I) LE MODE 3GO a. Définition Grâce à ce commutateur, les programmes du mode Utilisateur peuvent accéder à 3 Go de mémoire au lieu des 2 Go habituels que Windows affecte aux programmes du mode Utilisateur. Ce commutateur passe le point de départ de la mémoire du noyau à 3 Go. b. Remarque & Préconisation de ce mode Information sur le mode 3Go : Le mode 3Go, s'il permet de repousser certaines limites, n'est pas supporté par toutes les applications, et en particulier pour les mises à jour logicielles. Le mode "standard" doit rester le mode par défaut et être utilisé notamment pour toute installation de driver (driver vidéo inclus) afin que celles-ci se terminent correctement. Le choix sera donc laissé au démarrage du PC. Ce mode permet une gestion optimisée de la mémoire (RAM et SWAP). Il peut donc être recommandé pour les machines possédant plus de 2Go de RAM. Le mode 3Go est un mode de secours dit «temporaire» pour se sortir d une limite mémoire ponctuelle. Si l utilisateur est confronté au quotidien à une limitation mémoire de son système d exploitation 32bit, nous vous conseillons fortement de passer à un système d exploitation 64-bit. c. Allez dans l onglet Paramètres Systèmes Avancées Choisissez Paramètres dans le cadre Démarrage et récupération La boîte de dialogue Démarrage et récupération Cliquer sur Modifier les options de démarrage Le fichier boot.ini apparaît. Système d exploitation Microsoft Windows Vista Ouvrir la ligne de commande en mode administrateur : Ouvrir le menu démarrer Taper "cmd" dans la zone de recherche Clique droit sur le résultat Choisir "exécuter en tant qu'administrateur" Taper: BCDEDIT /set increaseuserva 2900 Valider la commande en pressant la touche "Entrée". Redémarrer l'ordinateur. Si cela devait empêcher le démarrage de Windows, démarrer en mode sans échec, refaire la même procédure, mais taper : BCDEDIT /deletevalue increaseuserva NB : le dual boot n est pas accessible avec les fonctionnalités standards de Microsoft Windows Vista 5
III) ANNEXE Solution Id: S-048749 Question: How is /3GB switch set up? Answer: The /3GB switch allows an application to use 3GB of address space and thus reducing the available address space for the operating system to 1GB. Normally, 2GB is allocated to the operating system and 2GB is allocated to user applications. - Make sure Windows XP is running with the latest patches from Microsoft that addresses the startup issue with the /3GB switch - Make sure to get latest patches from the workstation vendor - Right mouse button click on My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Start-up & Recovery Settings and select "Edit", next to To edit start-up options file manually - This will open the boot.ini file in Notepad - Copy the following line, from the boot.ini file, and paste below it: multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\windows="microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect - Edit the pasted line and add /3GB before "/fastdetect" to read: multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\windows="microsoft Windows XP Professional (3GB)" /3GB /fastdetect - Save and exit notepad; Page file: It is important that the page file size be increased to 4GB. RMB on My Computer > Properties > Advanced Tab > Performance Settings > Advanced Tab > select "Change" in the virtual memory section. Enter 4096 for "Initial size" as well as for "Maximum size" and select "Set" > OK". Reboot: After the changes are made to the boot.ini file, whenever the workstation is rebooting, the user will have the option to boot with the /3GB switch. If no selections are made, the workstation boots under normal mode. By default, the user has 5 seconds to make the selection. This can be changed in My Computer > Properties > Advanced Tab > "Settings" in "StartUp and Recovery" section and change the Time field in "System startup". More settings: /3GB takes a parameter called /Userva that can be used to precisely specify the amount of user and kernel address space. For example: multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\windows="microsoft Windows XP Professional (3GB-2900)" /3GB /userva=2900 /fastdetect This syntax gives 2900 megabytes to user application and 1100 megabytes to the kernel. Thus, the user can have multiple lines in the boot.ini file that have different settings and choose the one wanted while starting the computer. 6
