10 LE VERBE «PRENDRE» (TO TAKE) An other useful verb. When French people are having a meal, they don't use «avoir» as English people do. 12 PHONÉTIQUE : LES CONSONNES FINALES MUETTES Ecoutez : un chat gris et blanc très doux Final consonnants (the T, the S, the T, the C, the S and the X) are silent in this example. Why? The basic rule of French pronunciation is that the final consonant is not pronounced but there are many exceptions. The letters B, C, F, K, L, Q, and R are usually pronounced at the end of a word. Tip: Since B, K, and Q are rare as final consonants, some people find it helpful to use the word CaReFuL to remember the most common of the usually pronounced final consonants.
