1 Français 3: Study Guide Semester 1 Final Exam The final exam will be a thematic skills-based exam modeled after the DELF Level A2. It will address the themes from Semester 1 but will require students to recall material learned in French 1 and 2. All exam tasks will be focused upon the following themes: Gaul and Roman Gaul Middle Ages French Revolution and National Celebrations The skills tested will include: Listening Comprehension Speaking Reading Comprehension Writing On the following pages you will find materials intended to prepare you for the themes and skills that will appear on the exam. Supplemental Vocabulary: For your success on the final exam, I am providing a list of supplemental and/or important vocabulary with definitions. 5 Le passé compose with Être: you form the passé composé according to the formulas below: subject + être + past participle (with agreement) subject + ne + être + pas + past participle (with agreement) You form the passé composé using être with the DR and MRS VANDERTRAMPP verbs: Devenir Monter Venir Revenir Rentrer Arriver Sortir Naître Descendre Entrer Retourner Tomber Rester Aller Mourir Partir Passer When expressing the passé composé with être, you must make the past participle agree with the subject of the sentence (the one doing the action): Masculine Feminine Singular no change add an e Plural add an s add an -es Imparfait: you form the imparfait by dropping the ons from the nous form and adding the following endings: -ais -ais -ait -ions -iez -aient

6 Passé Simple: the passé simple is used in historical and literary writing. It is formed by dropping the endings of the infinitives and adding the following endings: -er verbs: ai, as, a, âmes, âtes, èrent -ir and re verbs : is, is, it, îmes, îtes, irent There are a number of irregular stems (see F3Y, pg.31-32). These take the following endings: s, s, t, ^mes, ^tes, rent le Futur: -er and ir verbs: to form the future simple add the endings below to the infinitives of these verbs -re verbs: to form the future simple drop the final e from the infinitive and add the endings below -ai -as -ons -ez -a -ont There are some important irregular verbs with unique stems in the future tense: être ser- aller ir- faire fer-
