1 FLF 1102 Course syllabus: The following is a tentative syllabus ( un programme ). Changes--especially in specific assignments to write out and/or hand in--may be made during the semester. With the exception of day 1, assignments indicated on the syllabus should be prepared BEFORE the class period indicated. For example, before class period on Wednesday, January 14, you should have looked over the information on Learning Vocabulary on my web site, looked over vocabulary on p. 257, read over pages in Vis-à-vis, and prepared the exercises indicated. Assignments in brackets [ ] will be done in class. You do not have to prepare them ahead of time, but you may wish to look them over. Be sure to do the readings (à lire) BEFORE you do the exercises indicated, and take notes on the exercises or write out the entire exercise before class so that you will be able to participate fully. More specific assignments may be given in class. Homework to be handed in at the beginning of class is marked with an asterisk (*) and should be written out fully. No credit will be given for homework written out during the class period. Be sure to prepare all assignments so that you are ready and able to provide answers in class. This work is a large part of your participation grade, and evidence of not being prepared will affect that grade adversely. Suggested progress for completing the workbook/lab book is indicated for chapter 9. This should give you an idea of how to pace yourself for subsequent chapters. Specific workbook/lab assignments for these chapters are not indicated, but you should keep up with the workbook and lab as we go through each chapter, preparing exercises that pertain to what you are reviewing in the main text, to be able to hand in the completed/corrected workbook/lab book on the date indicated. Be sure to give yourself time to check your answers and correct those exercises you can, using a contrasting color to show your corrections (ie: dark blue and black do NOT show enough contrast. Black/blue and red/orange/green do). The columns marked with are provided to help you keep track of your class preparation. When you have finished preparation (reading or writing out exercises), place a check mark in the column following the assignment. You are not prepared for class until both columns are checked! Aural comprehension exercises for the lab/workbook, and «À l écoute sur Internet» can be found on CD s in the lab or on the book website : From the main page, choose «student edition» from the menu at left ; then choose the chapter you want to work with from the «choose a chapter» list at the left of the page. «Audio program» corresponds to the audio segments in the lab/workbook.
