 Nov. and World Day for Prevention Child Abuse 19 Nov. 3

4 Message from the WWSF Executive Director - Elly Pradervand & Global campaign coordinator 19 Days of Activism for prevention of Abuse and Violence Against Children and Youth 1-19 November Internationally, the 19 Days of Activism campaign was well received and implemented by many coalition member organizations around the world. Our annual Call to Action and Prevention Kit, together with the WWSF Guide for prevention of child abuse, continue to serve as empowerment tools for organizations and grassroots groups concerned with the increase of violence and eager to participate in the promotion of and education for better prevention measures to end all forms abuse and violence Thematic Focus The Campaign proposed 19 themes for action with a focus on the main theme Children involved in armed conflict. 178 partner organizations in 77 countries registered via our new online website procedure to help share their planned activities on a Google map for all to consult and join. Due to this new registration system some of our regular partner organizations could unfortunately not join the campaign and we hope that this will improve in the future. Types of activities Many categories of initiatives were organized, which varied from education, media and social media, advocacy, lobbying, sensitization workshops, training, theater (arts, poetry, dance, song, etc.), conferences/seminars, marches and sports events, to name some of them. Prize for innovative prevention activities WWSF continued to award its annual Prize to five coalition partners, presented on Page 14. Acknowledgements WWSF is grateful for the financial resources received from the Principality of Liechtenstein - Foreign Affairs Office, the Commune Plan-les-Ouates of Geneva, and from WWSF members. WWSF also thanks all registered coalition member organizations, friends, Board directors, staff, consultants, webmasters, interns and volunteers, who contributed to the work of its Children-Youth section and made the 19 Days of Activism campaign a success. A special acknowledgement goes to our campaign co-coordinator, Fanny Toutou-Mpondo, who served the coalition organizations with regular information and updates, as well as to Anabel Rodriguez for translating our Prevention Kit into Spanish and for handling all Spanish correspondence. A million thanks for their commitment and service to the cause Global Impact Report 19 Days of activism 1-19 Nov. and World Day for Prevention Child Abuse 19 Nov. 4

WWSF PRIZE (US$ 1000) Rania Family & Child Center Production, Jordan The Queen Rania Family & Child Center (QRFCC) of the Jordan River Foundation joined the 2011 campaign 19 Days of activism for prevention of abuse and violence against children and youth through the art of theatre. QRFCC partnered with some of the most influential stakeholders, rights bearers and children in using theatre as an advocacy tool and through this process, the participants questioned social norms and challenged their peers. Along with youth leaders and volunteers, QRFCC created the theatre play entitled On the Edge of Silence, which focused on the topic of corporal punishment and mainly on cases of child abuse in the home, schools, and within the Ministry of Social Development Care Centers. The play was based on child abuse cases that have been reported to the Family Protection Department and released to the public through media outlets during 2010 and The play also included short clips and visual testimonials from QRFCC s youth expressing their thoughts on statistics of child abuse, as well as firsthand accounts of children who have been victims of corporal punishment. In addition to creating the play, youth leaders and volunteers also took part in the production and performance. Preparations for the play started in August and involved the help of a professional choreographer and musician, as well as a professional scenographer and set designer. A total of Global Impact Report 19 Days of activism 1-19 Nov. and World Day for Prevention Child Abuse 19 Nov. 15

16 schools were visited and mobilized, and a total of 379 students auditioned for the play, therefore allowing the play s awareness and advocacy messages to be spread among this large group. Five performances took place during November and December on four different stages, reaching a large audience. The performances took place in the capital Amman, and in the southern city of Aqaba. In December 2011, the play was presented at the First Scientific Conference of the Jordanian Professionals Network for Child Safety. The conference was organized by the Jordan River Child Safety Program and was aimed at evaluating the current situation of violence against women and children in Jordan. The Minister of Social Development and representatives from the Ministries of Education and Health, judges, members of the police force, UNICEF and UNFPA country representatives and psychosocial service specialists attended the conference. The performances were each followed by an interactive discussion allowing the public to share their thoughts, reactions and opinions on the play. On the Edge of Silence was able to reach remote areas by targeting people through live performances, as well as through media coverage. The play was also promoted and supported by different social media outlets, such as Facebook and Twitter. WWSF PRIZE (US$ 1000) The National Family Safety Program, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia On the occasion of 19 days of activism 1-19 November, the National Family Safety Program organized a campaign on the theme of bullying. A series of activities was introduced according to a program set up in three phases. The first phase consisted of the creation of a blog on the campaign (2 598 hits around the world), accompanied by visits to primary and secondary schools in Riyadh for the purpose of raising awareness. It was also accompanied by the use of Twibbon, a site where one can make a virtual bumper sticker to attach to his profile on social networks in order to support a cause. The total number of participants during the period of 1 to 19 November came to 176. During the second phase, the awareness building effort intensified in schools: interactive workshops led by the Amaan Youth Group, the distribution of the Guide to prevent and protect children from bullying, and the launching of two surveys, completed by 527 students on their knowledge and experience on bullying. The celebration of the World Day for the Prevention of Child Abuse constituted the third phase of the program, and took place at the Kingdom Center of Riyadh in order to reach out to more people. It is also noted that the National Family Safety Program is now preparing a detailed study on bullying in school Global Impact Report 19 Days of activism 1-19 Nov. and World Day for Prevention Child Abuse 19 Nov. 16
