YOUNG ARCHITECTS IN AFRICA COMPETITION The CA ASI is holding an architectural competition which will highlight the dynamic young African architecture. La CA ASI organise un concours d architecture pour mettre en lumière la vitalité de la jeune architecture africaine. The winning projects of this international competition open to young African architects will be exhibited in 2014 at the CA ASI during the International Architecture Biennale, June 7 - Nov 23, 2014. This competition is a unique opportunity to underline the important role played by the African World today, as seen throughout it s contemporary architecture. Les meilleurs projets de ce concours international ouvert aux jeunes architectes africains seront exposés en 2014 à la CA ASI dans le cadre de la 14ème Biennale d Architecture de Venise (7 juin - 23 novembre 2014). AS.Architecture-Studio has set up the CA ASI Association, to promote the dialogue between architecture, contemporary art, and the Biennale visitors. For the 14th International Architecture Biennale, the CA ASI will open the doors of Palazzo Santa Maria Nova to emerging African architects in order to emphasize the creativity and originality of new African architecture, and to help it gain world-wide recognition. With the official «Biennale Collateral Events» accreditation, the Young Architects in Africa exhibition will display a rich and unique reflection on the African architecture. Avec l agrément de la Biennale d Architecture de Venise, l exposition de la nouvelle architecture en Afrique présentera une image riche et neuve de l architecture africaine. The competition is launched in October 2013. All documents must be submitted by March 15, 2014 latest. An international jury will meet in Paris at the end of March, to select the winners and running projects. The awards ceremony will be held in Venice. The winners will then be invited to present their project at the CA ASI in Venice, during the 14th International Architecture Biennale, as an exhibition is specially ongoing for the occasion. APPLICATION CONDITIONS Have a maximum experience of 15 years as an architect and be a Citizen of an African country outside the Arab League (a prior competition was held in 2012). Present a project, realized or not, located in one of the following countries: Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Angola, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Sao Tomé and Principe, Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinnea Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo. A diploma in Architecture, Engineering, or a Fine Arts school diploma is compulsory. The age limit is set at 45 years old. Applicants may participate to the competition as individuals, as a group, or in collaboration with a practice (proven that you are contractually committed to the practice s project). Applicants may submit up to three projects, but all three must have a different subject. 8 LES CONDITIONS DE PARTICIPATION Exercer une activité d architecte, de création de patrimoine et/ou de préservation de patrimoine depuis moins de 15 ans et avoir la nationalité de l un des Etats d Afrique hors pays de la ligue Arabe (ayant déjà fait l objet d un concours similaire en 2012). Présenter un projet réalisé ou non, implanté dans l un des Etats d Afrique ci-dessous énumérés : Burundi, Ethiopie, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Maurice, Mozambique, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalie, Soudan du Sud, Tanzanie, Ouganda, Zambie, Zimbabwe, Angola, Cameroun, République centrafricaine, Tchad, République du Congo, République démocratique du Congo, Guinée équatoriale, Gabon, Sao Tomé-et-Principe, Botswana, Lesotho, Namibie, Afrique du Sud, Swaziland, Bénin, Burkina Faso, Cap Vert, Côte-d Ivoire, Gambie, Ghana, Guinée, Guinée-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritanie, Niger, Nigeria, Sénégal, Sierra Leone, Togo. Critère lié à la détention d un diplôme d architecture, d ingénierie ou d une école d Art. L âge limite est de 45 ans. Il est possible de participer au concours en tant qu individu, groupe, ou partenariat d un cabinet (en prouvant votre implication sur ce travail). Chaque candidature présente trois dossiers maximum, mais chaque dossier doit être sur un projet différent.
4.2. APPLICATIONS The applicants must prepare a folder written in French or in English. It must include: - a duly completed registration sheet (downloaded from www.ca-asi.com website) - a C.V. - a cover letter, 2 pages maximum - a project presentation consisting of a maximum of 10 pages - one hard copy on A4 format and a soft copy in PDF format. All images will be in TIFF or JPG format, with a minimum resolution of 300 DPI. The jury s decision will be based on the images that will be projected to them, in addition to the hard copy. SELECTION PROCEDURES Applications will be submitted to an international jury appointed by the CA ASI and composed of personalities from the cultural world. According to the quality of applications, the jury will choose about ten projects that will be displayed. The winners will be invited to present their project during an exclusive exhibition at the CA ASI in Venice, for the 14th International Architecture Biennale. The award ceremony will be held at the CA ASI. The award ceremony date will be made public subsequently. 4.4. ASSESSMENT CRITERIA All applicants will be assessed according to the same evaluation criteria. These equalweighting criteria are the following: - quality - originality - concept and presentation of the chosen solution - innovative aspect - sustainability - the project relevance in relation to the main theme of the 14th Architecture Biennale : Fundamentals. Les primés présenteront leur projet dans une exposition sélective à la CA ASI à Venise dans le cadre de la 14ème Biennale d Architecture qui s ouvrira le 7 juin 2014. La cérémonie de remise des Prix aura lieu à la CA ASI. La date sera précisée ultérieurement. LES CRITERES D EVALUATION Tous les participants seront jugés sur la base des mêmes critères d évaluation. 4.5. AFTER THE COMPETITION The exhibition will be inaugurated at CA ASI in Venice during the preview days, on the occasion of the 14th International Architecture Biennale. The results will be announced to the main media. A reception will be held at the CA ASI. A 10,000 Euro endowment is to be divided amongst the winners. Exhibition held in Venice, Paris, and in Africa. PREVIOUS EXHIBITIONS / COMPETITIONS CONCOURS / EXPOSITIONS PRECEDENTES New Chinese Architecture La nouvelle architecture chinoise 2010 The Twelfth Venice Biennale of Architecture, with «people meet in architecture» as the theme, is undoubtedly the best chance for presenting to the western world the not-well-known works of young Chinese architects. Specifically for this purpose, French AS.Architecture-Studio set up CA ASI Architecture Arts Association. Its CA ASI Art Gallery located in new Santa Maria Square in Venice hosted the 2010 CA ASI Chinese New Architectural Exhibition, providing a platform for the exchange and dialogue between the eastern and western architects. This exhibition works solicitation has aroused wide attention from Chinese architects around the world, and received the works of more than 150 young and middle-aged architects and students majoring in building profession in Mainland China, Hong Kong, the United States, UK, France, Australia and other countries and regions. All works of candidates are to be included into the official works catalog of this exhibition. After the strict and intense four-round appraisal in Paris, the international judging panel appraised excellent works from a total of 11 Chinese architects and students around the world. Their works cover the thought on several issues in the current architecture field. These works are to be exhibited in Venice CA ASI Art Gallery from September 25 to November 21, 2010. The first three winners in each class of award includes: First Prize: Dong Gong, Vector Architects (Beijing) Second Prize: Liu Yichun, Atelier DeSHaus (Shanghai) Third Prize: Wang Zhenfei, HHD_FUN (Beijing Branch) La Biennale d Architecture de Venise 2010 organisée autour du thème «people meet in architecture» est sans doute le média le plus approprié pour promouvoir la qualité de l architecture chinoise qui aujourd hui encore reste largement méconnue en occident. AS.Architecture-Studio a pris l initiative de rendre cette rencontre possible dans le cadre d une exposition organisée à la Ca Asi située au cœur de Venise dans le Palazzo Santa Maria Nova, Campiello Santa Maria Nova. L appel à candidature a rencontré un vif succès auprès des architectes chinois, plus de 150 participants résidant en Chine, à Hongkong, aux Etats-Unis, en Angleterre, en France et en Australie y ont répondu. A l issue des délibérations, le jury qui s est réuni fin juillet à Paris a retenu onze architectes, ou équipe d architectes, dont le travail couvre un large champ des problématiques architecturales contemporaines. Trois lauréats ont été désignés, et huit mentions ont été attribuées, dont une mention spéciale. Les projets des trois lauréats ainsi que les huit mentions furent exposés à la CA ASI, maison commune d Architecture- Studio à Venise, du 25 septembre au 21 novembre 2010. Les trois lauréats choisis par le jury sont: 1er prix : Dong Gong (Vector Architects) de Beijing, pour le projet «Encountering the Memory», situé à Hefei. 2ème prix : Liu Yichun (Altelier Deshaus) de Shanghai, pour les projets Qinpu Youth Center et Kin dergarden of Jiading New Town. 3ème prix : Wang Zhanfei (HHD Fun Architectural Design) de Beijing, pour des projets tels que l installation «Double Infinity» et «YJP Administrative Center» (bâtiment temporaire à Tianjin).

YOUNG ARAB ARCHITECTS PARIS - VENICE Young Arab architects La nouvelle architecture dans le monde Arabe 2012 The international jury for the «Young Arab Architects» competition gathered in Paris on Tuesday, May 29 th 2012. Three prizes and twelve honorable mentions, including a special mention, were awarded. The projects were displayed in Venice and in Paris. Over 140 architects from Morocco, Algeria, Lebanon, Egypt, Tunisia, Syria, Jordan, Palestine, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, Sudan, Qatar and Libya submitted their projects. After reviewing applications, three winners tied for first place and twelve selected entries were also awarded, including a special mention. The three winners are : Tarik Oualalou (Kilo Architectures) from Rabat, Morocco, for the project «Volubilis Archaeological Museum». Chamss Oulkadi from Agadir, Morocco, working with Khalid Ait El Madani for the project «Memorial, history of a destroyed city». Youssef Tohme (Y.Tohme / Architects & associates) from Beirut, Lebanon, for the project «Campus for innovation, economics and sport». Le jury international du concours «Young Arab Architects» s est réuni à Paris le mardi 29 mai 2012. Trois prix et douze mentions, dont une spéciale, ont été attribués. Les projets furent exposés à Venise et Paris.
