Paddy Stewart est actuellement le chairman de Warlukurlangu Artists Committee. En 1971, il est l un des artistes qui peignirent le «Rêve de la fourmi à miel» sur le mur historique de l école à Papunya. En 1983, il fait partie des cinq artistes qui ornèrent ces fameuses portes de leurs Rêves. En 1989, avec quatre seniors, il est reçu au Centre d art contemporain Georges Pompidou (Paris) pour créer une installation au sol temporaire lors de l exposition «Les magiciens de la Terre». En 2001, Paddy Stewart et Paddy Sims remportent le Telstra Price pour leur œuvre sur papier.

3 GIJA MANAMBARRAM JIMERRAWOON GIJA SENIOR LAW PEOPLE FOREVER An exhibition of recent work by eight senior Gija artists from the Warmun Art Centre, Western Australia 6 June to 10 October, 2013 Australian Embassy, Paris - FREE ENTRY Lena Nyadbi with Jimbirla and Dayiwul, Australian Embassy Paris, June 2013 In conjunction with the recent inauguration of Dayiwul Lirlmim, a 700 m2 monumental installation on the roof of Musée du quai Branly by Indigenous artist Lena Nyadbi, the Australian Embassy in Paris is proud to present an exhibition of contemporary works from the Warmun Art Centre, featuring eight senior Indigenous artists: Lena Nyadbi; Rusty Peters; Shirley Purdie; Freddie Timms, Mabel Juli; Churchill Cann; Phyllis Thomas and Rammey Ramsey. A tiny Gija-speaking Aboriginal community of about 600 people in far north Western Australia, 4300 km from Sydney, Warmun is one of the principle centers of East Kimberley Aboriginal art. In the late 1970s, Warmun (called Turkey Creek before returning to its original Aboriginal name), was home to the first major development in contemporary Kimberley art, via a group who painted ceremonial boards used in a Gija song-and-dance cycle called the Gurirr Gurirr. With their characteristic planes of brown, black and yellow ochre, defined by white and black dots, East Kimberley paintings of the land and its structure, often incorporating ancestor figures with contemporary and historical events, differ substantially from the Western Kimberley where striking Wandjina images of the human body dominate or the Western and Central Deserts, where artists use predominantly acrylic paints. Australian Ambassador to France Ric Wells said that the embassy exhibition further opens the door on the dazzling diversity of Aboriginal art and the communities which produce it. These communities vary greatly but all have social systems that organize life and experience, and explain the universe and the place of people in it. We know from rock art that painting has been a vital part of these systems, for tens of thousands of years. Australian Embassy 4, rue Jean Rey Paris Tel Metro: Bir Hakeim / RER C : Champ de Mars-Tour Eiffel Opening hours: Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm (closed on public holidays) DAYIWUL LIRLMIM AT THE MUSÉE DU QUAI BRANLY A monumental installation by Lena Nyadbi The musée du quai Branly in Paris is now home to a new monumental installation by leading Aboriginal Australian artist Lena Nyadbi. Unveiled in Paris on 6 June 2013, the outdoor work is titled Dayiwul Lirlmim (Barramundi Scales). Filling the 700 square metres rooftop, the giant rendering is an adaptation of a new black and white painting by the artist. The original artwork will also go on display at the Paris Museum. Both works have been inspired by Nyadbi s mother s land in Dayiwul Country in Western Australia.

4 The Paris installation coincides with a major new exhibition of Kimberley artists from the Warmun Art Centre at the Australian Embassy in Paris. SO FAR FROM HOME Historial de la Grand Guerre, Péronne 23 april 24 november 2013 FREE ENTRY The exhibition So Far from Home, the story of six Australians on the Western Front recounts the experiences of five men and one woman, all of whom had different reasons for volunteering. Some had enlisted through a sense of duty to the Mother Country, others through ethnic or family loyalty or simply to explore the world while on leave. Australia, which numbered just under five million inhabitants at the time, joined the Allies at the very start of the First World War. It was one of the few countries that shied away from introducing conscription, and its army was composed entirely of volunteers. In all, 416,819 Australians volunteered for the Australian Imperial Force (AIF). Over 60,000 were killed and more than 159,000 wounded, gassed or taken prisoner. CHARLES TREVELYAN BETWEEN THE LINES CARPENTERS WORKSHOP GALLERY PARIS 54 RUE DE LA VERRERIE PARIS / MON TO SAT 10AM - 7PM PARIS@CARPENTERSWORKSHOPGALLERY.COM / The Australian designer Charles Trevelyan initially studied materials engineering, majoring in physics and chemistry. This led him to explore the properties of ceramics, glass, plastics and composites. He completed it with a year at the Beaux-arts where he learned sculpture, three dimensional design and graphics. He became a designer on moving to London in 2000 as a means of putting his scientific and technical skills into practice.

5 His education gave him an understanding of the structure of objects, the way they are built, how they work. This has proven to be a useful dimension when putting together a project. I don t use it consciously but it is likely that my scientific background influences my work. His first collaboration with Carpenters Workshop Gallery gave birth to the Titanic lamp that went on show in the London gallery in He then went on to make the light On a Limb ( ) which was the start of a new direction in his work. The designer interprets the object with a poetic and technical shape, a reflection on the notion of balance that results from the object s inner tension. Charles Trevelyan confirms this orientation with his new collection Between the Lines on show in Paris from September 7th He created pieces based on the scientific calculation of structure, but made them as a sculptor. The aesthetic of these pieces comes from the dynamic interaction between the design, the model, the three-dimensional mock-up and the prototype. The bronze moulding technique of the pieces is the faithful expression of his creative input and also enables him to envisage the finish, the patina and the variations in colour. The band has been based in Paris for the past 4 years touring and recording music. At the end of 2012, Belle Roscoe decided to team up with renowned Belgium producer/electronic DJ Luuk Cox to produce their new album. This record is a result of working in Studios between Melbourne, Belgium, Paris and Malta. The sound is fresh a dreamy Rock/Pop album laced with vintage synths, driving guitar hooks and sibling harmonies. Belle Roscoe is currently on tour in France performing festivals to thousands of people. Before the big move back to Australia to launch the new album, Belle Roscoe is pleased to announce one show only in Paris on 13th September at Le Nouveau Casino. Naturally they would love to see the Aussies of Paris there! Socceroos Head Coach Holger Osieck is looking to use this match as another key part of the preparations for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. This will be the fourth match between France and Australia at senior men s international level and the first on French soil.
