1 Wireless Home Network Security Guide Welcome to the Wireless Home Network Security Guide. This guide was designed to help you secure your wireless modem from Primus. The Wireless Home Network Security Guide is broken down into two parts, The first part will walk you through changing the Network Name (SSID) of your wireless modem. The second part will walk you though connecting to your new Network Name (SSID) with the version of windows installed on your computer. Following this guide will cause the wireless portion of your internet connection to become non functional until fully completed. This guide will cover the following operateing systems in both English and French, Please scroll down to find the operating system running on your computer. Windows XP Windows Vista Windows 7 Mac OS 10.5

2 Section 1 - Changing Your Wireless Network Name (SSID) Please make sure to follow the directions associated with the model of wireless modem sent to you by Primus. Speedtouch ST585v6 Wireless Configuration Before proceeding: 1. Please ensure that your computer is connected to the modem as outlined in the Welcome to DSL article. Unless absolutely necessary, please refrain from configuring the wireless access point on the modem unless your internet connection is up and running via the wired connection. 2. Please check the WLAN LED on the modem. Highlighted in red below for demonstration only. If the LED is Green, consult steps 9 through 12 below. The default Network Name (SSID) and Encryption Key are located on a sticker on the underside of the modem.

3 If steps 9 through 12 fail to establish a connection, re-connect the modem to the computer and complete the full step-by-step sequence outlined below. Step-by-step 1. Using the computer that's connected to the modem with an Ethernet cable, please open a web-browser such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome or Apple Safari. 2. Clear the contents of the address bar and enter Press Enter or Return on your keyboard 3. In the main body of the page, please scroll down to the Home Network section. Within the Home Network area, please click on the Wireless link (highlighted in red below).

4 4. Please click on the Configure link in the upper-right corner (highlighted in red below). 5. Click to place a check or X in the Interface Enabled box (highlighted in red below). Please note that certain values in the image below will not match your modem, this is normal. 6. Once enabled, several options are available for modification, most installations shouldn't require any changes in the Configuration section. o Please take note of the value that shows in your modem's interface for the Network Name (SSID). This will be required in Step 11 and should match the SSID indicated on a sticker on the underside of the modem. 7. Securing your wireless: o Primus recommends the use of WPA-PSK Encryption as it is the most secure. Please select this option unless certain that you must use one of the others.

5 o From the WPA-PSK Version drop-down list, please select the option for WPA+WPA2 to ensure the best balance of compatibility and security. o If some devices have problems connecting to your wireless, it's possible that selecting the WPA option will allow these devices to connect without sacrificing too much security. Please take note of the WPA-PSK Encryption Key. This will be required by the computers or devices that you wish to connect to the modem's wireless access point. The default encryption key can also be found on the sticker underneath the modem. Please click Apply when the necessary selections have been made and you have taken note of the necessary information. 8. Allow the modem to restart and the WLAN LED to come up green. 9. If attempting to configure the same computer as has been used so far to connect wirelessly, please disconnect this computer from the modem. 10. Using the wireless network manager for your computer, please search for available wireless networks. o o The exact steps may vary from one operating system to another. Your wireless card's manufacturer may also provide a wireless manager application. 11. Locate the network matching the Network Name (SSID) from step 6. Select the network and request a connection. A password prompt should appear, please enter the Encryption Key from step 7. Click OK or Connect to continue establishing the connection. 12. If your computer was able to browse the Internet while connected with the Ethernet cable, you should now be able to browse the Internet via your wireless connection.

10 Section 2 - Connecting To New Wireless Network Name (SSID) Windows XP How to connect to your new Network Name or SSID: Step-by-step Right-click the wireless network icon in the lower right corner of your screen. Click View Available Wireless Networks. Locate your Network Name in the list. Click on your network to select it. Click connect. (click Refresh network list if your network doesn t appear)

11 Windows XP prompts you to enter a key. Please note that the security key is located under your modem (see picture below) Please note that it is case sensitive. (All Capital letters)

12 Please Note: Wireless Security Key s are in hexadecimal. (Letters A-F and 0-9) Thompson 585V7 Thompson 585V8 Windows XP will show its progress as it connects to your network. If the Wireless Network Connection window continues to show Acquiring Network Address, you may have mistyped the encryption key click Cancel and return to step 3. After you re connected, you can close the Wireless Network window. Now you re ready to browse the Web wirelessly.

13 Windows Vista How to connect to your new Network Name or SSID: Step-by-step Locate and click on the Network Icon in the Windows System Tray Click on Connect or disconnect Locate your network s Name (SSID) in the list and double-click on it. Windows Vista prompts you to enter your Network Security Key.

15 Assuming that the connection was successful, click close. You are now ready to browse the Internet. Windows 7 How to connect to your new Network Name or SSID: Step-by-step Locate and left-click on the Network Icon in the Windows System Tray Locate and click on your new network name in the list that appears.

16 Click on Connect. Windows 7 prompts you to enter your Network Security Key.

18 Mac OS 10.5 How to connect to your new Network Name or SSID: Step-by-step Open Finder. Select Applications (on the left). Locate and launch Internet Connect (right hand pane) Locate and click on Airport. (If the AirPort option is not present your adapter may not be installed or properly configured, please contact apple for further assistance) Ensure that AirPort Power is On.

19 Click the arrows to the far right or the Network: drop-down. Select your network from the list. Your Airport network will prompt you to enter your network password. ( Do not change the Wireless Security setting ) Please note that the security key is located under your modem (see picture below) Please note that it is case sensitive. 20 Your OSX should detect your security type automatically. Click OK and within a few moments you should be connected. French Section Windows XP Guide pour se connecter à votre nouveau réseau sans-fils sous Windows XP. Étapes par étapes Cliquez avec le bouton droit de votre souris sur l icône de mise en réseau en bas, à droite de votre écran. Cliquez sur Affichez la liste de réseaux disponibles. Localisez dans la liste le Nom du réseau. Cliquez sur votre réseau pour le sélectionner.

21 Cliquez sur Connecter. (Cliquez sur Actualiser la liste des réseaux si votre réseau n apparaît pas dans la liste.) Windows XP vous demande d insérer votre clé de cryptage pour votre réseau sans-fil. Veuillez prendre note que la clé de sécurité se retrouve en dessous de votre modem (voir l image ici-bas) et doit être entrée en lettre majuscule.

22 L'encryptage de la clé de reseau sans-fil doit être en HEX. (Alphabet A-F et chiffre 0-9) Thompson 585V7 Thompson 585V8 Windows XP vous montrera la progression de la connexion à votre réseau. Si la fenêtre de Connexion au réseau continue de montrer Lecture de l adresse réseau, il est possible que vous ayez fait une erreur en tapant la clé de cryptage. Cliquez sur Annuler et retournez à l étape 3. Une fois connecté, vous pouvez fermer la fenêtre des Connexion réseau sans-fil. Vous êtes maintenant prêt à naviguer sans-fil sur Internet.

23 Windows Vista Guide pour se connecter à votre nouveau réseau sans-fils sous Windows Vista. Étapes par étapes Localisez et cliquez gauche sur l icône de mise en réseau dans la barre d état Windows Choisir l option Connect or disconnect Localisez dans la liste le nom de réseau (SSID) et double cliquez dessus.

24 Windows Vista vous demande de tapez la Clé de cryptage. Veuillez prendre note que la clé de sécurité se retrouve en dessous de votre modem (voir l image ici-bas) et doit être entrée en lettre majuscule. L'encryptage de la clé de reseau sans-fil doit être en HEX. (Alphabet A-F et chiffre 0-9) Thompson 585V7 Thompson 585V8 Cliquez sur connecter. Vous êtes maintenant prêt à naviguer sans-fil sur Internet.

25 Windows 7 Guide pour se connecter à votre nouveau réseau sans-fils sous Windows 7. Étapes par étapes Localisez et cliquez avec le bouton gauche de votre souris surl icône de mise en réseau dans la barre d état Windows. Localisez et cliquez sur votre réseau dans la liste qui est apparue.

26 Cliquez sur connecter. Windows 7 vous demande de taper la clé de cryptage.

27 Veuillez prendre note que la clé de sécurité se retrouve en dessous de votre modem (voir l image ici-bas) et doit être entrée en lettre majuscule. 28 Étapes par étapes Ouvrer le menu Finder. Sélectionnez Applications (sur la gauche). Localisez et lancez Connexion Internet (sur la droite) Localisez et cliquez sur Airport. (Si vous ne pouvez voir l option AirPort, votre carte peut ne pas être installée et/ou configurée correctement. Veuillez contacter Apple pour plus d assistance.) Assurez-vous que Airport est activé. Cliquez sur les flèches à l extrême droite de Réseau. Choisissez votre réseau dans la liste déroulante.

29 La fenêtre Airport vous demande d entré votre clé de cryptage ou mot de passe. (Ne pas changer le mode d'encryptage ) Veuillez prendre note que la clé de sécurité se retrouve en dessous de votre modem (voir l image ici-bas) et doit être entrée en lettre majuscule.encryptage de la clé de reseau sans-fil doit être en HEX. 30 Votre OSX devrait reconnaître automatiquement le type de sécurité de votre réseau sansfil. Cliquez sur OK et en quelques instant, vous serez connecté.
