1 CARGO CONVERSION KIT Congratulations on purchasing the Cargo Conversion Kit An easy to install kit to allow you to convert your Classic model Chariot into a full-sized cargo trailer. Compatible Carriers: The Cargo Conversion Kit was designed for Classic series bicycle trailers made from 1997 to current model years. This includes the Caddie, Cabriolet, Chauffeur, and Corsaire models. Initial Assembly time: About 15 minutes. Tools Required: Two 7/16 (11mm) open end or adjustable wrenches and a Phillips drive screwdriver. Weight restriction: The maximum weight is 100 lb (45 Kg). Note: Any reference to orientation (left or right) is from the passenger s point of view while in the carrier. Important: When riding at night, use flashing lights. Lights can be attached to sewn on tabs on the rear of the water resistant cover. Components included: - A tough, reinforced floor insert - A water resistant cover with rear zipper entrance - 2 bolts 1 3/8 ( ) - 2 washers thick ( ) A. Releasing the Seat Attachments In order to install the floor insert, the carrier s seat can no longer be attached to the carrier s lower frame. The carrier s seat is attached at four locations on the frame, but can vary somewhat depending on model and model year. 1. From the rear of the carrier, looking in through the rear storage compartment, locate the 2 points on the carrier s lower frame where the seat is secured. A nut secures a strap with a brass colored grommet on both sides of the carrier. See figure With a pair of 7/16 (11mm) wrenches, remove the nut and on some carriers once the nut is removed, remove the aluminum bar. Depending on the year and model, the bolt could be a truss head requiring the use of the Philips screwdriver. The Bolt head could also point from the cargo compartment down through the carrier s frame. See figure Looking into the child compartment from the front of the carrier, remove the nuts located under the lower frame that secure the front of the seat. Remove the nut, the bolt, and the plastic seat risers. The Philips screw drive in the picture above points to the bolt head located under the padded foam seat front. See figure 3. 2 B. Securing the Seat 1. The carrier s seat will be loose at this stage. Either of the next two options will allow easier access to the storage compartment. Pull the seat through the front main opening, fold it as compact as possible, and place it on the carrier s roof. See figure The second option includes rolling the up the seat and securing it to the rear seat tube. See figure 5. Note: Bungee cords or rope can be used to secure the seat to the roof or to the rear seat tube. Figure 4 Figure 5 ] Seat tube is inside the carrier and runs across the upper rear corner. C. Securing the Floor Insert The floor insert has a front and a rear. The larger cutouts in the corners indicate the rear of the insert. There are also four straps at the rear and only two in the front. 1. Lay the floor insert in the carrier. Place the rear set of grommets over the rear bolts. If the bolts on your carrier go down through the lower frame, place the bolt through the grommet and the carrier s lower frame. If your carrier had an aluminum bar across the back of the seat, you will need to place the provided washers over each bolt. Secure a nut on the bolt ends. See figure 6 2. Align the front grommets with the holes in the lower frame where the front of the seat was once secured. Using the bolts supplied, insert the bolt down through the grommet and through the lower frame. Place a nut on the end of the bolt and tighten it securely. See figure 7. Note: Bolts must be securely fastened, but not over tightened. Bolt end must protrude through the nut. Figure 6 Figure 7 3. There are a number of straps that need to be tightened. It does not matter which straps get tightened first. This next step is best completed with the carrier slightly folded. There are two straps at the rear of the floor insert. Push these straps under the carrier s lower frame, between the frame and the carrier s fabric, then pull them over the frame. See Figure 8 4. There is a pair of ladder locks to secure these straps. 5. Insert the strap end up through the bottom of the ladder lock. Pull the strap up and towards yourself, then thread the strap end back down through the ladder lock. See figures 9 and 10. Figure 8 Figure 9 Figure 10

3 6. There is a strap in the rear corners of the floor insert that also need tightening. Wrap the straps around the vertical round tubes, towards the exterior of the cabin. Thread these straps through the buckles, then secure them by closing the buckle. See figure The front of the floor insert only has one strap in each corner. Wrap the strap end around the front vertical round tubes towards the exterior of the cabin. Lock the buckle by pushing it closed. See figure 12. Figure 11 Figure 12 D. Securing Cargo The floor insert has two pairs of D-rings to help secure cargo loads with bungee cords or rope. Your carrier can experience many bumps and sharp movements during use. Ensure that all contents are securely restrained and that the weight is distributed evenly. See figure 13. Figure 13 E. Installing the Water-Resistant Cover 1. Pull the rear of the water-resistant cover over the rear of the carrier. Align the rear opening of the cover with the opening of the carrier. See figure Pull the front of the cover over the carrier s plastic attachment brackets. See figure Slide the straps from the front of the carrier all the way under the carrier to the rear. Make sure the straps are underneath the carrier s axle. See figure 16. Figure 14 Figure 15 Figure 16

4 4. There are two buckles at the rear of the carrier, one for each strap. Open the buckle and slide the strap through it. While maintaining the strap tension with one hand close the buckle with the other. See figure There are 2 straps on the left side of the cover. The strap closest to the rear of the carrier should be attached behind the axle. These side straps should be placed under the straps running from the front to the rear. Tighten the side straps in the same manner as the rear straps. See figure The front strap should be positioned just behind the plastic attachment brackets. See figure 19. Figure 17 Figure 18 Figure 19 F. Installing the Trailer Hitch Arm Install the trailer hitch arm as instructed in the owner s manual. Be sure to install the safety pins and backup straps. 1. There is an opening in the front of the cover to insert the hitch arm. See figure On older carriers, be sure to insert the securing pin up through the attachment bracket and through trailer hitch arm. Be sure to loop the clip over the pin s end. See figure On newer trailer arms, you will need to thread the securing pin through the opening in the cover. See figure 22. Figure 20 Figure 21 Figure 22 G. Installing the Flag It is highly recommended that your safety flag be used at all times. There is a loop and a sleeve sewn onto both sides of the cover, but generally it should be inserted into the left hand side. Push the flag down to the base of the sleeve. See figure 23. Figure 23

5 TROUSSE DE TRANSFORMATION EN REMORQUE DE MATÉRIAL CLASSIC Nous vous félicitons d avoir acheté la trousse de conversion Cargo Une façon rapide et facile de convertir votre Chariot modèle Classic en une remorque pleine grandeur. Remorques compatibles : La trousse de conversion Cargo a été conçue pour les remorques de série Classic, du modèle de 1997 aux modèles actuels. Ceci comprend les modèles Caddie, Cabriolet, Chauffeur et Corsaire. Temps d assemblage initial : 15 minutes. Outils nécessaires : Deux clés à fourche ou ajustables de 7/16 po (11mm) et un tournevis cruciforme (Phillips). Limites de poids : Le poids maximal est de 45 kg (100 lbs). Nota : Toute référence faite à l orientation (gauche ou droite) est faite du point de vue du passager pendant qu il est à bord de la remorque. Important : Il ne faut jamais rouler a bicyclette le soir sans l éclairage approprié. Il y a deux points d attelage a l arrière de la toile de recouvrement pour monte des lumières. Pièces comprises : - Une insertion renforcie et rigide au plancher - Une toile de recouvrement hydrofuge avec entrée arrière - 2 boulons 1 3/8 po ( ) - 2 rondelles d une épaisseur de 0,120 ( ) A. Déclenchement des fixations du siège Afin d installer l insertion au plancher, le siège doit être détaché du cadre inférieur de la remorque. Le siège de la remorque est fixé à quatre endroits du cadre. 1. Du siège arrière de la remorque, regardant par le coffre de rangement arrière, trouvez l endroit où le siège est fixé. Un écrou sert à tenir en place une courroie dotée d un œillet de bronze, des deux côtés de la remorque. Voir figure À l aide d une paire de clés de 7/16 po., retirez l écrou et, sur certaines remorques, une fois que l écrou est retiré, vous devez retirer la barre d aluminium. Voir figure En regardant dans l habitacle pour enfant, du devant de la remorque, retirez les écrous qui retiennent le siège en place. Ceux-ci se trouvent sous le cadre inférieur. Retirez l écrou, le boulon et les élévateurs de plastique du siège. Le tournevis cruciforme (Phillips) figurant dans cette image pointe à la tête du boulon se trouvant en dessous du devant du siège cousiné. Voir figure 3. Vous en aurez besoin afin de pouvoir utiliser la remorque de nouveau pour transporter votre enfant.

6 B. Fixation du siège 1. Vous pouvez tirer le siège par l ouverture frontale principale, la plier de la façon la plus compacte, puis la placer sur le toit de la remorque. Voir figure Une autre solution pour éviter l empêchement de placer les bagages a l arrière de la remorque est de roulez le siège en prenant soin de le fixer au tube du siège arrière. Voir figure 5. Nota: Vous pouvez utiliser les élastiques ou de ficelle pour fixer le siège. Figure 4 Figure 5 ] Le tube du siège se trouve à l intérieur de la remorque et passe à travers le toit. C. Fixation de l insertion au plancher L insertion au plancher est dotée d un côté frontal et d un côté arrière. Les plus grandes entailles se trouvant aux coins représentent la partie arrière de l insertion. Vous trouverez aussi quatre courroies à l arrière et seulement deux à l avant. 1. Placez l insertion au plancher dans la remorque. Placez l ensemble arrière d œillets par-dessus les boulons. Si votre remorque est dotée d une barre d aluminium à travers le siège arrière, vous devrez placer une rondelle sur le boulon. Veuillez serrer un écrou aux extrémités des boulons. Il se peut que le boulon se pointe vers la plancher. Si vous avez une remorque avec cette situation, placez le boulon dans l œillet puis dans le cadre de la remorque. Voir figure Veuillez aligner les œillets aux trous se trouvant dans le cadre inférieur, où se trouvait jadis la fixation de la partie frontale du siège. En vous servant des boulons ci-joints, insérez le boulon par l œillet, et à travers le cadre inférieur. Placez un écrou à l extrémité du boulon et serrez le tout. Voir figure 7. Nota: Les boulons doivent être adéquatement serrés. Il ne faut pas les serrer démesurément. Figure 6 Figure 7

7 3. Un certain nombre de courroies doivent être serrées. L ordre dans lequel vous les serrez n a aucune importance. La prochaine étape est plus facile lorsque la remorque est légèrement pliée. Vous trouverez deux courroies à l arrière de l insertion au plancher. Tirez ces courroies sous le cadre inférieur de la remorque, entre le cadre et le tissu de la remorque, puis tirez-les par-dessus le cadre. Voir figure L insertion au plancher est dotée d une paire de clés de jambe afin de fixer les courroies à l arrière. Ces deux clés de jambe fonctionnent de la même façon. 5. Insérez la courroie en faisant passer l extrémité vers le haut, à travers la clé de jambe. Tirez la courroie vers le haut, en votre direction, puis faites repasser la courroie vers le bas, dans la clé de jambe. Voir figure 9 et 10. Figure 8 Figure 9 Figure Une courroie se trouve aux coins arrières de l insertion au plancher. Celle-ci doit aussi être serrée. Tournez la courroie autour du tube, vers l extérieur de l habitacle. Passez ces courroies par les boucles, puis serrez-les en fermant la boucle. Voir figure Le devant de l insertion au plancher ne possède qu une courroie aux quatre coins. Enveloppez l extrémité de la courroie autour du tube vers l extérieur de l habitacle. Verrouillez la boucle en la poussant en position fermée. Voir figure 12. Figure 11 Figure 12 D. Fixation des bagages L insertion au plancher est dotée de deux anneaux en forme de D qui ont pour but de vous aider à fixer les bagages en place. Il est possible que votre remorque subisse de durs coups en raison des turbulences ou des mouvements soudains en cours d usage. Veillez à ce que tout bagage soit fixé en toute sécurité et que le poids soit distribué également. Voir figure 13. Figure 13

8 E. Installing the Water-Resistant Cover 1. Tirez la partie arrière de la toile hydrofuge par-dessus la partie arrière de la remorque. Veuillez aligner l ouverture de la toile à l ouverture de la remorque. Voir figure Tirez le devant de la toile sur le verrou de plastique de la remorque. Voir figure Glissez les courroies de l avant de cette dernière complètement en dessous de la remorque, jusqu à l arrière. Veillez à ce que les courroies se trouvent en dessous de l essieu de la remorque. Voir figure 16. Figure 14 Figure 15 Figure Deux boucles se trouvent à l arrière de la remorque, dont une pour chaque courroie. Ouvrez la boucle et glissez-y la courroie. Tout en gardant une tension sur la courroie d une main, fermez la boucle de l autre main. Voir figure Deux courroies se trouvent sur les côtés de la toile. La courroie se trouvant le plus près à l arrière de la remorque devrait être fixée à l arrière de l essieu. Toutes les courroies latérales devraient être placées sous les courroies qui partent du devant de la remorque vers l arrière. Serrez toutes les courroies latérales de la même façon que vous le feriez pour les courroies arrières. Voir figure La courroie frontale devrait être placée juste derrière les verrous de plastique. 9 F. Installation de la trousse de Vélo Installez la trousse de vélo, tel que le mentionne votre guide de l utilisateur. Installez toutes les goupilles de sûreté et toutes les courroies d appui comme vous l auriez fait avant d acheter la trousse de conversion Cargo. 1. Le devant de la toile est doté d une ouverture qui sert à y insérer une trousse de conversion. Voir figure Sur les plus anciens modèles de remorques, il est possible de plier la partie de la toile, exposant ainsi le verrou de plastique. Veuillez vous assurer d insérer la goupille de sûreté dans le verrou et par la trousse de vélo. Veillez à boucler l attache par-dessus l extrémité de la goupille. Voir figure Dans le cas de certaines nouvelles trousses de vélo, vous aurez besoin de faire passer la goupille de sûreté par l ouverture de la toile. Voir figure 22. Figure 20 Figure 21 Figure 22 G. Installation du fanion Il est fortement recommandé d utiliser le fanion en tout temps. Un manchon se trouve des deux côtés de la toile. Insérez le fanion dans le manchon approprié et poussez-le vers la base du manchon. Voir figure 23. Figure 23
