Speak standard French at advanced-mid level as defined by ACTFL 2. Read non-technical prose at advanced level as defined by ACTFL 3. Comprehend clearly articulated conversations on everyday topics in standard French at the ACTFL advanced level. 4. Write about non-technical topics at the intermediate-high/advanced ACTFL level. 5. Demonstrate knowledge of French and Francophone cultures. 6. Have read great works of French and Francophone literature and have a sense of their place in literary history. 7. Research literary and cultural topics and report findings. 8. Obtain skills to help them qualify for professional work in various areas such as teaching, translating and interpreting, positions in business appropriate to students in the languages or be prepared to attend graduate school. 9. Reflect on the social values of the culture(s) they are studying and be able to draw reasoned comparisons to their own culture on topics important to the culture(s) being studied. Pre-Requisite: a grade of B or better in French 3 Materials: Please bring to class EVERYDAY. Folder/Binder: Students must have a pocket folder/section of binder devoted solely to French. Pen/Pencil: If you arrive to class without a writing utensil, borrow one from a friend or from the bin on the table BEFORE class begins. Daily Assignment: This should be in your folder/ binder and must be completed BEFORE class begins. Absences/Tardies You are responsible for finding out what you missed by consulting the Absence Binder. There you will find Lesson Plans & Extra Worksheets. If you need help with make-up work, please set up a time with Madame during A+ or before or after school. You may make up quizzes/tests during A+, before or after school. Missed assessments should be made up within a week. There will be a cutoff date for make-up work at the end of each mid-quarter. Long-term projects must be turned in on time regardless of absence. (exceptions are made for extenuating circumstances talk to Madame.). Participation in a field trip, athletic events, extra-curricular activities, or any other anticipated appointment during class does not excuse you from assignments or assessments that are due that day! It is your responsibility to schedule assessments and get class work turned in at the beginning of class the following day. I want to hire an employee who comes late to work, said no employer, ever. Please be on time to class. Academic Honesty and Internet Translators All work must represent your own original thought and expression. You may use a translator to look up individual words; however, using the internet to translate entire sentences and paragraphs is considered cheating. Students who use a translator excessively will be assessed a zero for that assignment and may not be given the opportunity to redo the work.

2 Grading Policy: UWGB Grading Scale % A 88-92% A/B 83-87% B 78-82% B/C 73-77% C 68-72% C/D 60-67% D Semester Grade Each quarter grade is worth 42.5%; semester exam is worth 15% Classwork-40%: This is the work you produce in class and for class to show you are actively working towards proficiency in French. Participation-20% of quarter grade: essential in a communicative language class! Includes Not only raising your hand to answer a question but also daily practice of the 4 skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Making an effort to speak French while challenging yourself to use the level of language that you are learning. Being on task while in class. Being a good listener not interrupting the learning process for others. Homework/Daily Classwork- 20% of quarter grade Successful students spend minutes each day working on the homework and studying language concepts introduced in class. May include a daily warm-up or exit slip. May include workbook or worksheet assignments, free-reading or internet assignments, or watching French movie clips music videos or news clips. Will usually be corrected in class and graded on effort and assigned at the end of most class sessions. 3 pts. complete (before class); quality work. 2 pts. half complete; less quality. 1 pt. started. 0 pts. not completed; or not with you. each quarter your lowest homework score will be dropped. Assessment-60%: This measures the level of proficiency obtained by the student. Includes quizzes, tests, projects, and presentations. This is how you show what you have learned and tells us (and you) if you are ready to move on. Quizzes and tests are one measure of proficiency. Include listening, speaking, reading, writing and interpersonal communication skills. Are given about once a week. Help the student monitor progress on a consistent basis. Students who consistently complete homework and participate in class tend to do well on quizzes. Since quizzes show how you are progressing towards specific proficiency targets, if you are having difficulties, it s going to be hard to move on to new skills. Therefore, retakes will be allowed after receiving help (either come in during A+ or before or after school). Projects and presentations give the student an opportunity to exhibit learning in a different way. Require meeting deadlines. Involve organizing research; presenting to the class; taking notes during presentations.
