TRANSPORT CONVECTIF TROPOSPHERE-STRATOSPHERE Importance l échelle globale? Jean-Pierre Pommereau CNRS LATMOS, Guyancourt, France
Transport Troposphere-Stratosphere 0-14 km Convection. Rapide (heures) jusqu au niveau d équilibre Layer of Neutral Buoyancy (LNB), la base de la Tropical Tropopause Layer (TTL) 0.3 K /day = 0.3 km/month 14-20 km Ascendance lente (>6 mois) par échauffement radiatif ou /et Soulèvement rapide (heures) par overshoot convectif Question: Contribution relative overshoot comparée à ascendance radiative? Corti et al 2005
PLAN 1. Qu est ce qu un overshoot? 2. Impact sur la TTL à échelle locale 3. Importance à l échelle globale Continents vs oceans, cycle diurne, variation saisonnière, vitesse verticale 4. Représentation dans les modèles globaux?
Convective overshoot Cb turrets Energetic updraft above equilibrium level (kinetic energy) Known for long over continents Up to 20 km Fujita, T.T., Mystery of Severe Storms, 1992 Updraft velocity of up to 60-80 m/s (1 km overshoot requires about 20 m/s at LNB) Expected impact: Top TTL CPT Injection of adiabatically cooled tropospheric air in LS LNB Cold trap dehydration Danielsen, 1982

Conclusions Echelle locale.
