3 L T édition 2018 des Sommets accorde une place significative à la relève. Ainsi, en plus de nos sélections où figurent les œuvres prometteuses de nouveaux venus, de notre coup de chapeau à la jeune animation indépendante américaine et du visuel signé par le jeune artiste autochtone Raymond Caplin, notre événement L Avenir mettra en évidence les nouveaux projets et les nouvelles initiatives. Cette édition des Sommets se veut aussi performative, s aventurant même vers le théâtre, ainsi que l indiquent la leçon de cinéma théâtralisée de Clyde Henry Productions et le spectacle Winsor et Gertie de Donald Crafton. Et on n oublie pas la famille : notre programmation jeunesse bonifiée et nos activités pour tous les âges le confirment. Nous serons même invités à danser grâce à Montréal Gaymers qui organise pour nous une soirée Just Dance! he 2018 edition of the Sommets has made significant room for the next generation. Devenue adulte, elle décide d enquêter pour découvrir ce qui s est passé et comprendre l implication réelle de Chris dans un conflit manipulé par des intérêts souvent inavoués. Anja Kofmel was his cousin. As a little girl, she used to admire this handsome young man; now a grown-up woman, she decides to investigate his story, trying to understand what really was the involvement of Chris in the conflict. Born in a not-so-conventional family, Paola grows up between Ecuador and Colombia and finds herself unable to fit in any mold. Mi-lecture publique, mi-performance, cette représentation de 55 minutes à deux personnages, pleine d humour et d esprit, inclut la spectaculaire restauration du film Gertie réalisée par la Cinémathèque québécoise et l Office national du film du Canada avec la collaboration de l Université Notre-Dame (États-Unis). Avec Stéphane Crête (Winsor McCay) et Sébastien René (Robert, fils de Winsor McCay). Composition musicale et accompagnement au piano : Gabriel Thibaudeau. The theatrical production, Winsor and Gertie, introduces McCay to new audiences, showcases his talent as an illustrator, and highlights the significant contribution of variety shows to the development of early animation. Part public reading, part performance, this 55-minute, two-character presentation full of humour and wit includes the spectacular restoration of Gertie, which was undertaken by the Cinémathèque québécoise and the National Film Board of Canada, in collaboration with the University of Notre Dame in the United States. Récemment Robert Marcel Lepage a mis en musique le film d animation Le Grand méchant renard et autres contes du duo Benjamin Renner et Patrick Imbert. On lui doit aussi des collaborations fructueuses avec Pierre Hébert, Francine Desbiens, Inès Sedan, Priit et Olga Pärn, Co Hoedeman, Masoud Raouf et plusieurs autres. The René-Jodoin Award, which was created in 2015 by the Sommets du cinéma d animation and the Cinémathèque québécoise, recognizes a remarkable, influential and active figure in Canadian animation. 32 EXPOSITIONS EXHIBITIONS 21 > 25 NOV RECONSTRUCTION DE GERTIE LE DINOSAURE RECONSTRUCTION OF GERTIE THE DINOSAUR FOYER LUCE-GUILBEAULT Winsor McCay a créé la première version de Gertie le dinosaure pour ses numéros comiques dans les théâtres de variété où il interagissait sur scène avec le célèbre dinosaure projeté sur le grand écran. La restauration de cette version disparue est un travail colossal et fut possible grâce à la collaboration de plusieurs personnes dont David L. Nathan, Donald Crafton, l ONF et la Cinémathèque. Il a fallu reproduire près de 250 dessins manquants. Ce sont ces dessins, créés de la main de Luc Chamberland que nous vous proposons d admirer, ainsi qu un dessin original de Winsor McCay de la collection de la Cinémathèque. Le cinéaste décédé en 2013 s est mérité de nombreux prix et hommages. Certains de ses films sont régulièrement cités parmi les plus importants de l histoire du cinéma d animation. Cette exposition regroupant des dessins d animation de tous ses films, des trophées et des photographies a été rendue possible grâce à la générosité de l Atelier Frédéric Back et de la Société Radio-Canada. The anti-war activist, humanist and environmentalist Frédéric Back left behind a tremendous body of work celebrating the beauty of life. Depuis près de vingt ans, il est le directeur artistique de Kabinett ad Co., une plateforme de travail destinée aux artistes d horizons variés ayant un intérêt pour le travail corporel. Il collabore avec plusieurs chorégraphes et compagnies, par exemple en France avec la compagne Catherine Diverrès et Mathilde Monnier. Ses films ont été montrés dans le monde entier et ont reçu de nombreux prix. TRESPASS s était mérité le Grand Prix des Sommets de Born in 1966 in Vienna, Paul Wenninger is a freelance dancer, author of choreographic works, musician and film maker with a focus on pixilation and animation. For close to 20 years he as been the artistic director of Kabinett ad Co., a working platform for interdisciplinary projects with a focus on the body. Collaborations with various choreographers and companies, e.g. in France with Cie. Catherine Diverrès and Mathilde Monnier. His works have been shown internationally and received several awards. Son oeuvre se démarque par une grande créativité de dessin et un humour narquois. Sean Buckelew présentera ses trois principaux films et parlera de la réalité entourant la décision de devenir un animateur indépendant aux États-Unis. Il abordera également les concepts et lignes directrices élaborés pour ses films. Sean Buckelew est un cinéaste d animation vivant en Californie. Il est né à Berkeley et a obtenu un baccalauréat de la School of the Art Institute de Chicago et une maîtrise de CalArts en animation expérimentale. Il est membre du collectif en ligne Late Night Work Club, coprésentateur du balado Movie Buddies et un programmateur au GLAS Animation Festival.. 37 ACTIVITÉS PROFESSIONNELLES NETWORKING EVENTS 25 NOV 12H30-12:30PM DISCUSSION : LA RECONSTRUCTION DE GERTIE PANEL: GERTIE S RECONSTRUCTION Les artisans de l Office national du film du Canada ont abattu un travail prodigieux pour reconstruire Gertie the Dinosaur dans sa version d origine, conçue pour la scène. Le maître d oeuvre Éloi Champagne, directeur technique à l ONF, a ainsi dirigé les travaux de nettoyage et d étalonnage, tandis que le cinéaste Luc Chamberland s est accaparé du style élégant de Winsor McCay pour créer de toutes pièces près de 250 dessins manquants. Les artisans de la reconstruction présentent le travail ayant été effectué. The Canadian National Film Board artisans have worked a lot to reconstruict Gertie the Dinosaur in its original version, created for the stage. The master craftsman Éloi Champagne, artistic director of the NFO, has directed the cleaning and calibration works, while filmmaker Luc Chamberland has used the elegant Winsor McCay s style to create around 250 missing drawings. David Seitz, Claire Brognez (Québec), Alice Lahourcade, Clémence Bouchereau (France), Naomi van Niekerk (Afrique du Sud) et Ana Chubinidze (Géorgie) présentent le résultat de leur travail. La résidence de mentorat en cinéma d animation de la Cinémathèque québécoise est organisée en partenariat avec le Consulat général de France, l Office national du film du Canada et les mécènes Jean-Philippe Fauteux et Marthe Cousineau.
