2 2 You are advised to spend 45 minutes answering the questions in this booklet. QUESTION ONE: A Year in Montreal Read the extract below from Louise s report about her year in Montreal. Answer the questions that follow in English in the spaces provided. You will be rewarded for providing: all the information requested detailed answers. J ai passé une année au Canada comme étudiante et j ai eu la chance d habiter à Montréal, une belle ville de langue française avec beaucoup à offrir. A mon arrivée en janvier, Montréal était sous la neige et pour moi c était merveilleux de la voir comme un drap blanc qui couvrait la ville. J ai pensé qu à cause de la neige il y aurait des problèmes, mais j avais tort. J ai appris qu à Montréal, pour la plupart, la vie de tous les jours continue en hiver, car on prend le métro (au lieu de la voiture), tous les bâtiments sont bien chauffés et on met des vêtements épais quand on sort. Au printemps et en été les gens de Montréal savent comment s amuser en participant à beaucoup de fêtes dehors par exemple le Festival de Jazz et le Festival Juste pour Rire. Pour moi la fête la plus agréable était les Francofolies de Montréal une fête de la musique française. Presque chaque soir pendant cette fête je suis allée en ville avec ma famille et nous avons passé des heures en écoutant les chansons et en dansant dans les rues. Le centre ville de Montréal m a beaucoup frappé à cause de la ville sous terre. Je l ai trouvée très pratique, parce que le climat ne gêne plus. Une fois descendu du métro, ce n est pas la peine de monter jusqu à la rue, car on trouve tout ce qu on veut en bas. Pendant mon année au Canada j ai visité d autres villes bien connues et intéressantes, mais pour moi Montréal reste la meilleure. Comme disent les posters partout «Montréal, je me rappelle». Note: l acteur = actor SYLVIE Je vais au cinéma à peu près deux fois par mois. J y vais pour me changer des idées, pour m amuser et aussi pour apprendre un peu plus sur la vie des autres. Mon acteur préféré est Daniel Auteuil. Je trouve qu il est un des meilleurs acteurs français actuels. J ai adoré son film Le Huitième Jour, d où j ai appris la leçon que de réussir sa vie professionnelle n est pas ce qu il y a de plus important dans la vie et qu il vaut mieux rire que de prendre les choses trop au sérieux. 5 5 FRANCIS Le cinéma? Ça m est égal. Ça va quand il n y a rien de mieux à faire. En plus le prix des billets ne cesse de monter et je déteste des queues. Si j avais le choix, je choisirais un film comme Chocolat, avec Juliette Binoche et Johnny Depp, puisque la vie dans les petits villages français de l ancien temps m intéresse.
