Size, strength and running speed count for nothing. It s all about the agility of the mind. Three animals, an elephant, a Polar bear and an African lion have volunteered to be this year s performing animals. They each obey to 5 commands that indicate to them specific movements to perform. The players compete to be the first to find the right sequence of commands that will intruct the animals to perform a series of jumps from a Starting Position to a Target Position. Each time a player finds a correct set of commands, they are awarded a position card. The player who ends up with the most cards is the official winner of the Jungle Smart tournament. BUT DU JEU Les animaux des 5 continents se réunissent dans la jungle pour la compétition annuelle Jungle Smart. Les participants doivent être rapides et avoir l esprit agile. Chaque compétiteur doit trouver le plus rapidement possible la séquence d ordres permettant à trois animaux (l éléphant, l ours et le lion) de passer de leur position actuelle à la position indiquée sur les cartes objectifs. Chaque ordre est composé d une ou plusieurs syllabes. Chacune de ces syllabes correspond à un mouvement précis. Les joueurs indiquent la séquence d ordres que les animaux doivent exécuter en criant la séquence composée avec ces syllabes. Le premier joueur qui trouve la bonne succession de mouvements reçoit la carte objectif. Le jeu se termine lorsque toutes les cartes objectifs ont été ramassées. Le gagnant est le joueur qui possède le plus de cartes objectifs. 1

2 GETTING READY All players sit on the same side of the table so as to have the same view of the boards and animals. The Playing Board is placed at the center of the table. The Command board is placed in front of the Playing Board, visible to all players (see back of the box). The Position cards are shuffled and placed face down on the table as a deck. The first position card is turned over, and the animals are placed on the Playing Board accordingly. This is the Starting Position (also referred to as the Current Position). The Position card is then placed at the bottom of the deck. The Jungle Smart Game is now ready to be played. PRÉPARATION DU JEU Les joueurs ne se placent pas autour de la table mais se placent tous du même coté de la table pour que tout le monde voit les animaux de la même façon. Un peu comme au théâtre ou au cinéma. Mélangez les cartes objectifs et formez un talon de pioche (Les cartes sont tournées dessins vers le dessus). Placez les animaux sur les souches dans la position indiquée par la première carte puis placez cette carte dans la pile des cartes. Placez le plateau d instructions façe aux joueurs. MEANING OF THE COMMANDS Each command is a monosyllable that corresponds to a precise movement that an animal will perform. KI - the top animal on the blue stump jumps to the left and becomes the top animal on the red stump LO - the top animal on the red stump jumps to the right and becomes the top animal on the blue stump SO - the top animals on both stumps jump at the same time and become the top animals on the opposing stump (they trade places) MA - the bottom animal on the red stump moves up to become the top animal on the red stump (In the event that there were two animals on the red stump, the bottom animal becomes the top one and the top animal becomes the bottom one. If there were three animals, the bottom one moves to the top and the middle one goes to the bottom) NI - the bottom animal on the blue stump moves up to become the top animal on the blue stump 2

3 SIGNIFICATION DES CARTES ORDRES Chaque ordre correspond à un mouvement précis et est associé à une syllabe permettant aux joueurs de former l ordre à prononcer pour que les animaux effectuent l ensemble des mouvements nécessaires pour arriver à la position indiquée sur la carte objectif. KI - l animal qui se trouve sur le dessus de la pile d animaux de la souche bleue se déplace sur le dessus des animaux qui se trouvent sur la souche rouge. LO - l animal qui se trouve sur le dessus de la pile d animaux de la souche rouge se déplace sur le dessus des animaux qui se trouvent sur la souche bleue. SO - l animal du dessus d une souche échange sa place avec l animal du dessus de l autre souche. MA - l animal qui se trouve en bas de la pile de la souche rouge monte et se place au dessus de la pile de la souche rouge. NI - l animal qui se trouve en bas de la pile de la souche bleue monte et se place au dessus de la pile de la souche bleue. PLAYING THE GAME The top Position card from the deck is flipped over and placed beside the Command board so that all players can see it. This is the Target Position. All players now compete to be the first to shout the right sequence of commands that will intruct the animals to move from their Starting Position to the Target Position. The first player to shout a set of commands, must then demonstrate their solution by moving the animals through the motions, one command at a time, according to the sequence of their commands. If their solution is correct, they win the Target Position card. The new position becomes the Starting Position and a new card from the deck is flipped to become the new Target Position. A new round is ready to be played. 3

4 DÉROULEMENT DU JEU La carte objectif indique la position à atteindre par les animaux à partir de leur position de départ. Dès qu'un joueur trouve la séquence des mouvements qui permettent aux animaux d atteindre cette position, il prononce à haute voix l ordre composé des syllabes correspondant à cette séquence. Il peut utiliser autant de mouvements qu il désire et il peut répéter chacun d entre eux plusieurs fois. Il déplace ensuite les animaux en suivant la séquence qu il vient d indiquer, le premier ordre donné correspondant à la première syllabe de la séquence qu il vient de prononcer. IN CASE OF AN ERROR If a player has made an error and their demonstration does not result in the Target Position, they can no longer shout commands during the current turn, (that is, until a new target card is revealed), and the animals are re-arranged at the Starting Position so that the remaining players can compete to find the right set of commands. EN CAS D'ERREUR Si le joueur qui a prononcé l ordre s'est trompé et ne réussit pas à placer les animaux dans la position indiquée sur la carte objectif, ceux-ci sont replacés dans leur position de départ (celle indiquée par la carte position ramassée au tour précédent), et le jeu continue jusqu'à ce que quelqu'un d'autre réussisse le tour. Le joueur qui s'est trompé ne peut plus proposer de solution pendant ce tour de jeu. S'il ne reste plus qu'un seul joueur à ne pas s'être trompé, celui-ci ramasse automatiquement la carte objectif, sans être obligé de proposer de solution, et un nouveau tour de jeu commence comme indiqué précédemment (les animaux restent cependant dans leur position initiale). END OF THE GAME The game ends when all the position cards have been won by the players. The player with the most cards is the winner. 5 GAME LEVEL Once players feel they have reached a good level at playing the game, they can flip the Command Board and play with the RED side on which the command "SO" is no longer available. NIVEAU DU JEU Niveau régulier : Les joueurs peuvent utiliser les 5 instructions Niveau difficile : Les joueurs ne peuvent pas utiliser l instruction «SO» EXAMPLE The animals await in the Starting position (see figure on page 6) (Lion on top of bear which is on top of elephant, all on the red stump) Target position On the red stump lion on top of the elephant On the blue stump the bear alone In normal play level (GREEN command board) a possible solution is "LO SO"! Demonstration: "LO" - the Lion moves from the red stump to the blue stump. "SO" - The lion and the bear exchange places. The Target Position is attained. The player collects the current Target position card. In expert play level (RED command board) a possible solution is "LO-LO-NI-KI "! (The command "SO" is no longer available). Try it. EXEMPLE : JEU RÉGULIER. 1. Les animaux sont dans la position suivante : LION sur OURS sur ÉLÉPHANT sur la souche rouge 2. La carte objectif indique : LION sur ÉLÉPHANT sur la souche rouge OURS sur la souche bleue. Un joueur trouve une solution possible, il crie «LO-SO», ce qui veut dire qu il va d abord effectuer l ordre «LO» (le lion se déplace sur la souche bleue) puis l ordre «SO» (le lion et l ours échangent leur place). Les animaux sont effectivement dans la position indiquée par la carte objectif. 5

L ordre à prononcer serait alors par exemple «LO-LO-NI-KI» Si à la suite des mouvements qu il a indiqués, les animaux sont effectivement placés comme sur la carte objectif, il a réussit. il ramasse la carte objectif et la pose devant lui. Les animaux restent dans leur position. La nouvelle carte objectif du dessus de la pile indique la nouvelle position à atteindre et un nouveau tour de jeu commence. 6

7 IMPORTANT NOTES 1. There is more than a single way to arrive at the Target position from the Starting position. 2. A command can only be pronounced if the animals can actually perform it. For example, the command "SO" cannot be pronounced unless there are animals on both tree stumps, and the command "MA" cannot be pronounced if there are less than two animals on the red stump. 3. Each command may be used several times as long as the set of commands leads to the Target Position. 4. When the commands "KI", "LO" and "SO" are executed, it is always the animals on top that perform the move, and they end up being the top animals at the opposing stumps. When the commands "MA" or "NI" are executed it is always the bottom animal that moves to the top. Commands are always executed in the order they appear. 5. Players should shout their commands only when they have the entire sequence of commands ready in their mind, and not think aloud. 6. In the event that a player shouts commands that do not lead to the Target Position, they can no longer participate during the current turn. If all but one player have erred, the remaining player wins the current Target card even though they may not have yet pronounced a command. 7

8 NOTES IMPORTANTES Si plusieurs animaux se trouvent sur la même souche, c'est toujours l'animal du dessus qui se déplace sauf pour les instructions NI et MA ou c est l animal du dessous de la pile qui se déplace au-dessus de la même pile. De même si un animal se déplace sur une souche où se trouve déjà un animal, il se place toujours au-dessus de celui-ci. On ne peut crier un ordre que si les animaux peuvent effectivement effectuer le mouvement indiqué. On ne peut pas, par exemple, utiliser l ordre «SO» s il n y a pas au moins un animal sur chaque souche, ou utiliser l ordre «MA» s il n y a qu un seul animal sur la souche rouge. ALTERNATIVE RULE Once a new Target position card is turned over, all players have a pre-determined amount of time (e.g. 30 seconds) to find a right sequence of commands and write it down on a piece of paper. The first player to write down their solution quickly places it, face down, at the center of the table. All other players that find a solution within the allocated time, place their written solution on top of the first solution. When the allocated time has elapsed, all solutions are verified in the order in which they were placed. The player to have first placed the shortest solution (with the least number of commands that achieve the Target position) wins the position card. RÈGLE ALTERNATIVE Dès qu'un joueur trouve la séquence des mouvements qui permettent aux animaux d atteindre cette position, il écrit l ordre composé des syllabes correspondant à cette séquence sur un bout de papier qu il place face cachée devant le tableau. Au bout d un temps pré-déterminé (30 secondes par exemple) on vérifie les papiers et le premier joueur qui avait donné la bonne solution la plus courte remporte la carte objectif.
