1 Chapter 1 Objectifs In this chapter you will learn to: ask or tell what someone is like ask or tell where someone is from ask or tell who someone is describe yourself or someone else Standards: NL.CLL.1.3 Use a variety of verbal and non-verbal communication strategies to ask memorized questions and express ideas or thoughts with prompting and modeling. Blooms I NL.CLL.2.1 Understand the meaning of simple, spoken greetings, words, and phrases, when accompanied by visual clues and/or prompts, as needed. Blooms II NL.CLL.2.4 Interpret phrases, commands, simple questions and descriptions that are presented with accompanying gestures, intonations, and other visual and auditory clues. Blooms II NL.CMT.1.1 Use single words and simple, memorized phrases to carry out simple interactions with people from the target culture or with communities of learners of the same target language. Fill in the blank exercise where students complete with the correct form of adjectives (masculine/feminine). Criteria for success: choose the correct form of the adjective. Use the graphic organizer to take notes about each person as you read. Note: some paragraphs will include just a few pieces of information, while others will be more detailed. Valérie Boucher est française aussi. Elle est de Fort-de-France, la ville principale de la Martinique. La Martinique est une île française dans la mer des Caraïbes (la mer des Antilles). Valérie est élève dans un lycée à Fort-de-France le lycée Bellevue. Le lycée Bellevue est une école excellente. Bonjour! Je m appelle Diane Koffi. Je suis d Abidjan. Abidjan est la ville principale de la Côte d Ivoire. La Côte d Ivoire est un pays d Afrique Occidentale. C est un pays francophone. Moi, je m appelle Karim Ashour. Je suis tunisien. Je suis de Tunis, la capitale de la Tunisie. La Tunisie est un pays nord-africain sur la mer Méditerranée. La langue officielle de la Tunisie est l arabe. Le français est la deuxième langue. 5 Interpersonal Task : (teacher grades using rubric) You will do this part in front of the teacher. With a partner, find out more about one another in French. Using what we ve learned in this chapter, ask informal questions to your peer to find out the following: 1. name 2. nationality 3. where s/he is from 4. physical description 5. personality description 6. where s/he is a student 7. what his/her school is like 8. is s/he a sister, brother, friend to someone Take notes as you learn about one another add to the bottom of the graphic organizer. You may only speak French. Your goal is communication...not perfection. Once you have your notes about your partner, write a paragraph about him or her, in French. Write on the back of your graphic organizer. Write 5-8 complete sentences, in paragraph form, that give all of the information above. You will turn in your graphic organizer as well as the paragraph on the back. Presentational Task: (teacher grades using rubric) From what you ve learned about your partner, introduce him/her to the class. Speaking only in French, tell us about your partner. Use the 3rd person: il/elle and the appropriate form of the verb être. Start with c est his/her name. Be sure to include the following: nationality where s/he is from physical description personality description where s/he is a student what his/her school is like is s/he a sister, brother, friend to someone Use correct pronunciation, intonation, projection and eye contact.
