I can conjugate -ER verbs *A expresses an or. *Basic forms of verbs are. *Infinitive form means to ex: (to play, to sleep) *Verbs in vocabulary lists in this book and in French Dictionaries are in the infinitive form. f*many French infinitives end in er *You only use the infinitive form when you want to say to Some examples: Conjugating verbs means to give the form that goes with the subject pronouns. Chanter= to sing Je chante= I sing. Conjugating er verbs: 1.Drop the er. What is left is called the stem. 2.Add the endings to the stem. The nous and vous phrases sound different: parlohn, parlay infinitive- chanter stem- chant Je chant e (I sing) Nous chant ons (we sing) Tu chant es(you sing) Vous chant ez (you sing) Il chant e (he sings) Ils chant ent (they sing) Elle chant e (she sings) Elles chant ent (they sing) On chant e (one, people sing) Je becomes j before a vowel (a,e,i,o,u). You have already seen this with j adore and j aime. 4. & 5. I can talk about my likes and dislikes, and have a simple conversation about daily activities. (AKA MAKING SENTENCES NEGATIVE) To say you do not do something, put ne in front of the verb and pas after the verb. Je danse Je ne danse pas Nous frappons Nous ne frappons pas J aime Je n aime pas (J because of vowel) (je because not in front of vowel, n because of vowel) Je joue au tennis Je ne joue pas au tennis (Keep the ne pas around the verb) a. b c.
