Voici quatre algorithmes : algo1 sortie k 0 Pour j allant de 1 à 2n 1 Si j est impair k k + j sortir : k algo2 sortir : n 2 algo3 sortie sortir : 2n 1+algo3(n 1) algo4 sortie sortir : n+ algo4(n 2) Pour chacun des quatre algorithmes ci-dessus, répondre aux questions suivantes : a) En général, que fait l algorithme? (si vous répondez juste à cette question, toutes les suivantes sont faciles) b) Que se passe-t-il si on exécute l algorithme avec la valeur d entrée 6? c) Quelle est l ordre de complexité de l algorithme? (utiliser la notation de Landau O( )) d) L algorithme est-il récursif ou non? 1

2 Voici quatre autres algorithmes : algo5 algo6 sortir : n+ algo5(n) algo7 sortir : 2 algo7(n 1) - algo7(n 2) sortir : n+ algo6(n +1) algo8 sortir : algo8(2n)+ algo8(2n 1) f) Un seul de ces algorithmes fonctionne correctement : lequel? g) Et celui qui fonctionne a un gros défaut : lequel? h) Question subsidiaire : que calcule-t-il? 2 Taille de liste Soit L une liste d entiers (pas forcément ordonnée et avec de possibles répétitions), comme par exemple {19, 31, 15, 21}. On cherche ici écrire un algorithme taille(l) qui retourne le nombre d éléments d une liste L donnée en entrée. On suppose que l on dispose d un autre algorithme a_element(l,i) qui nous dit (vrai ou faux) s il existe un i e élément dans la liste : il répond donc vrai si i est inférieur ou égal la taille de la liste et faux sinon Comment utiliser l algorithme a_element(l,i) pour calculer la taille de L en un temps linéaire (par rapport cette taille)? Ecrivez un algorithme pour le faire. 2. En vous inspirant de la recherche dichotomique (cf. cours), pourrait-on avoir une complexité moindre que linéaire? Si oui, quelle serait cette complexité et expliquez intuitivement comment procéder. Pour les plus motivés : essayez d écrire un tel algorithme. 1. Notez qu il n est pas évident de toujours avoir un tel algorithme (sans avoir taille, bien sûr!). En réalité cela dépend de la représentation fective de L. Mais nous faisons ici l hypothèse qu un tel algorithme existe pour L. 2

4 5 Tic-tac-toe (Optional) The game of tic-tac-toe is a paper-and-pencil game for two player ( and O), in which the players take turns marking with their symbol empty squares of the board. The board is a rectangular grid consisted of 9 squares (3 rows and 3 columns), numbered from 1 to 9 as shown below The winner is the first player who will manage to place 3 of their own marks in a straight line of consecutive squares. If the board fills up without such a line, then the game ends in a draw. Assume you are provided with an algorithm find_opponent_score, which given a board configuration, it outputs the best score your opponent can achieve by playing any (legal) move in this board (1 if the opponent has a strategy you can not defeat, 0 if the opponent cannot win but they can draw the game and -1 if your win is inevitable). 5.1 Find the best move Design an algorithm find_my_best_move, that, given a board configuration, would compute your best move. (a board configuration includes both the marked squares as well as the current player) Hint: your best move is the one that by playing it, your opponent will score the less. For your convenience, you may assume that you are given three algorithms: has_strike: given a board configuration, outputs 1 if the current player has created a consecutive line of 3 marks, -1 if the opponent has created such a line and 0 in any other case (note that the game may have ended with a draw). is_legal_move: given a board configuration and a square number, returns whether marking the given square is legal or not. play_move: given a board configuration and a square number, outputs the board configuration after the given square is marked by the current player. But, be careful! This algorithm has a precondition, it should not be invoked with an illegal-to-mark square! 5.2 Test and debug a) Show steps of the execution of your algorithm when its input is the board: O O O O with you playing as. b) Does your algorithm work correctly if the following board is given as input? O O O O O What should it return and what does it return? 5.3 Complexity Consider what would change if the board was bigger, specifically, if the board had N squares. a) What is the time complexity of your algorithm (with regard to the number of squares, N) if all the given algorithms have a constant (O(1)) complexity? b) Would the complexity of your algorithm change if the given algorithms had a temporal complexity of O(N)? 5.4 Multiplayer a) Modify your algorithm to return only the best score you can get (instead of the best move) b) Team-up with some other student and try to play a game using your algorithms. One of you () should start with the board from 2a and execute his/her algorithm, but instead of invoking find_opponent_score, it should pass the execution to the other player (O). What do you notice? Do you get the same results as in 2a? 5.5 Recursion Modify your existing algorithm to avoid calling find_opponent_score. Hint: How does your current algorithm's interface/description differ from find_opponent_score? 5
