Promoting mutual aid, breaking isolation, and stopping the cycle of poverty for families and youth: these are just some of the daily challenges for the agencies and projects that Centraide supports. Overall, our actions as a social investor improve the lives of one out of seven people in Greater Montreal. I would like to acknowledge the immense support of two of these partners in particular: Claude Séguin, who is leaving as Chair of the Major Donors Circle after an incredible four-year commitment, and the Honourable Michael M. Fortier, who is finishing his three-year term of office as President of the Leaders Circle. 5 Partenaire de Centraide depuis près de 15 ans, Claude a assumé diverses fonctions au sein du conseil d administration et de nombreux comités, dont le comité de réflexion philanthropique qu il copréside aujourd hui. Son engagement lui a d ailleurs valu le prix Michèle Thibodeau-DeGuire, un honneur fort bien mérité. Centraide a eu la chance de trouver un successeur à sa mesure en la personne de Lino A. Saputo, Jr., nouveau président du Cercle des Grands donateurs. Quant à Michael, il a mis son esprit de conviction au service de Centraide pour fidéliser les membres du Cercle des Leaders et en inspirer de nouveaux grâce à une équipe de porte-parole aussi dynamiques que lui. Les témoignages qu ils ont livrés auprès de donateurs potentiels dans les entreprises ont rehaussé le nombre de Leaders de manière substantielle. Les deux coprésidents qui prennent la relève de Michael Guy LeBlanc et David L. McAusland entendent d ailleurs poursuivre dans cette voie. Les résultats de leur contribution et l effet collectif de la générosité des Grands donateurs et des donateurs Leaders sont impressionnants. Ensemble, ils ont fait don de 20,8 M$, soit 37 % de tous les dons récoltés en Centraide doit ce succès aux précieux alliés que sont Claude Séguin et Michael Fortier ainsi qu à leur relève. A Centraide partner for nearly 15 years, Claude has performed various roles on the Board of Directors and many committees, including the strategic committee on philanthropy, which he currently co-chairs. His involvement earned him the Michèle Thibodeau- DeGuire Award, an honour that is well deserved. Centraide is also lucky to have found a worthy successor to Claude in Lino A. Saputo, Jr., who will take over as Chair of the Major Donors Circle. As for Michael, he has used his strong belief in Centraide to strengthen the loyalty of existing Leaders Circle members and has inspired new ones to give thanks to a team of spokespeople as dynamic as he is. The talks they have given to potential donors at companies have substantially increased our number of Leader Donors. The two Co-Presidents taking over for Michael Guy LeBlanc and David L. McAusland intend to continue on this successful path. The results of their contributions and the collective impact of the generosity of Major Donors and Leader Donors are impressive. Together, they donated $20.8 million, or 37% of all donations collected in Centraide owes this achievement to invaluable allies such as Claude Séguin and Michael Fortier and to their successors. They have a particular interest in homework assistance, which is a tremendous starting point to meet the various needs of youth in difficulty. A volunteer since 2007, first with the Board of Directors and then on a territorial committee, Ms. Gagnon realized how well Centraide lives up to its motto, as it truly allows people to come together to help. C est aussi vrai pour notre fondation, car non seulement nous appuyons Centraide, mais nous nous fions à lui pour orienter nos dons en matière d enfance et d éducation.» When we visit community agencies, we are always impressed by their approach in order to connect with vulnerable individuals. By investing in self-sufficiency, agency staff help people find the best solutions for their specific realities. Each neighbourhood has a different issue that predominates: for one sector it s a high dropout rate, for another it s homelessness. Centraide s territorial analyses and thorough allocations process are therefore vitally important. Centraide is also vital to our foundation, as we not only support Centraide but also count on it to direct our donations in the areas of childhood development and education. Fortier has never forgotten how his parents sought to help underprivileged families. The outgoing President of the Leaders Circle and a volunteer on the Major Donors Cabinet, one of his major successes has been in recruiting new Leader Donors. As the parents of six children, we are particularly concerned about the needs of vulnerable families. Centraide s work in this area is directly aligned with our values. Ces dernières années, tom s est investi comme bénévole à Centraide, entre autres en instaurant une campagne Centraide au cours de sa carrière à Sports experts. il conserve de merveilleux souvenirs des témoignages que firent des porte-parole d organismes communautaires. margot a toujours connu Centraide, car ses parents l ont initiée dès son jeune âge à red feather, l une des fédérations à l origine de Centraide. Pour elle, rien ne vaut la sensation qu on éprouve à donner. tom and MarGot Quinn, WITH THEIR CAT tynda An active couple, Tom and Margot Quinn both grew up with parents who volunteered and now, their two sons have followed in their footsteps. Tom has held different roles as a Centraide volunteer in recent years. He was responsible for implementing a Centraide campaign during his tenure at Sports Experts, and has fond memories of the testimonials given by agency speakers. Margot always knew Centraide, as her parents introduced her at a young age to Red Feather, one of Centraide s founding organizations. When I was approached by one of my friends, Pierre Boivin, to become a Centraide volunteer, I accepted because I was already convinced that the money they raise goes to the right agencies and the right people. After hearing agency spokespeople tell their stories, I realized even more so that Centraide represents the best social investment and provides the greatest value for our donations. Margot and I truly believe that if more people understood what Centraide does, then more people would give.
