2 1 EP B1 2 Description Technical Field [0001] This invention relates to protection of circuit identification information and more particularly, to an arrangement for protecting a serial number of a printed circuit board. Background of the Invention [0002] A problem for companies who manufacture, sell, and service large electronic systems is to be able to identify on a customer site or at a repair facility individual printed circuit cards. Within the telecommunication industry, the cost of an individual printed circuit board is thousands of dollars. In addition, because of the global economy, a manufacturer may choose to sell the identical printed circuit board at a lower cost in a first country than in a second country. The so-called gray market is the practice of taking cards that are sold in the first country and shipping them to the second country. From a contractual point of view, this practice is not allowed, however it is difficult to prevent unless individual cards can be identified with a unique serial number. [0003] The second problem that manufacturers have with the more expensive and more complex cards is the necessity of being able to track individual cards for repair purposes. For example, most large system manufacturers maintain a data base that identifies each card produced by that manufacturer by a unique serial number. This serial number is utilized to identify problems that have been occurring on the printed circuit board and also to be able to know what vintage a particular type of printed circuit board is. Finally, manufacturers also offer service contracts for the maintenance of their systems. A large customer may choose to have a maintenance contract on one system but not on another system. The problem that occurs is that if the customer detects that a printed circuit board has failed in a system that does not have a maintenance contract, the customer may move the failed printed circuit board to the system that has the maintenance contract. Hence, even within a single country, it is necessary to be able to identify an individual printed circuit board to an individual system. [0004] The prior art has attempted to address these problems in a variety of ways. First, is to place the serial number of the card in printable form on the printed circuit board using a barcode or a human readable number. The problem with this solution is that individuals simply manufacture their own labels. Manufacturers have also attempted to mold or laser reproduce serial numbers into the face plates of printed circuit boards or on the printed circuit boards themselves. These techniques suffer from cost and also in the case of the face plates individuals simply remove the face plates and move it to another printed circuit board. A final solution is to utilize unique integrated circuits that have a preset number. Such an integrated circuit is placed on the printed circuit board in a manner in which it can be read externally by a device. The problem with this solution is that these devices are easily identified on a printed circuit board and can be removed and placed on another printed circuit board. In addition, the number is determined by the manufacturer of the integrated circuit and does not directly correspond with the actual serial number of the printed circuit board. In addition, there is the cost associated with the purchase and the installation of a unique integrated circuit on a printed circuit board for the sole purpose of identifying the board. One such device that has a pre-programmed identification number is the DS1990A manufactured by Dallas Semiconductor. [000] In the document EP-A a remote inventory system uses unique serial numbers burned into PROMs on each PCB. A monitor program run by a processor resident at each remote site periodically collects the serial numbers and transmits them to a central database. Summary of the Invention [0006] According to the present invention there is provided a method according to claim 1. Further there is provided an apparatus according to claim. [0007] Thus, the foregoing problems are solved and a technical advance is achieved by allowing a test set during the final testing of a printed circuit board to insert the actual serial number of the printed circuit board into one or more memory devices on the printed circuit board. [0008] Advantageously, the test set obtains the serial number of the printed circuit board by the utilization of scanner which scans the serial number from the barcode on the printed circuit board. Further, the barcode's serial number is uniquely identified by the manufacturer in the manufacturer's database. The test set inserts the serial information into one or more memory devices on the printed circuit board. Advantageously, the serial information is encrypted before being inserted into the memory devices. The serial number is then transmitted to the manufacturer's database where it is stored and associated with the telecommunication switching system that the printed circuit board will be inserted into. The central database in response to the serial information transmits operational information such as programs and data to the test set for insertion into the printed circuit board. After the printed circuit board has finished being tested on the test set, it is made operational in its assigned telecommunications switching system either at the manufacturer's location or in a field installation. During routine maintenance, a processor controlling the telecommunication switching system requests the serial number from the printed circuit board. A controller providing control of the printed circuit board decrypts the serial number and transmits it to the processor. The 2

3 3 EP B1 4 processor then transmits a request to the manufacturer's database to verify that the printed circuit board as identified by the serial number should be operational in this particular telecommunication switching system. This request can be made either by a direct telecommunication call or via the Internet. The manufacturer's database determines if the printed circuit board should or should not be operational in this particular telecommunication switching system. If the answer is yes, the card is allowed to remain operational. If the answer is no, the processor controlling the telecommunication switching system disables the printed circuit board and initiate a maintenance alarm. Advantageously, the checking to verify that the printed circuit board is operational in its assigned telecommunication switching system prevents the unauthorized use of the printed circuit board in other telecommunication switching systems. [0009] These and other features and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description of the illustrative embodiments of the invention considered together with the drawing. Brief Description of the Drawing [00] FIG. 1 illustrates in block diagram form, a system for implementing the invention during testing; FIG. 2 illustrates, in block form, a system for implementing the invention during field use; FIG. 3 illustrates, in flowchart form, the steps performed by a test set processor; and FIG. 4 illustrates, in flowchart form, the steps performed by printed circuit board processor. Detailed Description [0011] FIG. 1 illustrates the apparatus for implementing the invention. Test set 1 is of a type well known in the art. An example of such a test set is the HP70. Test set 1 establishes electrical contact with a printed circuit board such as printed circuit board 2 via bed of nails 4. Bed of nails 4 has a plurality of small vertical electrical contact pins that establish electrical connections with various portions of printed circuit board 2. Test set 1 is controlled by test set processor 8. User interface 7 allows an operator of test set 1 to interface with test set processor 8. Test set processor 8 can receive and transmit signals to printed circuit board 2 via interface circuit 6 and bed of nails 4. Barcode scanner 9 is utilized to scan the barcodes on printed circuit boards. As is well known in the art, test set processor 8 can exchange data with central database 111. [0012] Printed circuit board 2 has a large number of components designated as components 112. As is illustrated in FIG. 2, components 112 includes flash memory 6, flash memory 7, line circuits 8 and printed circuit board processor 4. Not illustrated in FIG. 1, printed circuit board 2 has a connector of a well-known design that allows it to plug into a carrier within PBX 0 of FIG. 2. [0013] Central database 111 maintains a database for all printed circuit boards being manufactured or that have been manufactured by a particular manufacturer, and in which PBX, a printed circuit board is allowed to be operational. Central database 111 also contains the programs and operational data that must be loaded in to flash memories 6 and 7. During the testing of printed circuit board 2, test set 1 requests the program and operational data from central database 111. Test set 1 then inserts this data into the appropriate flash memories and other devices. Next, test set processor 8 instructs the operator to utilize barcode scanner 9 to scan barcode 3 that is affixed to printed circuit board 2. Barcode 3 defines the unique serial number of printed circuit board 2 that defines various attributes of the board to the manufacturer. In response to the serial number, test processor 8 transmits this to central database 111 and programs it into flash memory 6 and 7. Since flash memories 6 and 7 are large memories each consisting of megabytes of information, these memories cannot be readily exchanged nor can an individual easily find the serial number. In addition, the serial number can be encoded using wellknown techniques. Central database 111 then correlates printed circuit board 2 with the serial number. Finally, test processor 8 performs a full functional test of printed circuit board 2 to assure that printed circuit board 2 is properly functioning. [0014] FIG. 2 illustrates an apparatus for implementing the invention in a field environment. PBX 0 is providing telecommunication service for telephone sets 212 through 213. The telephone sets are connected to the switching network 2 via line circuits 8 through 9. In addition, line circuits 8 and 9 are connected to bus 214 and receive control information from PBX processor 1 via bus 214. PBX processor 1 provides the overall control for PBX 0. Remote maintenance printed circuit board 211 provides the remote maintenance capability on PBX 0 for maintenance center 217. [001] During normal operation, maintenance center 217 accesses remote maintenance printed circuit board 211 via Internet 219, PBX processor 1, and bus 214. As is well known in the art, PBX processor 1 may also have access to Internet 219 through other computers. In addition, upon the failure of PBX processor 1, maintenance center 217 accesses remote maintenance printed circuit board 211 via public telephone network 218. In addition, public telephone network 218 provides access to other telephones for telephone sets 212 through 213 via switching network 2. Maintenance center 217 obtains the serial numbers for the printed circuit boards in PBX 0 from central database 111 via Internet 219 or public telephone net 218. Periodically, 3

4 EP B maintenance center 217 requests via Internet 219 from PBX processor 1 the serial numbers of all printed circuit boards in PBX 0. In response to this request from maintenance center 217, PBX processor 1 obtains the serial number for each individual printed circuit board by performing the following operations with each printed circuit board. For example, PBX processor 1 requests from printed circuit board processor 4 the serial number for printed circuit board 2. Printed circuit board processor 4 accesses the locations where the serial number is stored in both flash memory 6 and 7. Printed circuit board processor 4 then transmits the serial number to PBX processor 1 which in turn relays it to maintenance center 217. Various encryption methods can also be utilized to encrypt the serial numbers stored in flash memories 6 and 7. [0016] FIG. 3 illustrates, in flowchart form, the steps performed by test set processor 8. After the program is started by the operator from block 1, block 2 activates the mechanism that causes bed of nails 4 to make contact with printed circuit board 2. Block 3 then obtains the programs and data from central database 111, and block 4 loads the data and programs into the appropriate memories on printed circuit board 2. Block 6 requests that the operator of test set 1 use barcode scanner 9 to scan barcode 3 of printed circuit board 2. Decision block 7 waits until the operator has scanned the barcode before transferring control to block 8. The latter block reads the barcode from barcode scanner 1. Block 9 converts the barcode into the serial number of printed circuit board 2 and stores this in memories 6 and 7. The serial numbers may be encrypted or otherwise made unintelligible to those trying to obtain the serial number from memories 6 and 7 utilizing techniques well known to those skilled in the art. After the serial number has been stored on printed circuit board 2, the serial number is transmitted to central database 111. The operation is now completed by execution of block 312. Note, as is well known in the art, test set 1 also performs the necessary diagnostics to establish that printed circuit board 2 is functioning properly. FIG. 4 illustrates the operations performed by printed circuit board processor 4 of FIG. 2. Once started in block 1, decision block 2 waits for a request for the serial number stored in flash memories 6 and 7 from PBX processor 1. If a request is not received, control is transferred to block 3 which performs normal processing for the functions of printed circuit board 2. If a request for a serial number is received, decision block 2 transfers control to block 4 that accesses the serial numbers from memories 6 and 7. Block 6 then analyzes the serial numbers. Block 6 decrypts the serial numbers if they are encrypted or otherwise protected from casual scrutiny. Once the necessary operations have been performed to extract the serial numbers in their correct form, the serial numbers are compared to make sure that they are the same by decision block 7. If the answer is no, block 8 performs error recovery before transferring control back to decision block 2. This error recovery would include informing PBX processor 1 of the failure. In response, PBX processor 1 makes printed circuit board 2 non-operational and institutes a maintenance alarm. If the serial numbers are the same, decision block 7 transfers control to block 9 that transmits the resulting serial number to PBX processor 1 before transferring control back to decision block 2. Claims 1. A method for protecting product serial information in a printed circuit board (2), comprising the steps of: reading (7, 8) the serial information in visual form on the printed circuit board by a test set (1) using an optical scanner (9) during final test of the printed circuit board connected to the test set in a factory; CHARACTERIZED BY inserting (9) the serial information into a plurality of memory devices on the printed circuit board by the test set in the factory; transmitting (311) the serial information in the factory to a central database (111) for storage; transmitting (3) operational information comprising programs and data for the operation of the printed circuit board from the central database to the test set in the factory; storing the operational information into the printed circuit board by test set in the factory (4); initializing (1) operational status of the printed circuit board in a telecommunication switching system (0) in the field; requesting (2) the serial information from the printed circuit board by a processor (1) controlling the telecommunication switching system in which the printed circuit board is operational in the field; transmitting (4) the serial information to the processor by the printed circuit board in the field; requesting (1) by the processor that the central data base verify that the printed circuit board as identified by the serial information should be operational in the telecommunication switching system in the field; determining (111) whether or not the printed circuit board should be operational in the telecommunication switching system in the field by the central database; transmitting (111) the determination to the processor in the field if it is determined that the printed circuit board should not be operational in the tel- 4

5 7 EP B1 8 ecommunication switching system ; and making (1) the printed circuit board non-operational by the processor in the field in response to the determination by the central database if it is determined that the printed circuit board should not be operational in the telecommunication switching system. 2. The method of claim 1 wherein the step of inserting the serial information into the plurality of memories by the test set comprises the step of encrypting the serial information by a controller controlling the printed circuit board. 3. The method of claim 2 wherein the step of transmitting serial information to the processor by the printed circuit board comprises the step of decrypting the serial information by the controller controlling the printed circuit board. 4. The method of claim 3 further comprises the step of allowing the printed circuit board to remain operational upon the determination by the central data base indicating that the printed circuit board should be operational in the telecommunication switching system.. An apparatus for protecting product serial information in a printed circuit board (2), comprising: means (7, 8) for reading the serial information in visual form on the printed circuit board by a test set (1) using an optical scanner (9) during final test of the printed circuit board connected to the test set in a factory; means (2) for transmitting the serial information to the processor in the field by the printed circuit board; means (1) for requesting by the processor in the field that the central data base verify that the printed circuit board as identified by the serial information should be operational in the telecommunication switching system; means (111) for determining whether or not the printed circuit board should be operational in the telecommunication switching system in the field by the central database; means (111) for transmitting the determination to the processor in the field if it is determined that the printed circuit board should not be operational in the telecommunication switching system ; and means (1) for making the printed circuit board non-operational by the processor in the field in response to the determination by the central database if it is determined that the printed circuit board should not be operational in the telecommunication switching system. 6. The apparatus of claim wherein the means for inserting the serial information into the plurality of memories by the test set comprises means for encrypting the serial information by a controller controlling the printed circuit board. 7. The apparatus of claim 6 wherein the means of transmitting serial information to the processor by the printed circuit board comprises means for decrypting the serial information by the controller controlling the printed circuit board. CHARACTERIZED BY means (9) for inserting the serial information into a plurality of memory devices on the printed circuit board by the test set in the factory; means (311) for transmitting the serial information in the factory to a central database for storage; means (3) for transmitting operational information comprising programs and data for the operation of the printed circuit board from the central database to the test set in the factory; means (4) for storing the operational information into printed circuit board by test set in the factory; means (1) for initializing operational status of printed circuit board in a telecommunication switching system (0) in the field; means (2) for requesting the serial information from the printed circuit board by a processor (1) controlling the telecommunication switching system in the field in which the printed circuit board is operational; The apparatus of claim 7 further comprises means for allowing the printed circuit board to remain operational upon the determination by the central data base indicating that the printed circuit board should be operational in the telecommunication switching system. Patentansprüche 1. Verfahren zum Schützen einer Produktserieninformation auf einer gedruckten Leiterplatte (2), mit den Schritten: Lesen (7, 8) der Serieninformation in visueller Form auf der gedruckten Leiterplatte mittels einer Prüfvorrichtung (1) unter Verwendung eines optischen Scanners (9) während eines Endtests der mit der Prüfvorrichtung in einer Fabrik verbundenen gedruckten Leiterplatte;

6 9 EP B1 gekennzeichnet durch Einfügen (9) der Serieninformation in eine Vielzahl von Speichereinrichtungen auf der gedruckten Leiterplatte durch das Prüfgerät in der Fabrik; Übertragen (311) der Serieninformation in der Fabrik in eine zentrale Datenbank (311) zur Speicherung; Übertragen (3) von Betriebsinformationen, die Programme und Daten für den Betrieb der gedruckten Leiterplatte umfassen, aus der zentralen Datenbank an die Prüfvorrichtung in der Fabrik; Einspeichern der Betriebsinformation in die gedruckte Leiterplatte durch die Prüfvorrichtung in der Fabrik (4); Initialisieren (1) des Betriebszustands der gedruckten Leiterplatte in einem Telekommunikationsvermittlungssystem (0) im Feld; Anfordern (2) der Serieninformation aus der gedruckten Leiterplatte durch einen Prozessor (1), welcher das Telekommunikationsvermittlungssystem steuert, in welchem die gedruckte Leiterplatte im Feld betrieben wird; Übertragen (4) der Serieninformation an den Prozessor durch die gedruckte Leiterplatte im Feld; Anfordern (1) durch den Prozessor, daß die zentrale Datenbank verifiziert, daß die durch die Serieninformation identifizierte gedruckte Leiterplatte in dem Telekommunikationsvermittlungssystem im Feld arbeiten sollte; Ermitteln (111), durch die zentrale Datenbank, ob die gedruckte Leiterplatte in dem Telekommunikationsvermittlungssystem im Feld arbeiten sollte; Übertragen (111) des Ermittlungsergebnisses an den Prozessor im Feld, wenn ermittelt wird, daß die gedruckte Leiterplatte nicht in dem Telekommunikationssystem arbeiten sollte; und Versetzen (1) der gedruckten Leiterplatte in einen nicht betriebsfähigen Zustand durch den Prozessor im Feld als Reaktion auf die Ermittlung durch die zentrale Datenbank, wenn ermittelt wird, daß die gedruckte Leiterplatte nicht in dem Telekommunikationsvermittlungssystem arbeiten sollte. 2. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, wobei der Schritt der Einfügung der Serieninformation in die Vielzahl von Speichern durch die Prüfvorrichtung den Schritt der Verschlüsselung der Serieninformation durch eine die gedruckte Leiterplatte steuernde Steuereinrichtung umfaßt. 3. Verfahren nach Anspruch 2, wobei der Schritt der Übertragung der Serieninformation an den Prozessor durch die gedruckte Leiterplatte den Schritt der Entschlüsselung der Serieninformation durch die die gedruckte Leiterplatte steuernde Steuereinrichtung aufweist. 4. Verfahren nach Anspruch 3, welches ferner den Schritt der Zulassung aufweist, daß die gedruckte Leiterplatte nach der Ermittlung durch die zentrale Datenbank, welche anzeigt, daß die gedruckte Leiterplatte in dem Telekommunikationsvermittlungssystem betriebsfähig sein sollte, betriebsfähig bleibt.. Vorrichtung zum Schutz einer Produktserieninformation in einer gedruckten Leiterplatte (2), welche aufweist: eine Einrichtung zum Lesen (7, 8) der Serieninformation in visueller Form auf der gedruckten Leiterplatte mittels einer Prüfvorrichtung (1) unter Verwendung eines optischen Scanners (9) während eines Endtests der mit der Prüfvorrichtung in einer Fabrik verbundenen gedruckten Leiterplatte; gekennzeichnet durch eine Einrichtung (9) zum Einfügen der Serieninformation in eine Vielzahl von Speichervorrichtungen auf der gedruckten Leiterplatte durch das Prüfgerät in der Fabrik; eine Einrichtung (311) zum Übertragen der Serieninformation in der Fabrik in eine zentrale Datenbank (311) zur Speicherung; eine Einrichtung (3) zum Übertragen von Betriebsinformationen, welche Programme und Daten für den Betrieb der gedruckten Leiterplatte umfassen, aus der zentralen Datenbank an die Prüfvorrichtung in der Fabrik; eine Einrichtung (4) zum Einspeichern der Betriebsinformation in die gedruckte Leiterplatte durch die Prüfvorrichtung in der Fabrik; eine Einrichtung (1) zum Initialisieren des Betriebszustands der gedruckten Leiterplatte in einem Telekommunikationsvermittlungssystem (0) im Feld; eine Einrichtung (2) zum Anfordern der Serieninformation von der gedruckten Leiterplatte durch einen Prozessor (1), welcher das Telekommunikationsvermittlungssystem steuert, in welchem die gedruckte Leiterplatte im Feld betrieben wird; eine Einrichtung (2) zum Übertragen der Serieninformation an den Prozessor im Feld durch die gedruckte Leiterplatte; eine Einrichtung (1) zum Anfordern durch den Prozessor im Feld, daß die zentrale Datenbank verifiziert, daß die durch die Serieninformation identifizierte gedruckte Leiterplatte in dem Telekommunikationsvermittlungssystem arbeiten sollte; 6

7 11 EP B1 12 eine Einrichtung (111) zum Ermitteln, ob die gedruckte Leiterplatte in dem Telekommunikationsvermittlungssystem im Feld arbeiten sollte, durch die zentrale Datenbank; eine Einrichtung (111) zum Übertragen des Ermittlungsergebnisses an den Prozessor im Feld, wenn ermittelt wird, daß die gedruckte Leiterplatte nicht in dem Telekommunikationssystem arbeiten sollte; und eine Einrichtung (1) zum Versetzen der gedruckten Leiterplatte in einen nicht betriebsfähigen Zustand durch den Prozessor im Feld als Reaktion auf die Ermittlung durch die zentrale Datenbank, wenn ermittelt wird, daß die gedruckte Leiterplatte nicht in dem Telekommunikationsvermittlungssystem arbeiten sollte. 6. Vorrichtung nach Anspruch, wobei die Einrichtung zum Einfügen der Serieninformation in die Vielzahl von Speichern durch die Prüfvorrichtung eine Einrichtung für die Verschlüsselung der Serieninformation durch einen die gedruckte Leiterplatte steuernde Steuereinrichtung aufweist. 7. Vorrichtung nach Anspruch 6, wobei die Einrichtung zum Übertragen der Serieninformation an den Prozessor durch die gedruckte Leiterplatte eine Einrichtung für die Entschlüsselung der Serieninformation durch die die gedruckte Leiterplatte steuernde Steuereinrichtung aufweist. 8. Vorrichtung nach Anspruch 7, welche ferner eine Einrichtung zur Zulassung aufweist, daß die gedruckte Leiterplatte nach der Ermittlung durch die zentrale Datenbank, welche anzeigt, daß die gedruckte Leiterplatte in dem Telekommunikationsvermittlungssystem betriebsfähig sein sollte, betriebsfähig bleibt. Procédé pour protéger des informations de série de produit sur une carte à circuit imprimé (2), comprenant les étapes consistant à : combiné à l'usine ; transmettre (311) les informations de série en usine à une base de données centrale (111) pour mémorisation ; transmettre (3) des informations opérationnelles comprenant des programmes et des données destinés au fonctionnement de la carte à circuit imprimé de la base de données centrale à l'appareil de contrôle combiné à l'usine ; mémoriser les informations opérationnelles sur la carte à circuit imprimé au moyen de l'appareil de contrôle combiné à l'usine (4) ; initialiser (1) un état de fonctionnement de la carte à circuit imprimé dans un système de commutation de communications (0) sur le terrain ; demander (2) les informations de série à la carte à circuit imprimé à l'aide d'un processeur (1) commandant le système de commutation de communications dans lequel la carte à circuit imprimé est en état de fonctionnement sur le terrain ; transmettre (4) les informations de série au processeur au moyen de la carte à circuit imprimé sur le terrain ; demander (1) au moyen du processeur que la base de données centrale vérifie que la carte à circuit imprimé telle qu'identifiée par les informations de série doit être en état de fonctionnement dans le système de commutation de communications sur le terrain ; déterminer (111) si la carte à circuit imprimé doit être ou non en état de fonctionnement dans le système de commutation de communications sur le terrain au moyen de la base de données centrale ; transmettre (111) la détermination au processeur sur le terrain s'il est déterminé que la carte à circuit imprimé ne doit pas être en état de fonctionnement dans le système de commutation de communications ; et mettre (1) la carte à circuit imprimé en état de non-fonctionnement au moyen du processeur sur le terrain en réponse à la détermination par la base de données centrale s'il est déterminé que la carte à circuit imprimé ne doit pas être en état de fonctionnement dans le système de commutation de communications. lire (7, 8) les informations de série sous forme visuelle sur la carte à circuit imprimé au moyen d'un appareil de contrôle combiné (1) utilisant un numériseur graphique (9) pendant un contrôle final de la carte à circuit imprimé connectée à l'appareil de contrôle combiné en usine ; 0 2. Procédé selon la revendication 3 comprenant en outre l'étape consistant à permettre à la carte à circuit imprimé de rester en état de fonctionnement lors de la détermination par la base de données centrale indiquant que la carte à circuit imprimé doit être en état de fonctionnement dans le système de commutation de communications.. Appareil pour protéger des informations de série de produit sur une carte à circuit imprimé (2), comprenant : des moyens (7, 8) destinés à lire les informations de série sous forme visuelle sur la carte à circuit imprimé au moyen d'un appareil de contrôle combiné (1) utilisant un numériseur graphique (9) pendant un contrôle final de la carte à circuit imprimé connectée à l'appareil de contrôle combiné en usine ; caractérisé par un moyen (9) destiné à introduire les informations de série dans une pluralité de composants mémoire sur la carte à circuit imprimé au moyen de l'appareil de contrôle combiné à l'usine ; un moyen (311) destiné à transmettre les informations de série dans l'usine à une base de données centrale pour mémorisation ; un moyen (3) destiné à transmettre des informations opérationnelles comprenant des programmes et des données destinés au fonctionnement de la carte à circuit imprimé de la base de données centrale à l'appareil de contrôle combiné à l'usine ; un moyen (4) destiné à mémoriser les informations opérationnelles dans la carte à circuit imprimé au moyen de l'appareil de contrôle combiné à l'usine ; un moyen (1) destiné à initialiser un état de fonctionnement de la carte à circuit imprimé dans un système de commutation de communications (0) sur le terrain ; un moyen (2) destiné à demander les informations de série à la carte à circuit imprimé au moyen d'un processeur (1) commandant le système de commutation de communications sur le terrain sur lequel la carte à circuit imprimé est en état de fonctionnement ; un moyen (2) destiné à transmettre les informations de série au processeur sur le terrain au moyen de la carte à circuit imprimé ; un moyen (1) destiné à demander à l'aide du processeur sur le terrain que la base de données centrale vérifie que la carte à circuit imprimé telle qu'identifiée par les informations de série doit être en état de fonctionnement dans le système de commutation de communications ; un moyen (111) destiné à déterminer si la carte à circuit imprimé doit être ou non en état de fonctionnement dans le système de commutation de communications sur le terrain au moyen de la base de données centrale ; un moyen (111) destiné à transmettre la détermination au processeur sur le terrain s'il est déterminé que la carte à circuit imprimé ne doit pas être en état de fonctionnement dans le système de commutation de communications ; et un moyen (1) destiné à mettre la carte à circuit imprimé en état de non-fonctionnement au moyen du processeur sur le terrain en réponse à la détermination par la base de données centrale s'il est déterminé que la carte à circuit imprimé ne doit pas être en état de fonctionnement dans le système de commutation de communications. 6. Appareil selon la revendication, dans lequel le moyen destiné à introduire les informations de série dans la pluralité de mémoires à l'aide de l'appareil de contrôle combiné comprend un moyen destiné à crypter les informations de série à l'aide d'un régisseur commandant la carte à circuit imprimé. 7. Appareil selon la revendication 6, dans lequel le moyen de transmission d'informations de série au processeur à l'aide de la carte à circuit imprimé comprend un moyen destiné à déchiffrer les informations de série à l'aide du régisseur commandant la carte à circuit imprimé. 8. Appareil selon la revendication 7 comprenant en outre un moyen destiné à permettre à la carte à circuit imprimé de rester en état de fonctionnement lors de la détermination par la base de données centrale indiquant que la carte à circuit imprimé doit être en état de fonctionnement dans le système de commutation de communications. 8
