1 The Wednesday File April 20, 2016 Student French Compositions As we are heading to the end of the year, the students have been focusing on developing their writing skills using new vocabulary and grammatical structures. Here are some examples: In grade 5, Thomas L. wrote about: How to get to my place?, Tu es à Jack Astor. Tu vas tout droit et tu tournes à droite sur la rue A. Tu continues tout droit et tu passes devant la rue B. Après, tu tournes à droite à la rue C et tu continues tout droit jusqu à la rue D. Là, tu tournes à droite à la rue E, tu continues tout droit et tu vas à droite dans la rue F. J habite au numéro X. In grade 6, Arjun R. wrote about a garage sale organized by the school Anatole France to buy tickets to go to La Réunion, Les élèves font un vide-grenier. Ils vendent des poupées, des peluches, un globe terrestre et des jeux élecrtroniques. Un journaliste fait une interview avec Victor pour la radio locale et le journal de la ville. Il y a aussi des policiers, un balayeur, un caméraman, un autre journaliste, un photographe et des promeneurs. L argent que les enfants gagnent sert à acheter des billets pour faire un voyage à la Réunion et à acheter des cadeaux pour leurs correspondants, les anciens camarades de Jean-Michel, le nouvel élève dans leur classe cette année. Thomas L. wrote, Dans la classe de monsieur Duval, il y a un nouvel élève. Il s appelle Jean-Michel. Il est réunionnais. Les élèves dans la classe de monsieur Duval organisent un vide-grenier parce qu ils font un voyage à la Réunion. In grade 7, Lucas A. wrote about a party, Natacha s est couchée très tard samedi soir. Elle a organisé une fête et elle a invité tous ses amis. Pour s amuser, ils se sont baignés dans la piscine et Georges n a pas arrêté de raconter des blagues. Dimanche matin à 10 heures, Johnny le fiancé de Natacha a téléphoné et elle lui a tout raconté. Il est un peu jaloux!

2 Matthew B. wrote about a walk-a-thon to raise funds to buys dogs for blind people, Les élèves du Collège Simone De Beauvoir ont participé au marchaton pour recueillir des fonds. Avec cet argent, les élèves ont acheté des chiens pour personnes aveugles. Dans un marchaton, un parrain ou une marraine paye une certaine somme d argent par kilomètre parcouru. Sébastien a eu 1 euro par km. Dans leur collège, ils ont gagné 2,540 euros. Mitchell B. wrote about a video competition to promote their school, Les élèves de 5e du Collège Bertolt Brecht de Frankfort ont participé au festival de vidéo scolaire de Strasbourg. Ils ont fait une vidéo scolaire avec Mme Butz, mais leur film n a pas gagné. Ils ont écrit un film plein d humour et de situations insolites. Les élèves ont reçu le prix de la classe la plus drôle et la plus creative I continue to be quite proud of the efforts in French from the boys at Northmount. As seen from the Arts Oratoire evening, the students are developing exemplary skills in the spoken word using French. Not to be outdone, the above examples demonstrate a developing proficiency in written French. 4 Northmount School for Boys Parents Association Call for Nominations April 13 th 2016 Have you started filling out your Nomination form yet? The Northmount School for Boys Parents Association (NMSPA) is looking for motivated parents to join the Executive Committee. We need visionaries, event planners, communication gurus, number crunchers, social butterflies, and anyone else in between! Positions open for nominations include: 5 Executive Officers, including: President Vice-President Secretary/Committee Coordinator Communication Officer Treasurer 7 Executives-At-Large, who may serve as Chairs of the following committees: Education Fundraising Outreach School Events Social & Welcome We will continue to need parents to serve as Class Representatives, who will liaise between their class, the school, and the Parents Association Executive. However, Class Representatives do not need to go through the Nomination process. Nominations close on April 20 th 2016, so don t delay! We d love to have as many families represented on the Parents Association Executive as possible, so please consider nominating yourself or someone you feel would be an asset to the Association. Nomination forms can be dropped off in the blue box on the Reception Desk marked NMSPA Nomination Committee. Voting for the Executive will take place at the Annual General Meeting on June 7 th 2016 at 7:00pm at the school. 6 Denim and Bling Dress Down Day Friday, April 29th On Friday April 29th, Northmount is having its monthly dress down and pizza lunch day. In support of our upcoming gala, the boys are challenged to come to school on Friday April 29th in their best and most creative "Denim and Bling" outfit. Exemplars are located at the front of the school. A house point prize will be awarded to the top 3 best dressed from JK to grade 3 and grades 4 to 8 as decided by our judging team. So get those shiny sequins and your best denim out, and we look forward to seeing all the boys sparkle in their "Denim and Bling" outfit. Spring Play Prop Request We are very pleased to announce that this year's play will be "Robin Hood". Currently, we are trying to track down some props for the play.
