Foreword IS0 (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies (IS0 member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through IS0 technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been established has the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. IS0 collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization. Draft International Standards adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for voting. Publication as an International Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the member bodies casting a vote. International Standard IS0 8540 was prepared by Technical Committee lso/rc 39, Machine tools. Annexes A and B of this International Standard are for information only.

INTERNATIONAL STANDARD NORME INTERNATIONALE Open front mechanical power presses - Vocabulary Presses mkaniques en col de cygne - Vocabulaire 6 bgti 1 Scope This International Standard gives the nomenclature relating to the main parts of open front mechanical power presses. NOTE - In addition to terms used in two of the three official IS0 languages (English and French), this International Standard gives the equivalent terms in the German language; these are published under the responsibility of the member body for Germany (DIN). However, only the terms given in the official languages can be considered as IS0 terms. It also defines terms relating to the operation and the specifications of these presses. This International Standard is intended to facilitate international communication in the field of mechanical power presses. 1 Domaine d application La presente Norme internationale donne la nomenclature propre aux principales pieces constitutives de presses mecaniques a bati en col de cygne. NOTE - En complement des termes utilises dans deux des trois langues officielles de I ISO (anglais et francais), la presente Norme internationale donne les termes equivalents dans la langue allemande; ces termes sont publies sous la responsabilite du comite membre de I Allemagne (DIN).
