The gathering was opened with a prayer from Otsi'tsaken:ra, followed by a performance from Odaya. The day was complete with an address from Mr Ghislain Picard, Assembly of First Nations Regional Chief of Quebec and Labrador, and a presentation from Mayor Denis Coderre, title Métropole de la réconciliation. 2 P A G E 2 THE NETWORK IN QUEBEC CITY The Montreal Urban Aboriginal Community Strategy NETWORK was invited to participate in a broad consultation organized by the Secrétariat aux affaires autochtones (SAA) in the preparation of a Government Action Plan for the Social Development of Indigenous Peoples. The meeting took place at Hotel PUR in Quebec City on January 25 th and 26 th 2017, and was chaired by Mr. Geoffrey Kelley, Minister responsible for Aboriginal Affairs of the Quebec provincial government. The aim was to consult with members of each First Nations and Inuit community in Quebec on a range of issues, including determining the needs of the communities and how the government s Action Plan can address them. This consultation aimed to enhance the work already undertaken in sectorial consultations. In total, 118 representatives from First Nations and Inuit communities, public Aboriginal organizations, community organizations, ministries, and observing organizations were present. Representatives present answered questions posed by the Government of Quebec on the following themes: Theme 1: Improving living conditions for Indigenous populations Theme 2: Fostering access to Quebec s public services Mikayla Cartwright represented the NETWORK steering committees at this meeting. WORKING COMMITTEES MEETING On December 9 th 2016, members from the NETWORK working committees and the steering committee met at the Native Friendship Centre of Montreal, to share information and collaborate transversally on specific projects or topics, as identified by each working committee. Here are the topics of discussion hosted by each committee: Circle of Education and Employability Committee: An awareness initiative for employers Health Committee: The collection of signatures for the petition for a holistic health centre building Circle of Care Subcommittee: Support for youth leaving care Justice Subcommittee: Service needs of Youth, and the role of the First People s Justice Centre of Montreal Homelessness Subcommittee: Collaboratively organizing cultural cohabitation events and Addressing addiction issues Communications committee: the role of this committee and the needs of the working committees T H E N E T W O R K S N E W S L E T T E R

The NETWORK is looking for dynamic people to join it's Communications Working Committee. We are looking for volunteers ready to discuss strategies on how to improve the NET- WORK s visibility and increase its membership. Candidates should have a good knowledge of the Aboriginal community, organizations and events in Montreal. They should also be available to participate in monthly committee meetings. (CAAM) travaille actuellement en collaboration avec Santé Canada pour fournir des soutien en santé mentale et affective aux anciens élèves des pensionnats indiens et à leur famille, avant, pendant et après leur participation aux démarches en lien avec la Convention de règlement, y compris au Paiement d'expérience commune et au Processus d'évaluation indépendant, ainsi qu'à ceux qui a pris part aux événements et activités commémoratives de la Commission de témoignage et réconciliation. Accès à soutien affectif ou aux services de soutien culturels (guérisseur traditionnel) est disponible en communiquant avec le CAAM en composant le (sans-frais: ) poste 2221, situé à 2001 boulevard St. Laurent, Montréal (Québec) H2X 2T3. Des services de soutien culturel sont disponibles chaque semaine 13h-17h les jeudis (premier arrivé, premier servi). Une ligne d'écoute téléphonique de Santé Canada offre du soutien aux anciens élèves des pensionnats indiens.
