CHAPTER 1 Procedure for Unpacking the Product This document describes how to unpack Oracle and Fujitsu s SPARC Enterprise M8000 or M9000 server from its shipping container. If the server shipped in a shipping container, see Unit in a Shipping Container on page 2. If the server shipped in a wooden packing container, see Unpacking a Wooden Packing Container on page 19. FIGURE 1-1 SPARC Enterprise M8000/M9000 Server 1-1

1.1 Unit in a Shipping Container This document explains how to unpack the SPARC Enterprise M8000/M9000 server if it was delivered in a shipping container. If the shipping container has the ramps bolted on the outside, see Unpacking a Shipping Container A on page 2. If the shipping container does not have the ramps bolted on the outside, see Unpacking a Standard Shipping Container B on page 8. 1.1.1 Unpacking a Shipping Container A This section explains how to unpack a shipping container A. 1. Prepare nippers, or a similar tool, to remove the metal bands securing the shipping container boxes. Also, prepare a screwdriver and crescent wrench, or spanners (No. 18 and 30), to open the boxes. Note The unpacking work requires free space with a width of 1 m (3.3 ft) or more in three directions around the cabinet, and free space with a width of 4.5 m (15 ft) or more in the direction you will place the cabinet down onto the floor. Note The ramps can be attached to either the front or rear of the pallet. Note When determining the final location and orientation of the cabinet to be installed, pay attention to the RAMP ATTACH THIS END mark printed on the shipping container box. The surface of the shipping container box to which the shipping label is affixed covers the front of the cabinet. 1-2 SPARC Enterprise M8000/M9000 Servers Unpacking Guide December 2010

Note Push only on the sides of the door. The center of the door may be deformed if it is pushed strongly. Chapter 1 Procedure for Unpacking the Product 1-7

9. Move the cabinet to the installation location. Extend the four leveling feet in the four corners of the cabinet (16) until they reach the floor. To confirm that the cabinet is stable, further rotate each leveling foot a quarter turn to fix it in position. Note The packing materials are easily smashed and should not be re-used. Discard these packing materials according to the instructions from the customer. Recycle as much of these materials as possible to reduce the amount of waste materials. 10. For information on subsequent work steps, refer to the SPARC Enterprise M8000/M9000 Servers Installation Guide. 1.1.2 Unpacking a Standard Shipping Container B This section explains how to unpack a standard shipping container B.
