We have incased our volumes by 8% over same period 2011 and our venues rose by 12% year-on-year. 3 rd 2012 focasts leave us confident that we will post positive sults this year. These satisfactory sults could only be achieved thanks to the dedication and professionalism of CMA CGM teams both at sea and on land, in Head Office, subsidiaries agencies and Terminals alike. The efficiency and quality of our vessels, our container fleet, our intermodal operations and our operating systems we also instrumental in our success. The near term futu does not look as promising with global trade showing signs of downward tnd on some key trades. However, we, at CMA CGM, have full confidence in our ability to minimize the negative impact of our economic environment in these trades. Always proactive, we a ady to implement new alternatives, open new services operated with the right vessels. In october, we will be ceiving the first 16,000 TEU vessel of a serie of 3 sister ships. This new tonnage will give us deployment opportunities to better meet market demand and further improve service liability. The project ensus a complete medical service for youngsters aged 11 to 25 suffering from a variety of illnesses, while introducing cultu as a fundamental element to aid the healing process, encompassing art, self-expssion, sport and education. The aim was to pool experiences and ideas, and to implement any measus quid to continue improving service quality. The agement allows the Group to focus on its co business, and offers Compagnie du Ponant the sources to maintain its growth momentum and take its international expansion to a new level through an ambitious business plan, while taining its identity, values and the talented people who have driven its success and forged its putation. CMA CGM subsidiaries Rail Link Europe, River Shuttle Containers, Land Transport International, Progeco, and TCX, with a combined total of 530 employees, have now joined Genmodal Transport (see box). Thanks to the expertise of these five entities each a specialist in its own domain the new organization has become the only operator in France to offer the option of combining road, rail and river transport. Because its five component companies a complementary, Genmodal Transport can offer shipping services that a neutral, efficient, and above all simplified. Our primary goal was to make life easy for our customers. 6 ENVIRONMENT ENVIRONNEMENT For several years, CMA CGM has been looking ahead to new environmental gulations, studying alternative energies that can power container vessels and keep emissions to a minimum. LNG liquefi ed natural gas is the most eco-friendly solution. / Depuis plusieurs années déjà, CMA CGM se prépa aux nouvelles réglementations en étudiant toutes les énergies d avenir envisageables pour assur la propulsion de ses navis tout en limitant les émissions de polluants. Every year, technological progss is a higher priority, and with oil incasingly scarce, the Group is working on innovative alternatives. After a caful view of nuclear, electric, wind, and other energies, LNG has emerged as the most promising option. One of the big advantages of this concept is its flexibility. It can run on LNG or fuel, so operators can choose the most cost-effective mode and still protect the environment and comply with emissions gulations, adds Jean-Baptiste Boutillier. Another advantage of LNG technology is that it can be used in existing vessels, simply by adapting the engine, installing the cryogenic system needed to supply it with pssurized gas, and adding isothermal tanks for the gas (which must be stod at -163 C). This technology will duce emissions sharply, says Jean-Baptiste Boutillier, who estimates a 23% drop in CO 2 emissions and a 92% duction in SOx emissions. NOx emissions a also expected to fall by 10-20%, depending on the vessel s operating speed. En collaboration avec CMA CGM qui a amené son expertise opérationnelle, DSME (Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering) a développé ses props solutions pour répond aux problématiques techniques, notamment de stockage et d alimentation du moteur en gaz. Côté moteur justement, MAN n en est plus à la théorie. Un prototype fonctionnant au GNL et adapté aux porte-conteneurs tourne sur un banc d essai. «Un des grands atouts de ce concept est sa dualité. En effet, il sera possible d utiliser soit le GNL, soit le fuel, et ainsi choisir le mode le plus économique tout en spectant l environnement et les réglementations sur les émissions», explique Jean-Baptiste Boutillier. Aut intérêt de cette technologie, elle pourra êt adaptée sur des navis déjà construits, en modifiant le moteur et en installant le système cryogénique d alimentation en gaz sous pssion (le GNL doit êt stocké dans des cuves isothermes à -163 C) ainsi que les cuves de stockage du gaz. «Cette technologie permettra de rédui de maniè très importante les émissions de gaz polluants», poursuit Jean-Baptiste Boutillier qui évoque une réduction de 23% des émissions de CO 2 et de 92% des émissions de SOx! 10 à 20% de réduction des émissions de NOx sont également escomptés selon la vitesse d exploitation du navi. The important thing is to maintain the vessel so that she never has to stop because of a technical problem. It s a window of time five hours to the days long, during which the vessel is in port for as long as it takes to load and unload cargo, explains Captain Cezar Macovei, a 27-year maritime veteran who has commanded CMA CGM vessels for five years. Though the average call lasts about 24 hours, the most modern ports have technology that can get a vessel in and out in just a few hours. It s the cargo that counts, says Arnaud Lavanant, and it s up to us the 38 engineers working on sho to adapt to the time allotted. It s a limited number of hours, and we have to make the best use of them to do mechanical inspections and pventive part placements based on the lifecycle of each part and to plenish the vessel s supply of food and consumables like fuel, oil and gase. Consider: it can take up to 10,000 metric tons of fuel to fill a container ship s tank, and 5,000-6,000 metric tons of luboil a quid befo each departu. Meanwhile, a checklist of action items must be completed during each call, and accomplishing all of these tasks successfully one at a time or simultaneously demands thorough advance pparation, with no room for improvising. While the captain is always sponsible for what happens onboard his vessel, at sea or in port, agents play a major role in making each call a success. As soon as the vessel has docked, the agent is among the first to come aboard, joining the captain in the ship s office. En plus des phases d approche toujours plus délicates et des opérations d accostage présentant des facteurs d usu accélérée, chaque escale présente donc une phase majeu pour un navi, son commandant et la compagnie

At CMA CGM I found the job I ally wanted: managing liner services. Hid by the Group in 2001, Sabrina worked in the North America lines, moving gradually from the Northern Europe market to the Mediterranean market, and finally to Asia market, first as an aa manager, then as a trade manager, and finally as a deputy line manager. It was an incdible adventu, she says. In 2007 she went on to serve as Line Manager for the Latin America lines and later managed lines for the west coast of South America, discovering new markets and new challenges. 12 In sponse to humanitarian and social challenges affecting many African countries, in 2012 CMA CGM Corporate Foundation offed the Group s know-how and expertise to two of France s largest NGOs Action Against Hunger and Doctors Without Borders. As part of Operation Containers of Hope, launched in summer 2012, CMA CGM will transport mo than 100 containers from France, Japan and Spain to programs run by the two NGOs across Africa. Amid emergencies in the Horn of Africa and in the Sahel, displaced populations, and other challenges, we can t igno the health and food crises affecting Africa s most vulnerable populations, s a i d Naïla Saadé, Psident of CMA CGM Corporate Foundation. Because childn a the first to suffer from malnutrition and inadequate ca, they need our help. I d like for CMA CGM Foundation to provide that help to Africa this year, as part of Operation Containers of Hope. To that end, hundds of metric tons of humanitarian equipment will be delived to fight malnutrition, improve access to water, and meet the healthca needs of thousands of African childn and adults. Shipments will include medical equipment, medicines, food and nutritional products, plus hydraulic equipment, hygiene and sanitation equipment, vehicles and communications equipment. And because a humanitarian crisis can t wait, the first containers we shipped in July even befo the partnership became official so that 47 metric tons of therapeutic biscuits could be supplied to Action Against Hunger s anti-malnutrition programs in Somalia.
