2 Electricité Lampe écologique 1 Généralités 1.1 But de l appareil La lampe écologique est conçue pour illustrer expérimentalement la production d énergie électrique par transformation de l énergie mécanique. Elle met en évidence de façon très explicite et permet d appréhender qualitativement le fait que l énergie mécanique à fournir à l alternateur est d autant plus grande que l énergie électrique qu il doit produire est plus importante. 1.2 Description L action mécanique est réalisée par une manivelle qui met en rotation l alternateur par l intermédiaire d un ensemble d engrenages qui démultiplient le mouvement. Le générateur est relié à un culot E10 de lampe et, en dérivation, à une prise à laquelle se branche un câble muni de pinces crocodiles à connecter à un oscilloscope ou à une interface pour une exploitation du signal fourni. On peut brancher ou non la lampe à incandescence et comparer les efforts musculaires qu il faut fournir pour assurer la rotation de l alternateur. Remarque : Par l intermédiaire du câble, on peut brancher un petit moteur et montrer la réversibilité électromagnétique qui existe entre un alternateur et un moteur. 1.3 Composition Manivelle Système d entraînement par engrenages Alternateur Culot E10 Ampoule à incandescence 6 V ; 0,5 A Prise (+ cordon de raccordement) Poignée FRANÇAIS 1

3 Electricité Lampe écologique 1.4 Caractéristiques techniques L alternateur et le système d entraînement par engrenages sont placés dans un boîtier en plastique transparent muni d une poignée, ce qui assure une parfaite visibilité du mécanisme et une bonne préhension de l ensemble. La manivelle en plastique est clipsée à l axe solidaire de l engrenage d entraînement. La lampe à incandescence vissée au culot E10 a pour caractéristiques : 6 V ; 0,5 A. Les dimensions de la lampe écologique sont : 160 x 110 x 40 mm 2 Mise en œuvre 2.1 Production d énergie électrique par transformation de l énergie mécanique Expérience avec une ampoule vissée On branche la lampe à incandescence aux bornes de l alternateur. On met l alternateur en rotation en lui fournissant de l énergie mécanique (effort musculaire). On observe que la lampe s allume quel que soit le sens de rotation de la bobine ce qui signifie qu elle reçoit de l énergie électrique. Ainsi l énergie mécanique reçue par l alternateur est convertie en d énergie électrique Expérience sans ampoule vissée On dévisse la lampe à incandescence et on met l alternateur en rotation. On constate que l effort musculaire -et donc l énergie mécanique fournie- est moins important que dans l expérience Conclusion L énergie mécanique qu il faut fournir dépend de l énergie électrique consommée par le récepteur (ici, la lampe à incandescence). 4 Electricité Lampe écologique 2.2 Mise en évidence de la dépendance entre l énergie mécanique produite et l énergie électrique consommée On peut mettre en évidence l énergie mécanique à produire pour générer l énergie électrique consommée par l ampoule à incandescence en accrochant une masse marquée (voisine de 200 g) sur la manivelle. La manivelle étant en position basse, on la tourne pour la positionner horizontalement : Dans l expérience, avec une ampoule vissée, la manivelle reste dans sa position ce qui signifie que l énergie de position de la masse marquée est insuffisante pour vaincre les frottement et produire de l énergie électrique. Dans l expérience, sans ampoule vissée, la manivelle tourne sous l effet du poids de la masse marquée. L énergie de position est suffisante pour vaincre les frottements. 2.3 Tension générée aux bornes de l alternateur On branche les bornes de l alternateur à une interface reliée à l ordinateur par l intermédiaire du câble fourni, on tourne la manivelle et on obtient : FRANÇAIS 3

5 Electricité Lampe écologique On observe que : 1. La tension à vide est en moyenne plus grande que celle en charge à vitesse de rotation sensiblement identique. En charge, l énergie mécanique est transformée par l alternateur en rotation, d une part, en énergie électrique et, d autre part, en énergie thermique. Cette perte par effet Joule a pour effet d abaisser la tension. 2. La tension électrique produite est variable mais elle est toujours soit positive soit négative selon le sens de rotation de l alternateur. Cela est dû à la présence d un collecteur qui change le sens de la tension à chaque demi tour de bobine. 2.4 De la lampe au moteur : réversibilité alternateur - moteur L énergie électrique produite par l alternateur peut être transformée également en énergie mécanique dans un moteur. On branche un moteur muni d une hélice par l intermédiaire du câble. La chaîne énergétique obtenue est : Énergie mécanique (effort musculaire + manivelle) énergie électrique (alternateur) Énergie mécanique (moteur). Cette expérience permet de montrer la réciprocité électromagnétique qui existe entre l alternateur et le moteur : - Un courant dans un champ magnétique produit un déplacement du conducteur (loi de Laplace) : c est le principe du moteur. - Le déplacement d un conducteur dans un champ magnétique produit un courant induit, ce qui fait que le conducteur devient un générateur : c est le principe de l alternateur. Le moteur et l alternateur sont des dipôles identiques, qui se traduisent par le schéma suivant : FRANÇAIS 4

8 Electricity Ecological Lamp 1 General 1.1 Purpose of the appliance The ecological lamp is designed to illustrate by experiment, the production of electrical energy through the conversion of mechanical energy. It demonstrates this in explicit fashion, allowing a qualitative understanding of the fact the mechanical energy which must be supplied to the alternator must increase as the electrical energy that must be produced also increases. 1.2 Description The mechanical action is generated by a handle which rotates the alternator using a set of gears to gear down the movement. The generator is linked to an E10 lamp holder, with a branch to a socket to which a cable with crocodile clips is plugged in, to connect an oscilloscope or and interface, to analyse the signal supplied. An incandescent lamp may or may not be plugged in to compare the muscular efforts required to rotate the alternator. Remark: Using the cable, it is possible to connect a small motor and demonstrate the electromagnetic reversibility between an alternator and a motor. 1.3 Composition Handle Gear drive system Alternator E10 lamp base 6 V ; 0.5A incandescent lamp Socket (+ connecting cable) Handle ENGLISH 7

9 Electricity Ecological Lamp 1.4 Technical characteristics The alternator and the gear drive system are placed in a transparent plastic housing equipped with a handle, to ensure total visibility of the mechanism and satisfactory grip of the assembly. The plastic handle is clipped to the stud which forms part of the drive gears. The incandescent lamp screwed into the E10 lamp holder has the following characteristics: 6 V ; 0.5A. The dimensions of the ecological lamp are: 160 x 110 x 40 mm 2 Instructions for use 2.1 Production of electrical energy by conversion of mechanical energy Experiment with a screwed in lamp Connect the incandescent lamp to the alternator terminals. Rotate the alternator by supplying mechanical energy (muscular effort). Observe the lamp light up irrespective of the direction of rotation of the coil, which indicates it is receiving electrical energy. Thus the mechanical energy received by the alternator is converted to electrical energy Experiment without screwed in lamp Unscrew the incandescent lamp and rotate the alternator. It can be observed the muscular effort hence the mechanical energy supplied is less than in experiment Conclusion The mechanical energy that must be supplied depends on the electrical energy consumed by the receiving device (here, the incandescent lamp). 10 Electricity Ecological Lamp 2.2 Demonstrating the dependency between the mechanical energy produced and the electrical energy consumed It is possible to demonstrate the amount of mechanical energy needed to generate the electrical energy consumed by the incandescent lamp by hooking a marked weight (approximately 200 g) on the handle. With the handle in the low position, turn to position it horizontally: In experiment, with a lamp screwed in, the handle remains in this position, which means the energy of the position of the marked weight is insufficient to overcome friction and generate electrical energy. In experiment, without a screwed in lamp, the handle turns under the effect of the weight of the marked weight. The position energy is sufficient to overcome friction. 2.3 Voltages generated at the alternator terminals Connect the alternator terminals to an interface linked to a computer using the cable supplied, turn the handle and the following is obtained : u_without_lamp_ u_with_lamp (v) off-load voltage voltage under load ENGLISH 9

11 Electricity Ecological Lamp It can be observed that : 1. The off-load voltage is on average greater than the on-load voltage at the same rotation speed. Under load, the mechanical energy is converted by the rotating alternator, partly into electrical energy and partly into heat energy. The loss by the Joule effect reduces the voltage. 2. The electrical voltage produced is variable but is always either positive or negative, depending on the direction of rotation of the alternator. This is caused by the presence of the collector which changes the direction of the voltage at each half rotation of the coil. 2.4 From the lamp to the motor: alternator motor reversibility The electrical energy produced by the alternator can also be converted to mechanical energy in a motor. Connect a motor equipped with a propeller using the cable. The energy chain obtained is: Mechanical effort (muscular effort + handle) electrical energy (alternator) Mechanical energy (motor). This experiment allows demonstrating the electromagnetic reciprocity of the alternator and the motor: - A current in a magnetic field causes movement of the conductor (Laplace s law): this is the principle of the motor. - Movement of a conductor in a magnetic field produces an induced current, which means the conductor becomes a generator: this is the principle of the alternator. The motor and the alternator are identical dipoles, as manifested in the following diagram: ENGLISH 10
