7 CHAPTER Configuring the Sun ZFS Appliance Monitor This section describes how to configure the Sun ZFS Appliance Monitor for your iphone. Before You Begin Download the Sun ZFS Appliance Monitor application from the Apple App Store. Configure Monitoring You can configure monitoring by entering connection data manually on the Configuration screen, or you can create a configuration file. Enter Host Connection Data 1. On the iphone Home screen, tap the Sun ZFS Appliance Monitor icon. 2. On the Configuration screen, tap the + button. 1

8 3. On the New Host screen, enter the following connection data: Host name of the storage appliance IP address of the storage appliance Port number on which the administrative service is running. 9 Create a Configuration File You can create a configuration file to hold connection data for one or more storage appliances. After saving your configuration file, you must encrypt the configuration file. 1. Create a spreadsheet using OpenOffice. 2. Save the file in the /tmp directory or another directory created on a memory based filesystem. 3. Change the permissions of the file to read and write for the owner only. 4. Format each column as a text field: Select all cells, right click, and select Format Cells. From the Numbers tab, select Text from the Category field and click OK. 5. For each server, enter a row containing the following data in columns A-F. Column A B C D E F Description Host name of the storage appliance IP address of the storage appliance Network port number on which the administrative service is running. Default is 215. User name for logging into the storage appliance Password for username Optional host-specific note Note Do not enter column headings or any additional information in other rows or columns. 6. Save the configuration file as type Text CSV (comma-separated values): a. Select File > Save as.. and enter a file name. b. Select File type: Text CSV (.csv) and click Save. c. In the Export of text files window, select the following: Character Set: Unicode UTF-8 (recommended) Field Delimiter:, (comma) Text Delimiter: " (quote) Chapter Configuring the Sun ZFS Appliance Monitor 3

10 7. Click OK. The appliance monitor will not accept an unencrypted file. 1. Create an encrypted version of the CSV configuration file, using the openssl command: openssl aes-128-cbc -md sha512 -in <input file> -out <output file> 2. When prompted, enter a password for the encrypted file, as shown in this example: openssl aes-128-cbc -md sha512 -in canopy.csv -out canopy_ae.csv enter aes-128-cbc encryption password: test Verifying - enter aes-128-cbc encryption password: test 3. Store the configuration file on a web server that can be accessed by the application. 4. Securely delete the old unencrypted file using a program that overwrites the data. The shred program is part of the GNU Core Utilities and is highly recommended for this task. Enter Configuration File Location 1. 11 2. Enter the following information: URL of the configuration file User name and password of the web server Password for the encrypted configuration file 3. Set Auto Accept Self-Signed Certificate to ON and the self-signed certificate for each appliance you connect to will be accepted automatically. Change the setting to OFF, and you will be prompted to accept the self-signed certificate the first time you connect to each appliance. Chapter Configuring the Sun ZFS Appliance Monitor 5
