2 LES AMIS DE LE CORBUSIER Le 12 mai 2008 Chère Madame, Cher Monsieur, Depuis plusieurs semaines, une pétition anonyme intitulée «Pour la sauvegarde du site de Ronchamp» circule sans autre explication. L association «Œuvre Notre-Dame du Haut», responsable de ce projet, qui en 1950, sous l impulsion de François Mathey et de l abbé Ledeur, et avec le soutien actif d Eugène Claudius-Petit, alors ministre de la reconstruction et de l urbanisme, a commandé et fait construire la chapelle par Le Corbusier, a répondu à cette initiative par une pétition intitulée «Ronchamp : réhabilitation du site de Bourlémont». Il s agit bien de réhabiliter le site de Ronchamp en supprimant l affreuse maison d accueil, son parking bituminé, et en assurant une présence permanente, comme dans d autres hauts-lieux de religion et de culture, Vézelay par exemple, grâce à la venue d une petite fraternité de 12 sœurs clarisses. Elles s installeront dans un habitat à demi enterré, en contrebas de la colline et de la zone de pèlerinage, à une distance moyenne de 100 mètres à l ouest de la chapelle. Conformément à la commande, il est fait preuve de la plus grande humilité par rapport cette œuvre exceptionnelle. Depuis deux ans, maîtres d ouvrage et maître d œuvre ont fait profondément évoluer le projet à partir des remarques formulées par les différents intervenants consultés. «Les Amis de Le Corbusier», association créée dès le mois de mai 1968, comme Le Corbusier l avait souhaité, a décidé de participer à la meilleure connaissance de ce projet notamment en exposant les plans et maquettes lors de la rencontre des 25 et 26 avril à la Maison du Brésil. 3 LES AMIS DE LE CORBUSIER Dear Sir / Madam, Recently, an anonymous petition called For the safeguard of Ronchamp s site is circulating without any explanation. The association Oeuvre Notre Dame du Haut, which in 1950 thanks to the will of François Mathey and the abbot Ledeur, and the support of Eugène Claudius-Petit, at that time minister for the reconstruction and the urbanism, commissioned the construction of the chapel to Le Corbusier, answered this petition with another petition called Ronchamp, the rehabilitation of Bourlémont s site. Our aim is to improve the Ronchamp site removing the dreadful entrance lodge, the asphalted car park, and assuring through the arrival of a small community of 12 Clarisse nuns a permanent presence, like in other places of devotion (Vézelay is a good example). They will stay in a series of small cells set into the lower part of the hill, approximately 100 metres west of the chapel. In accordance with the commission, this project is extremely respectful towards Le Corbusier s masterpiece. In the last two years, the client and the architect have improved the project following the remarks made by the different consulters. The association Les Amis de Le Corbusier, created in May 1968, decided to improve the knowledge of this project by showing plans and models during the meeting on April at the Maison du Brésil.
