JANUS Navire de recherche océanographique et d intervention sous-marine Le JANUS est un catamaran de 30 mètres à positionnement dynamique, très large et très maniable, permettant d opérer le REMORA 2000, un sous-marin biplace profond (610 m), par conditions de mer difficiles (jusqu à force 7) ou le «SUPER ACHILLE», un ROV 2000 m. Le positionnement dynamique du JANUS est assuré à l aide de deux hélices azimutables sur 360 à l arrière et deux propulseurs d étrave hydrauliques à l avant. Ce système de positionnement (DP) conçu par ALSTOM assure trois fonctions : permettre de maintenir le JANUS à coordonnées constantes (point fixe par rapport au fond) suivre une cible mobile (sur ombilical ou libre) en maintenant son cap et sa position relative (ROV, AUV, Sous-marin..) manœuvrer l ensemble du navire à l aide d un «Joystick» unique en timonerie ou de plusieurs postes de contrôle extérieurs. Plusieurs mobiles sous-marins équipés d un transpondeur acoustique peuvent être représentés simultanément sur écran mais un seul (au choix) est utilisé en référence DP. Le JANUS est équipé pour loger 16 personnes dans de bonnes conditions de confort. Grâce à son automatisation et ses équipements sophistiqués, il permet à une équipe pluridisciplinaire d utiliser simultanément un grand nombre d équipements scientifiques et océanographiques ainsi que des engins sous-marins (sous-marins, ROV, AUV). Bien que de petite taille par rapport aux navires océanographiques classiques, le JANUS présente un «ratio» inégalé entre mobilité, équipage réduit, sûreté des manutentions, palette de moyens. Vu son faible coût économique et logistique, il permet des opérations complexes pour des budgets raisonnables.
JANUS Oceanographic survey and sub-sea intervention vessel JANUS is a 30 meter aluminium semi-swath catamaran equipped with dynamic positioning. This state-of-the-art vessel is easy to handle and can be used to support REMORA 2000, a twinseat deep submarine (610 m) and the "Super Achilles" ROV 2000 system. JANUS dynamic positioning (DP) system is maintained by two Schottel azimuth stern propellers and two hydraulic bow side thrusters. This «DP» is designed by ALSTOM and fulfills three functions : it maintains JANUS at constant coordinates (at a set point in relation to the sea bed), it can monitor a moving target (free swimming or on umbilical) while maintaining its course and relative position (ROV, AUV, Submarine etc) it can be used to handle the ship with just a single «Joystick» control from the wheelhouse or via external control units. Several underwater vehicles (or divers) equipped with acoustic transponder can be tracked simultaneously on monitors, but only one (selected by the skipper) is used as a DP reference. JANUS is fully equipped to accommodate 16 persons very comfortably and is fitted with sophisticated equipment designed to allow a multi-disciplinary team to operate a large range of scientific and oceanographic equipment, including underwater vehicles (submarines, ROV, AUV, sonar). Although its size is small in comparison to standard oceanographic vessels, JANUS can offer an unequalled capability when mobility, reduced crew, safe handling and range of means are considered. In view of its low cost and reduced logistics, it allows complex operations on a reasonable budget.

MODE D UTILISATION / VIE A BORD Mode «positionnement dynamique» (DP) Navire mobile Suivi d un groupe de plongeurs ou d un ou plusieurs mobiles équipés de transpondeurs : sous-marin, ROV, AUV Le système intègre les données du gyrocompas et de la base acoustique. Il contrôle le déplacement du navire. On peut travailler en deux modes, soit en cap constant, soit en alignement automatique du navire sur la cible. Navire fixe Le positionnement dynamique maintient le navire en position fixe par rapport au fond en utilisant l un des capteurs suivants : système DGPS une balise acoustique fixe par rapport au fond (transpondeur) Mode croisière En transit ou en déplacement normal, le JANUS est propulsé à l aide de ses deux Schottel. LES EQUIPEMENTS DU JANUS REMORA 2000 SOUS-MARIN D'OBSERVATION BIPLACE A 610 M Le REMORA 2000 est le dernier-né de la famille des sous-marins de COMEX Conçu et instrumenté comme un sous-marin océanographique, il est aussi, par son esthétique et sa conception, parfaitement adapté aux besoins des activités médiatiques (TV, films, reportages ) et à la recherche d épaves (fouilles légères, photogrammétrie ). Sa fonction principale : emmener deux hommes en plongée pour une expédition sous-marine pouvant aller jusqu'à 610 mètres de profondeur pendant 10 heures, dans les conditions de confort et de sécurité d'une cabine à pression atmosphérique. Son objectif : allier aux mystères et à la fascination de la plongée en sous-marin une aisance d'évolution et d'observation comparable à celle de la plongée «en bouteilles». Pour que les sensations du plongeur «autonome» puissent être reproduites, le concept «hélicoptère» du REMORA 2000 est caractéristique à plus d'un égard. Les cinq propulseurs, dotés de larges hélices en tuyère de 450 mm de diamètre, et le choix d'une propulsion hydraulique servo-contrôlée par ordinateur, donnent au REMORA 2000 une manœuvrabilité et des capacités d'évolution similaires à celles d'un hélicoptère. Ce même ordinateur de bord assure, outre le pilotage automatisé du sous-marin : autocap, autoprofondeur, auto-altitude, la gestion de l'énergie embarquée, l affichage des paramètres de route, l autosurveillance, la gestion des alarmes, etc... La conduite du sous-marin est assurée par l'intermédiaire d'un boîtier de télécommande, semblable, par son apparence et sa taille, à une console de jeu vidéo. Elle peut être opérée par n'importe lequel des deux passagers. Sous une seule main, le pilote trouve regroupées toutes les commandes utiles à la plongée et à l'évolution du sous-marin. Ce concept de console mobile laisse au pilote la possibilité de se concentrer sur l'observation "sereine" de l'extérieur. La flottabilité du sous-marin peut être ajustée à volonté en cours de plongée par simple chasse d'eau ou purge d'air du ballast-régleur. Grâce à ce système de ballastage, le sous-marin peut s'accommoder d'une variation de charge de plus de 200 Kg. Le REMORA 2000 est par ailleurs doté d'un lest de sécurité largable d'un poids de 105 Kg et de deux rideaux de flotteurs souples gonflables en surface qui permettent l'évacuation de l'équipage en cas d'impossibilité de levage par le navire porteur (très mauvais temps au retour en surface). La flottabilité apportée par ces flotteurs est telle que, même si la coque venait à se remplir entièrement d'eau en surface (porte ouverte par mauvais temps), le sous-marin serait rendu insubmersible pendant et après l'évacuation de l'équipage.
JANUS'S EQUIPMENT REMORA 2000 TWIN SEAT 610 M OBSERVATION SUBMARINE REMORA 2000 is the most recent of the COMEX family of submarines. Although originally designed and fitted out as an oceanographic research submarine, its aesthetic appearance makes it perfectly suitable for mass media events (TV, films, documentaries etc) and the research and salvage of shipwrecks (underwater exploration, deep water archaeology, photogrammetry). Its primary function : take two people diving on an underwater exploratory expedition to a depth of up to 610 meters for 1 to 10 hours in the same conditions of comfort and security as at atmospheric pressure. Its objective is to combine the mystery and fascination of underwater diving with an ease of movement and observation comparable to "Scuba" diving but without decompression stops! The five propellers, fitted with large 450 mm diameter shrouded propellers and the choice of a computerized hydraulic propulsion system make REMORA 2000 particularly easy to manoeuver and give it a range of movement very similar to that of a helicopter, providing passengers with the feeling of «diving alone». The same on-board computer controls automatic course, depth and altitude, management of on-board energy, displays details of the submarine s course, automatic surveillance, alarm management and other functions. The submarine is operated by a remote controlled handset, which is very similar in appearance and size to that of a video game. It can be operated by either one of the two passengers, with all controls required to dive and handle the submarine grouped together in one hand. The mobile hand-set concept means that the pilot can devote all his attention to observing what he sees outside the submarine in serenity. The submarine's buoyancy can be adjusted as required when diving by simply purging water or air from the ballast adjuster. Thanks to this ballasting system, the submarine can accommodate a 200 kg variation in load. For security s sake, REMORA 2000 also has a 105 kg drop weight and two curtains of flexible floats that can be inflated at the surface to evacuate the crew in the unlikely event that the sea is too heavy for the mother ship to lift the submarine back onto her deck when REMORA returns to the surface.

A son gré, le pilote affiche, sur un écran couleur ultra-plat central, les images que lui fournissent : un sonar panoramique bi-fréquence 325-725 KHz une caméra TV couleur à haute résolution et sensibilité (0,2-0,3 lux) une caméra TV noir et blanc SIT très haute sensibilité (0,001 lux) un appareil photo numérique haute définition dont les clichés sont vus en temps réel à l intérieur du sous-marin. une caméra TV arrière couleur (sécurité lors de manœuvres à l intérieur d épaves) un magnétoscope DVCAM embarqué (Betacam SP sur demande) Un effort particulier a été porté sur l'éclairage extérieur. Celui-ci est composé de quatre projecteurs quartz iode et de quatre projecteurs haute puissance de type HMI. GE ROV "SUPER ACHILLE", un ROV (Remote Operated Vehicle) léger, télécommandé par câble depuis le JANUS. Une "cage garage" est descendue à la verticale du navire par un bossoir et un treuil de pont de capacité 2000 mètres. Arrivé à son immersion de travail, "SUPER ACHILLE" peut ensuite quitter sa cage grâce à une laisse flottante de 70 m, gérée par un treuil en tête de cage (Tether Management System). L ombilical rétractable reliant le ROV à sa cage est un simple coax via lequel l énergie nécessaire, les contrôles et les informations reçues (sonar, TV, position) sont multiplexés. On évite ainsi les ombilicaux multiconducteurs, rigides et chers. Divers outils peuvent être adaptés. "SUPER ACHILLE", équipé d'une balise acoustique "Transpondeur" (gérée par l USBL du JANUS) peut aussi servir de référence en DP et être positionné en permanence en coordonnées géographiques sur le système de navigation intégré (Integrated Navigation System). On peut ainsi conserver l'historique du trajet du ROV et connaître sa position par rapport à son garage également équipé d un "Transpondeur". ROV The "SUPER ACHILLES" Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV) is a light unit and can be remote controlled via its lifting cable from JANUS. "SUPER ACHILLES" is equipped with an acoustic beacon or "Transponder" controlled by JANUS's USBL ; it can also be used as a DP reference and permanently positioned on geographic coordinates on the Integrated Navigation System. A record can thus be kept of the ROV's movements and its position in relation to the garage, which is also equipped with a "Transponder".

Le système comprend : l'acquisition : ISIS le post- traitement : Bathy-pro la sortie de cartes : Delphmap Il permet la réalisation de mosaïques sonar et de cartes bathymétriques rejouables à volonté. L affichage 3D temps réel associe la bathymétrie multi-faisceaux à une texture sonar latéral. La prospection, l hydrographie et le positionnement sont assurés par : un sondeur multi-faisceaux RESON 8101 à projecteur étendu, angle d ouverture 150. un sonar latéral KLEIN 2000 bi-fréquence 100/500 KHz, portée maximum 400 m de chaque côté. "Poisson" remorqué sur câble d'acier 1800 m monté sur treuil électro-hydraulique rapide et télécommandé depuis la station lecture sonar en salle océanographique. HYDROGRAPHIC SURVEY SYSTEM - a KON MAP 4 built-in navigation system, comprising a Mar INS master station and a Mar INS slave station. KON MAP 4 is capable of acquiring and storing data from all the on-board sensors on the ship. All these data are monitored in real time with a digitized marine map as a background ; in addition to the ship's data, the tracks of the ROV, the submarine and the divers can be displayed and stored in memory. - a TRITON ELICS workstation to acquire and process the data picked up by the side scan sonar and the multi-beam sounder-sonar system. The workstation comprises : acquisition : ISIS post-processing : Bathy-pro map printer : Delphmap This system can be used to produce sonar mosaic displays and bathymetric maps that can be replayed whenever needed. The 3D real time display combines multi-beam bathymetry and the side-scan sonar texture. The survey, the hydrography and the positioning are ensured by : a RESON 8101 multi-beam echo-sounder unit with an extended projector, opening angle 150. a KLEIN 2000 dual-frequency 100/500 KHz side-scan sonar, maximum range 400 m on each side. The sonar "Fish" is trailed behind a 1800 m steel cable mounted on a fast electro-hydraulic winch that is remote controlled from the sonar workstation in the ship. Les bossoirs de levage des perches sont situés sur l arche supérieure et permettent leur extraction complète sans besoin de tirage à terre.

These wells run across the ship and house the telescopic mobile poles bearing the acoustic hydrophones (USBL and others) which can be lowered 2 to 4 meters below the water line or recovered and sheltered during transit. The davits to raise the poles are located on the upper arch and allow complete extraction at sea.
