2 Festival ars in cathedrali Concert inaugural Openingsconcert Opening Concert La Dynastie des Bach de Bachdynastie The Bach Dynasty Bart Jacobs, organiste titulaire de la cathédrale de Bruxelles, jouera les ouvres de jeunesse de Bach. Il accompagne l ensemble vocal Vox Luminis, un ensemble qui qui a acquis en quelques années une solide réputation internationale. Ils ont prévu un programme des plus chatoyants, de musique vocale et d orgue de la Dynastie Bach. Bart Jacobs, titularis-organist van de Brusselse kathedraal, brengt een programma met vroege orgelwerken van J. S. Bach en begeleidt het vocaal ensemble Vox Luminis. Dit top-ensemble verwierf in enkele jaren tijd een internationale reputatie. Samen zorgen ze voor een wervelend openingsconcert met koor-en orgelmuziek van de Bach Dynastie. The program will propose the magnificent choir and organ music of Johann Sebastian Bach ( ) born 330 years ago, as the music of his relatives like Johann Christoph, Johann Ludwig, and Johann Michael Bach. Bart Jacobs, main organist, has chosen works of youth Johann Sebastian Bach, and will accompany the top vocal ensemble Vox Luminis :00 Orgue italien du XX e siècle Hedendaagse orgelmuziek uit Italië Italian Organ of the 20 th century L organiste de la cathédrale de Florence (I), Sergio Militello emmènera le public à travers le répertoire symphonique du XX e siècle italien et conclura son récital par une improvisation sur un thème grégorien. De organist aan de kathedraal van Florence (I) Sergio Militello brengt een programma met symfonische werken uit de 20 ste eeuw in Italië. Tevens brengt hij improvisaties op een gregoriaans thema. Œuvres de Stamm, Breit et Idenstam. Tijdens dit vrolijke orgelconcert verrast de organist Nico Declerck jong en oud in een programma met vrolijke swingen filmmuziek van o.a. Stamm, Breit en Idenstam. Johann Sebastian Bach : la Messe allemande Bachs grote orgelmis the German Mass L organiste et pianiste russe Sergey Tcherepanov jouera l une des œuvres les plus riches et ésotériques de Johann Sebastian Bach, la Messe allemande ou «Dritter Teil der Clavierübung». De Russische organist en pianist Sergey Tcherepanov brengt één van de rijkste en meest diepgaande esoterische orgelwerken van J. S. Bach: Clavier-Übung III of de Deutsche Orgel-Messe The russian organist and pianist Sergey Tcherepanov will play one of the richest and most esoteric works of Johann Sebastian Bach, the German Mass, also called «Dritter Teil der Clavierübung». 2 3

3 ars in cathedrali ars in cathedrali :00 L orgue aux sonorités magiques Magische orgelklanken The organ with magic sounds L organiste Xavier Deprez jouera la V e symphonie de Charles-Marie Widor, ainsi que la transcription de «l apprenti sorcier» de Paul Dukas (né il y a 150 ans), poème symphonique inspiré par un texte de Goethe. Titularis-organist Xavier Deprez speelt Charles-Marie Widor (5 de symfonie), Jehan Alain, en een transcriptie van «l Apprenti sorcier» van Paul Dukas, wiens 150ste verjaardag we dit jaar vieren en die zich voor dit symfonisch gedicht inspireerde op een tekst van Goethe. The organist Xavier Deprez will play one of the master piece of Charles-Marie Widor, the fifth symphony. This year is also celebrating the birth of Paul Dukas 150 years ago. Xavier will play his own transcription of «the Sorcerer s apprentice», a symphonic poem inspired by a text of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe :00 Bach en Sol majeur Bach in sol groot Bach in G major Saviez-vous que la tonalité de Sol majeur a une symbolique toute particulière? Elle est «céleste, et visionnaire des choses d en haut». Pour la découvrir, l organiste belgojaponaise Momoyo Kokubu a construit un programme autour de la Sonate en Trio en Sol majeur. Wist u dat elke toonaard een bijzondere symboliek heeft? Zo ook de toonaard van sol groot : hemelse toonaard die een visioen van de wereld hierboven oproept.. Om die op het spoor te komen heeft de Belgisch- Japanse organiste Momoyo Kokubu een programma opgebouwd rond Bachs Triosonate in Sol groot. To discover it, the Japanese-Belgian organist Momoyo Kokubu has built a program around the Triosonata in G major :00 L éclat de Widor De pracht van Widor The sparkle of Widor Ben Van Oosten est une référence en matière d orgue symphonique français. Il livrera sa version de la VI e symphonie de Widor, entourée d œuvres de Vierne, et de Félix Mendelssohn, les Variations Sérieuses. Ben Van Oosten is een wereldautoriteit op het vlak van de Franse symfonische orgelmuziek. Naast de 6 de symfonie van Widor brengt hij werken van L. Vierne en F. Mendelsohns Variations Sérieuses. Ben Van Oosten is a reference in the French symphonic organ world. He will play especially the symphony VI. His program will include also works of Felix Mendelssohn, Variations Sérieuses and Louis Vierne :00 Bach immortel De onsterfelijke Bach Bach immortal Le Vlaams Radio Koor dir. Bart Van Reyn sera accompagné par l organiste de la Cathédrale d Anvers, Peter Van De Velde. Leur programme rendra hommage à la musique vocale et pour orgue de Johann Sebastian Bach et Félix Mendelssohn. Bach, musicien intemporel, a fortement inspiré les générations qui l ont suivi et suscité nombre d adaptations de ses œuvres d orgue, orchestrales et vocales. Het slotconcert wordt verzorgd door het Vlaams Radio Koor o.l.v. Bart Van Reyn en Peter Van de Velde, titularis-organist van de Antwerpse kathedraal. Zij brengen een afwisselend programma met vocale muziek van J. S. Bach en F. Mendelssohn, omringd door uitzonderlijke romantische en hedendaagse orgelwerken die gebaseerd zijn op het onsterfelijke repertoire van J. S. Bach. The Vlaams Radio Koor, conducted by Bart Van Reyn, will be accompanied by the organist of the Cathedral of Antwerp, Peter Van De Velde. Their program will pay a tribute to the magnificent vocal and organ music of Johann Sebastian Bach and Felix Mendelssohn. Paysages lointains ou jardins proches, colorés aux nuances de pétales et de buissons dont le peintre transpose les partitions chromatiques en une multitude de fragments d univers qui, au fil du travail créatif, accordent leurs différences, aussi subtiles soient-elles. Or, dans une cathédrale, l omniprésence du sentiment végétal induit par la succession des colonnes, le décor architectural et le dessin des fenestrages, guide les pas de celui qui traverse l espace dématérialisé par les souffle des lumières. The atmospherical compositions of Patricia Kinard, have their origin in the remembrance of mixtures of vegetals, and those are born from human, birds, and from the neede time and the passing clouds which are sowing. Far sceneries or close gardens, colored with the nuances of petals and bushes, the painter manages to transpose the chromatic scores in a multitude of fragments of the universe. Through the artistic process, those colors are matching. However, in a Cathedral, the omnipresence of the vegetal feeling given by the disosition of the columns and the drawing of the windows, this feeling is guiding the one who crosses the space which is dematerialized by the ligt. Zoals men het stil moet maken om muziek te kunnen horen, zo is dat ook nodig voor wie zich wil onderdompelen in het zingen van de kleuren. De atmosferische composities van Patricia Kinard vinden hun oorsprong in de herinnering aan plantenstelsels die gevormd zijn door mensen, vogels, de tijd en de overdrijvende wolken die het zaad uitstrooien. De schilderes transponeert de chromatische partituur van verre landschappen of nabije tuinen met kleurrijke nuances van bloemblaadjes en struikgewas in een veelheid van kosmische fragmenten, die in de loop van het creatief proces zelfs hun meest subtiele verschillen op elkaar afstemmen. In de ruimte van een kathedraal is de ervaring van de plantenwereld nooit ver weg door de opeenvolging van de kolommen, de architectonische versiering en het maaswerk van raampartijen. Die ervaring leidt de schreden van de bezoeker die deze etherische, van licht vervulde ruimte betreedt. Hier voelen de schilderijen van Patricia Kinard zich thuis. Voelt u dat na? 6 7

Polyptyque of Brian Whelan A l occasion du centenaire de l exécution à Schaerbeek d Edith Cavell, la cathédrale de Bruxelles accueille le polyptyque que la cathédrale de Norwich a commandé au peintre Brian Whelan et qui évoque la vie de cette femme remarquable. De Passie van Edith Cavell De weg naar het kruis Schilderijen van Brian Whelan Ter gelegenheid van de honderdste verjaardag van de terechtstelling van Edith Cavell in Schaarbeek komt het polyptiek dat Brian Whelan voor de kathedraal van Norwich schilderde naar Brusssel. Dit veelluik evoceert van het leven van deze bijzondere vrouw. De inhuldiging van de tentoonstelling in de Sint-Michiels- en Sint- Goedelekathedraal heeft plaats op 12 juli om 15 uur. Toegang gratis.
