American Apparel Lausanne La Placette, Lausanne 2013 Lorsque l espace d art contemporain La Placette a proposé à Claudia Mougin et Sebastien Verdon d intervenir dans leur vitrine (espace dédié à l art contemporain, actif dans le paysage culturel vaudois depuis fin 2004), ces derniers se sont inspirés de l histoire du Burger King que tout le monde attendait. Leur proposition joue avec les attentes du public. Quelles sont aujourd hui les attentes du public qui se déplace à un vernissage ou qui va voir une exposition d art? l Office Fédéral de la Culture (OFC BAK) s est récemment penché sur la question. Résultat: une grande partie des fonds consacrés jusque alors à l art contemporain est désormais versé à l art dit numérique; aux nouveaux médias. Comme les églises, les musées et les galeries peinent à conserver des adeptes. Le public, pourtant intéressé à l art, semble montrer un désintérêt croissant pour l art contemporain. On va aux vernissages plus de manière sociale, pour rencontrer des gens, boire un verre, apporter un soutien moral à la création culturelle. En prenant ces données en considération, les artistes ont développé un concept d exposition se penchant sur les attentes actuelles d un jeune public. La nouvelle qu American Apparel ouvrait une boutique à Lausanne a attiré une grande nombre de jeunes fashionistas, qui ont du se contenter de voir une reconstitution d une vitrine avec du matériel prêté par la marque américaine. Les artistes ont offert 100 bières peintes à la main en guise de consolation. Et aussi pour mettre de l art dans les mains des visiteurs.
