Adobe Acrobat REAC system requirements (Continued) SONAR REAC Recording System requirements are based on the system requirements for SONAR X1 Producer. There are a number of other variables that may affect performance; including differences in hardware design, system configuration and overall combination of software applications that are installed. (*1) System components will vary depending on your V-Mixing System configuration. Caution: Do not operate the PC on an unstable or unlevel surface or near equipment that produces excessive vibrations. Note: The REAC Driver (all versions) will not work with any web demo, LE or Studio version of SONAR. The REAC Driver will only work with SONAR X1 Producer. Software and driver updates Before using your REAC system with SONAR X1, you must download and install the following software updates: SONAR X1a and X1b Producer updates. The REAC system can also be used with SONAR X1c and SONAR X1 Producer Expanded. Note: REAC is the current version of the REAC Driver. Hardware and software requirements 9

10 Hardware setup The following diagrams are common configurations for the REAC System with a PC. Please refer to the diagram that best reflects your system. Figure 1. V-Mixing System Diagram with (2) S-1608 S-1608 (SLAVE) S-1608 (SLAVE) RECORD PC with SONAR and REAC Driver SPLIT MONITOR Digital Clock Approved Monitoring Device M-480/M-400/M-380 Digital Mixer (MASTER) or 48kHz Confidence Monitoring The preceding V-Mixing system consists of two S-1608(s) (16 inputs x 2 and 8 outputs x 2) and an M-480/ M-400/M-380. The two S-1608(s) must be configured as the SLAVE using the REAC MODE switches and the M-480/ M-400/M-380 must be configured as the FOH (MASTER) using the REAC Config option on the M-480/ M-400/M-380. Please refer to the M-480/M-400/M-380 manual for more details. The REAC driver can receive up to 40 channels of audio data from the REAC split port on the M-480/M-400/ M-380. You can check the SPLIT OUT audio source assignment on the M-400/M-380 LCD by pressing the M-400/M-380 [SYSTEM] button, followed by the [REAC CONFIG] button and finally the [SPLIT] button. The audio source assignment of the SPLIT port of the M-480 is the same settings as REAC port A, You can check and change the assignment by pressing the [PATCHBAY] button, followed by the [OUTPUT] button and finally the [REAC A] button. 10 SONAR REAC Recording System User s Guide

11 Digital Audio Clock Synchronization is necessary to avoid monitoring problems, such as noises and gaps. To synchronize the monitoring device with the REAC system when using the FA-66, simply connect the digital output of the M-480/M-400/M-380 to the digital input of the FA-66 with an optical cable. When using the VS-700R or the OCTA-CAPTURE, connect the digital output of the M-480/M-400/M-380 to the digital input of the VS-700R or the OCTA-CAPTURE with a coaxial cable. If using the VS-700R, open VS-700R IO Editor and choose DIGITAL 1 in SYNC SOURCE and COAXIAL in DIGITAL 1 INPUT. Figure 2. The preceding V-Mixing system (Figure 2.) consists of an S-4000S-3208 (32 inputs and 8 outputs) and an M-480/M-400/M-380. The S-4000S must be configured as the SLAVE using the REAC MODE switches and the M-480/M-400/ M-380 must be configured as the FOH (MASTER) using the REAC Config option on the M-480/M-400/ M-380. Please refer to the M-480/M-400/M-380 manual for more details. Hardware setup 11

12 The sample rate of the monitoring device must be set to the same sample rate as the M-480/M-400/M-380. You can check the sample rate of the M-480/M-400/M-380 by following these steps: 1. Push the SYSTEM button. 2. On screen, look for INTERNAL SAMPLING FREQ that will tell you the sample rate of the M-480/M-400/ M-380. Note: The REAC Driver Control Panel also displays the current REAC sample rate when connected. The REAC driver can receive up to 40 channels of audio data from the REAC split port on the M-480/M-400/ M-380. You can check the SPLIT OUT audio source assignment on the M-400/M-380 LCD by pressing the M-400/M-380 [SYSTEM] button, followed by the [REAC CONFIG] button and finally the [SPLIT] button. The audio source assignment of the SPLIT port of the M-480 is the same settings as REAC port A. You can check and change the assignment by pressing the [PATCHBAY] button, followed by the [OUTPUT] button and finally the [REAC A] button. 13 The two S-1608(s) must be configured as the SLAVE using the REAC MODE switches and the M-300 must be configured as the FOH (MASTER) using the REAC Config option on the M-300. Please refer to the M-300 manual for more details. The sample rate of the monitoring device must be set to the same sample rate as the M-300. You can check the sample rate of the M-300 by following these steps: 1. Push the SYSTEM button. 2. On screen, look for SAMPLE FREQ that will tell you the sample rate of the M-300. The REAC driver can receive up to 40 channels of audio data from the REAC Splitter between the REAC Slave device and M-300. You can check the REAC A or REAC B audio source assignment on the M-300 LCD by pressing the M-300 PATCHBAY button, followed by the OUTPUT button and finally the REAC A (or REAC B) button. Please refer to the M-300 manual for more details. Digital Audio Clock Synchronization is necessary to avoid monitoring problems, such as noises and gaps. To synchronize the monitoring device with the REAC system when using the FA/SPS-66, simply connect the digital output of the M-300 to the digital input of the FA/SPS-66 with an optical cable. When using the VS-700R or OCTA-CAPTURE, you must use an Optical to COAX converter. Use an optical cable to connect the digital output of the M-300 to the Optical input of the converter. Use a coaxial cable to connect the COAX output of the converter to the digital input of the VS-700R or OCTA-CAPTUR. Note: You can also insert the S-4000D between the S-1608 and REAC B port. In this case, you can record audio data of REAC B into SONAR. Hardware setup 13

S-1608 System Diagram S-1608 (MASTER) RECORD PC with SONAR and REAC Driver S-4000D SPLIT MONITOR Digital Clock Approved Monitoring Device S-0816 (SLAVE) - 96kHz Confidence Monitoring The preceding S-1608 system consists of an S-1608 (16 inputs and 8 outputs) and an S-0816 (8 inputs and 16 outputs). To record 16 inputs from the S-1608 and 8 inputs from the S-0816 into SONAR, use the REAC MODE switch located on the front panel of each device and configure the S-1608 as the MASTER and the S-0816 as the SLAVE. The OCTA-CAPTURE, FA-66 or VS-700 R is used for monitoring during recording. Digital Audio Clock Synchronization is necessary to avoid monitoring problems, such as noises and gaps. To synchronize the monitoring device with the REAC system when using the FA-66, simply connect the digital output of the S-0816 to the digital input of the FA-66 with an optical cable. When using the VS-700R or OCTA-CAPTURE, connect the digital output of the S-0816 to the digital input of the VS-700R or OCTA- CAPTURE using an Optical to COAXIAL converter with an Optical cable and a coaxial cable. If using the VS-700R, open VS-700R IO Editor and choose DIGITAL 1 in SYNC SOURCE and COAXIAL in DIGITAL 1 INPUT. 14 SONAR REAC Recording System User s Guide

S-4000 System Diagram S-4000S-3208 (MASTER) RECORD PC with SONAR and REAC Driver S-4000D REAC MONITOR Digital Clock Approved Monitoring Device S-4000S-0832 (SLAVE) - 96kHz Confidence Monitoring The preceding S-4000 system consists of an S-4000S-3208 (32 inputs and 8 outputs) and an S-4000S-0832 with the optional SO-AES4 module. To record 32 inputs from the S-4000S-3208 into SONAR, use the REAC MODE switches on the front panel to configure the S-4000S-3208 as the MASTER and the S-4000S-0832 as the SLAVE. Digital Audio Clock Synchronization is necessary to avoid monitoring problems, such as noises and gaps. With the optional SO-AES4, the S-4000S-0832 can output AES/EBU and Word Clock digital signals to synchronize your approved monitoring device. The following digital connections have been tested and approved: FA-66 AES/EBU-to-optical converter AES/EBU to S/PDIF Transformer to optical converter VS-700R AES/EBU (direct connection; no converter is necessary) Word Clock Direct (direct connection; no converter is necessary) To use Digital Audio Clock Synchronization, open VS-700R IO Editor and select the appropriate items in the SYNC SOURCE and DIGITAL 1 INPUT lists. 16 Software installation Install SONAR The following instructions apply to all supported versions of SONAR Producer. Please refer to the installation guide for SONAR. 1. Insert the SONAR DVD into the PC s DVD-ROM drive. 2. Launch the installer and follow the on-screen instructions. 3. After you have completed the installation, start SONAR and follow the on-screen instructions to register the software. 4. Be sure to download any updates for SONAR. You can find updates in the SUPPORT section ( of the Cakewalk web site. You must be registered to get updates. 5. Exit SONAR. Install REAC driver 1. Insert the REAC Driver CD-ROM into the PC s DVD-ROM drive. 2. Double click the REACDriverSetup.exe file located in the root of the REAC Driver CD-ROM. 3. When the REAC Driver Setup Wizard appears, follow the on-screen instructions to begin installation. 4. When installation completes, restart the computer. 5. Be sure to download any updates for the REAC driver. You can find updates in the SUPPORT section ( of the Roland web site. 16 SONAR REAC Recording System User s Guide

17 Install VS-700/Cakewalk FA-66/Roland OCTA-CAPTURE driver Please refer to VS-700 or FA-66 documentation for installation instructions and additional setup information. Note 1: If you are using the VS-700R, you must install the VS-700R IO Editor: 1. Insert the SONAR V-Studio 700 CD-ROM into your computer's CD/DVD-ROM drive. 2. On the Start menu, click My Computer, right-click on the CD-ROM icon and select Explore. 3. Open the \Tools folder and double-click Setup.exe. If the User Account control dialog appears, click Continue. 4. Follow the installation instructions on the screen. Note 2: The Cakewalk V-Studio 700 is not compatible with SONAR 7 Producer Edition. If you are using the VS-700R Rack unit for monitoring, you must use SONAR 8 Producer or later. WARNING: Do not connect the OCTA-CAPTURE/FA-66/VS-700R to the computer until instructed. Please refer to OCTA-CAPTURE, VS-700 or FA-66 documentation for additional information and instructions. Software installation 17

18 PC setup The Windows operating systems that have been approved are: Windows 7 (32 Bit and 64 Bit) Windows Vista SP2 (32 and 64 Bit) Windows XP SP3 (32 Bit) Please select your system and follow the instructions to optimize your PC for this recording system. You will only need to make these changes once. Important: Before configuring the computer, please make sure that you have completed the following steps: Make sure you have connected the Digital Audio Clock from the REAC System to the audio interface. Make sure you have already installed the following software and drivers: SONAR X1 Producer and any available updates. The REAC Driver and the REAC Driver version The OCTA-CAPTURE driver, the FA-66 Driver or the VS-700 Driver. If you are using the VS-700R, make sure VS-700R IO Editor is installed. Make sure you have installed the latest chipset driver and graphics driver for your computer. You may want to disable automatic updates for certain applications that may inhibit performance. These typically include Adobe applications, QuickTime, firewall and anti-virus software. Configure Windows 7 32 Bit and 64 Bit PC performance setting 1. Open the Windows Control Panel. 2. Click System and Security and then click the System icon. 3. Click Advanced system settings located on the left side of the window. If the User Account Control dialog appears, click Yes. 4. Click the Advanced tab. 5. In the Performance area, click Settings. 6. Click the Advanced tab. 7. In the Adjust for best performance of item area, click Background services. 8. Click OK to apply the setting. 9. Click OK to close the System Properties dialog. 18 SONAR REAC Recording System User s Guide

19 Power management setting 1. Right-click the Desktop and click Personalize on the pop-up menu. 2. Click the Screen Saver icon. 3. In the Screen saver box, select (None). 4. Click Change power settings. The Power Options window appears. 5. In the Preferred plans area, click Show additional plans. High performance appears under Preferred plans. 6. Under Hide additional plans, click High performance. 7. Under High performance, click Change plan settings. PC setup 19

20 8. In the Turn off the display and Put the computer to sleep boxes, select Never. 9. Click Change advanced power settings. The Power Options dialog appears. 10. Click the plus (+) icon to the left of Hard Disk to see more options. 11. Click the plus (+) icon to the left of Turn off hard disk after to see more options. 12. In the Settings (Minutes) box, select Never. 13. Click OK to close the Power Options dialog. 14. Click Save Changes and close the window. 15. Click OK to close the Screen Saver Settings dialog. Network setting First, disable the following devices/ports using the BIOS setup or detach the devices from the PC: Second Ethernet (LAN) port (* The REAC recording system needs only one port) Wireless LAN device Modem device Please refer to your computer's documentation for information about disabling devices/ports. Note: The Ethernet (LAN) port should be used exclusively for REAC recording. This port should not be used for internet or networking. If any data packets are transferred via Ethernet, the glitch noise or pop noise will be occur in the REAC system recording. 20 SONAR REAC Recording System User s Guide

21 1. Open the Windows Control Panel. 2. Under Network and Internet, click View network status and tasks. 3. Click Change adapter settings on the left side of the window. 4. If there is more than one connection, disable all of connections except one Local Area Connection, which is used to connect to the REAC System. How to disable the connections 1. Right-click the connection icon that you want to disable. 2. Choose Disable on the pop-up menu. 3. Right-click the Local Area Connection icon and click Properties on the pop-up menu. If the User Account Control dialog appears, click Yes. 4. Clear all check boxes except Roland Ethernet Audio Network Driver. 5. Click OK to close the Local Area Connection Properties dialog. 22 Security setting Windows Update setting 1. Open the Windows Control Panel. 2. Under System and Security, click Review your computer's status. 3. Click Windows Update on the left side of the window. 4. Click Change settings on the left side of the window. 5. Choose Never check for updates. If the User Account Control dialog appears, click Yes. 6. Clear the Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates check box. 7. Click OK and close the Windows Update window. Windows Defender setting 1. Open the Windows Control Panel. 2. Select display method from Large icons or Small icons. 3. Click Windows Defender. 4. Click the Tools icon at the top of the Windows Defender window. 5. Under Settings, click Options. 22 SONAR REAC Recording System User s Guide

23 6. Under Automatic scanning, clear the Automatically scan my computer check box. 7. Click Save to close the window. Note: In order to receive software updates, you must revert the Windows Defender settings. If Windows Update is enabled during the recording process, the recording may be interrupted. Problem Reports and Solutions setting 1. Open the Windows Control Panel, and change the display method to Category. 2. Under System and Security, click Review your computer's status. 3. Click Troubleshooting. 4. Click Change settings located in the left side of the displayed window. 5. Choose Off under Computer Maintenance. 6. Clear the Allow users to browse for troubleshooters available from the Windows Online Troubleshooting service check box. 7. Click OK. PC setup 23

24 Network setting 1. On the Start menu, right-click Computer, then select Manage on the pop-up menu. The Computer Management dialog appears. 2. Click Device Manager, and click the triangle icon to the left of Network Adapters to see more items. 3. Right-click the Ethernet Controller icon to which the REAC system is connected, then select Properties on the pop-up menu. The Properties dialog appears. 4. Click Advanced settings. 5. Make sure the Wake On Lan function is disabled (in the Property list, select Wake-up capabilities, Wake up function, Wake-On-Lan function, etc. and select None or It is not in the Value list. 6. Click OK to close the Properties dialog. 7. Close all other open windows. Disabling Windows scheduled defragmentation 1. On the Start menu, click My Computer. 2. Right-click a hard disk icon, such as Local Disk, then select Properties on the pop-up menu. 3. In the Properties dialog, click the Tools tab. 4. Click Defragment Now. If the User Account Control dialog appears, click Yes. 5. Click Configure schedule. 6. Clear the Run on a schedule check box. 7. Click OK to close the Disk Defragmenter window. 8. 25 Configure Windows Vista 32 Bit and 64 Bit PC performance setting 1. Open the Windows Control Panel. 2. Double-click System and Maintenance and then click the System icon. 3. Click Advanced system settings located on the left side of the window. If the User Account Control dialog appears, click Continue. 4. Click the Advanced tab. 5. In the Performance area, click Settings. 6. Click the Advanced tab. 7. In the Adjust for best performance of item area, click Background services. 8. Click OK to apply the setting. 9. 41 7. Look at the SYNC LED on the VS-700R front panel to confirm that the VS-700R synchronizes to the REAC System: If the SYNC LED corresponding to DIGITAL INPUT is lit, the VS-700R synchronizes. If the SYNC LED corresponding to DIGITAL INPUT blinks, the VS-700R does not synchronize. In this case, check the digital audio clock connection, sample rate of both devices, REAC system and VS-700R. 8. Close VS-700R IO Editor. 47 Disabling the VS-700C Control Surface plug-in If you are using the VS-700 surface, use the following procedure to disable the VS-700 control surface plugin: 1. On the Edit menu, click Preferences to open the Preferences dialog. 2. Click Control Surfaces on the left side of the window. 3. Select VS-700 and click the Delete button. 4. Click Apply. Note: When the VS-700C control surface plug-in is disabled, almost all controls on VS-700C, such as knobs, faders and buttons, are unavailable while recording with the REAC system. Before mixing the recorded data, be sure to enable the VS-700C control surface plug-in again. PC setup 47

48 Create a new project Note: 8, 16 and 40 channel REAC recording templates are included with SONAR. 1. On the File menu, click New to open the New Project File dialog. 2. In the Template list, select the REAC template. 3. Click Store Project Audio in its own Folder. 4. In the Name box, type the project name. 5. In the Location box and Audio Path box, specify the hard drive that you use for audio recording. Note 1: Templates for M-400 are compatible with M-380. Templates for M-300 are compatible with M-480. 49 Mixing down recorded audio data after live performance After recording, you can mix down the recorded audio data by using the monitoring device and SONAR. To change drivers for mix down: 1. Connect the monitoring device to the PC, and turn it on. 2. Open SONAR and choose Preferences in the Edit menu. 3. Click Playback and Recording on the left side of the window. 4. Clear all the Input/Output Drivers check boxes. 5. Select all monitoring device check boxes. 6. Click Apply. 7. Restart SONAR. Note 1: When using VS-700, please refer to the Initial Settings section in VS-700 Getting Started manual. Note 2: To switch back to REAC recording, please check all settings and configurations written in this manual, such as PC Setup, Configure Windows XP, Vista, Cakewalk FA-66 Setup, VS-700 Setup, OCTA- CAPTURE Setup, SONAR Producer Setup. 50 About the REAC Control Panel The following section describes the controls in the REAC Driver Panel. Preferred Sync setting Locked This option is selected by default. When this mode is selected, REAC is the clock master for both SONAR and the monitoring device. Use this option when there is a physical clock connection between the monitoring device and the optical, COAXIAL, AES/EBU or Word Clock output on the REAC hardware system. When Locked is selected, the Freewheel Options button is unavailable. This is the most desired sync mode setting for this recording system. Alternate sync settings There may be situations when it is not possible to have a dedicated clock connection between the REAC hardware and the monitoring device. The following are alternative clock settings in the REAC Driver Control Panel. Please be advised that any of the settings below will either increase latency or create gaps, pops, clicks or other noise when monitoring through approved interfaced. The actual recordings will not be affected. Freewheel (Re-sync) When this mode is selected, REAC is the clock master for SONAR only. Use this option only if it is not possible to have a physical clock connection between the monitoring device and the optical, COAXIAL, AES/ EBU or Word Clock output on the REAC hardware system. Using this option runs the risk of audio dropouts when monitoring. Selecting this option enables the Freewheel Options button. Freewheel Options: Fixed. This option is selected by default when in Freewheel (Re-sync) mode. Selecting Fixed means the latency between an audio event (either live monitoring or playback) remains constant despite the Output Buffers setting. However, selecting this option may increase the risk of monitoring and playback gapping. The Fixed option increases the buffer size and provides better playback. Based on Buffers. This setting compensates for clocks that are faster and/or have higher jitter than the REAC clock by increasing the Record Buffer. While audio monitoring may be more consistent, the latency will increase. 50 SONAR REAC Recording System User s Guide

51 Playback Only When this mode is selected, the monitoring device becomes the clock master for SONAR. This option allows for the best playback performance without a physical clock connection between the monitoring device and the REAC hardware. Selecting this option disables the Freewheel Options button. Record Only When this mode is selected, the monitoring device is not available for monitoring. This option is primarily used for recording only without a physical clock connection between the monitoring device and the REAC hardware. When Record Only mode is enabled, the Freewheel Options button is unavailable. Output Buffers Indicates the number of output buffers being used by the REAC driver itself when in Freewheel mode. Decreasing the value will increase the frequency of gaps in monitoring or playback. Increasing the value will decrease the frequency of gapping, but may increase latency based on the Fixed or Based on Buffers settings. Other Panel settings and controls REAC Status On indicates that the SONAR workstation is connected to the REAC system and is receiving data. Off may indicate a connection and/or communication problem between the REAC hardware and SONAR. For example, the Ethernet cable may not be connected to the PC, or a part of the REAC system may have lost power. This control works in real-time and will update its state if a connection change is detected from the REAC System, even while the dialog is open. REAC Inputs By default, this control will be set to the highest number of inputs currently configured on your REAC hardware. You can choose to set this value lower than the actual number of physical inputs, which will simply expose a shorter list of inputs to SONAR. Sample Rate Indicates the REAC sample rate. If the REAC signal is not detected, this field will display the last sample rate detected by the system. Note: SONAR and the monitoring device (OCTA-CAPTURE, FA-66 or VS-700 R) must be set to the same sample rate as your REAC System and/or V-Mixer. PC setup 51

52 Record Buffer setting This setting is used to maximize performance of the system when recording high track counts over long (two or more hours) periods of time. The default setting is The Record Buffer setting can be decreased in order to ensure lower latency, however gaps and noise during recording may occur. Playback / Monitor Device This control panel allows you to configure your monitoring device. Only supported devices will display in the drop-down menu. Panel This button is used to open the ASIO panel for the supported monitoring device. About This button opens the About dialog, which contains version and copyright information. Notes on word clock, synchronization and latency What is word clock? Word clock is a signal used to synchronize digital audio devices, such as digital mixers, digital audio converters and digital audio workstations. Word clock is used to maintain a constant and accurate timing reference to avoid data errors. Word clock is essential to avoid frequency drift between the internal clocks of each device in the digital audio signal path. For the purposes of this setup, word clock sync can be derived from the Optical S/PDIF, BNC word clock and AES/EBU connections. Why is synchronization important? If word clock is not distributed properly a number of audible problems can occur including a collapse of the stereo image and loss of detail in high and low frequencies. Whenever possible, you should have a dedicated word clock connection between all digital audio components. The device which maintains the word clock on a network is the master clock. What is latency? Latency is the delay caused by the time it takes a computer to process data. All computer based recording systems have some measurable (but not necessarily audible) latency. For this recording system, latency is determined by the following formula: REAC Input Latency = Record Buffer size / SampleRate REAC Output Monitor Latency = REAC driver pre-roll * REAC Input Latency + Output Monitor Hardware Latency Note: The Output Monitor Hardware Latency value varies with each system. In the example below, a value of 6 milliseconds is used. 52 SONAR REAC Recording System User s Guide

53 For example: REAC Input Latency = 11520(default setting) / khz = 120 ms (0.12 sec) REAC Output Monitor Latency = 3 buffers * 120 ms + 6 ms= 366 ms (0.366 sec) Latency is managed by changing the buffer size. Depending on your workflow and needs, you can generally refer to the following guidelines when dealing with latency and playback/recording performance: Larger buffer size - Higher latency decreases processing load and is best for high track counts and long recordings (two hours or more). Smaller buffer size - Lower latency increases processing load and is best for lower track counts and shorter recordings. Caution: Before you begin: Ensure that all audio recording hard drives have been de-fragmented prior to recording. Ensure that there is enough unused hard drive space to record your project. Keep the computer in a cool, dry and safe location, preferably away from speakers and other high RF audio equipment. Use an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) for the computer and any other critical components. Disconnect the Ethernet cable from the PC when you start/restart/shutdown. You may also choose to disconnect the Ethernet cable between the PC and REAC System and/or V-Mixer as well to avoid unintentional loud noises when reconnecting. Before turning on power for the REAC System, switch off the DIGITAL IN button of the FA-66. After turning on the system, switch on the DIGITAL IN button. Before turning on power for the REAC System, turn off the OCTA-CAPTURE/VS-700R. After turning on the system, turn on the OCTA-CAPTURE/VS-700R. During the set-up process, your Network Settings and Security Settings were disabled in order to provide a stable recording environment. In order to obtain driver updates, you will need to manually change the settings back to allow the PC to connect to the Internet. Important: The sample rate automatically defaults to 96khz any time the REAC Digital Snake hardware is restarted. PC setup 53

54 Known issues The following are known issues in the REAC Driver that may be addressed in the future. Using large Output Buffer values in Freewheel (Re-sync) mode Note: The following issue only applies to SONAR 7, not SONAR 8 or later. With an Output Buffers setting of 16 or higher selected, there may be a large offset between the SONAR Now Time and when the audio is actually heard. One consequence of this offset is that the Now Time will reach and pass the start of an audio clip long before the audio can be heard. Another consequence is that when the end of the longest clip in a project is reached by the Now Time, playback will stop even though the audio has not finished playing to the end. The workaround is to change the Timing Offset (msec) option in the Advanced tab in SONAR's Audio Options dialog. Configure the Timing Offset (msec) value based on the following formula: -1 * ((Output Buffers /2) - 2) * reported ASIO latency in ms For example, if Output Buffers is set for 256 (the maximum, which should result in at least an hour of gapless audio depending on the audio hardware being used) the calculation would be -1 * ((256 /2) - 2) * 24ms or -126*24 = Setting Timing Offset (msec) to will result in audio that is in sync with what you hear. 54 SONAR REAC Recording System User s Guide

55 Troubleshooting REAC status indicator is red (Off) If the REAC status indicator in the REAC Panel is Red (Off), recheck all Ethernet and power connections to the PC and REAC system. Monitoring device is not listed If an audio device does not appear in the REAC Panel Output Monitor ASIO Device list, ensure that the monitoring device is connected, powered on and is set to the correct sample rate. If the sample rate on the monitoring device needs to be changed, follow the steps below: 1. Close SONAR 2. Turn the monitoring device off. You do not need to disconnect it from the PC. 3. Change the sample rate on the monitoring device. 4. Turn the monitoring device on. If you use the VS-700R, configure SYNC Source settings. 5. Start SONAR. 6. Open a project. You do not need to restart your computer in order for this change to take effect. REAC inputs are not listed/reac Panel does not open If you have created a new project in SONAR and do not see any REAC inputs available and/or the REAC Panel will not open, it is possible that there was a change in your hardware set-up since it was last used. Follow the steps below to reset the monitoring device back to the SPS/FA-66/VS-700R/OCTA-CAPTURE. 1. On the Edit menu, click Preferences to open the Preferences dialog. 2. Click Playback and Recording on the left side of the window. 3. In the Driver Mode box, select ASIO. 4. Click Apply. 5. Click Devices on the left side of the window. 6. Clear all of the Input/Output Drivers check boxes. 7. Select all REAC driver check boxes. 8. Click Apply. Note: Cakewalk FA-66 and the Cakewalk SONAR V-Studio VS-700R Rack Unit and Roland OCTA- CAPTURE are approved for use as monitoring devices with this system. REAC Driver provides legacy support to Edirol FA-66 and Cakewalk SPS-66 hardware, which have been discontinued. Troubleshooting 55

56 SONAR audio engine drops out while recording Some users may have Audio Engine dropouts when attempting to record large numbers of 96kHz/24-bit audio tracks, especially when using REAC and the Roland S Here are some tips to optimize SONAR for this configuration. Recording large projects consisting of multiple tracks at high sampling and bit rates can cause CPU or Disk strain on some PCs. If you experience Audio Engine dropouts (SONAR audio engine and the Now Time stops) while the transport is rolling or if you see high amounts or spikes in Disk or CPU utilization when recording projects, implementing one or more of the following tips may help reduce or eliminate Audio Engine dropouts. Make sure SONAR s Enable Write Caching option disabled. To change the setting, go to Edit Preferences, click the Advanced radio button and click Sync and Caching, then make sure the Enable Write Caching check box is cleared. Set SONAR s Playback I/O Buffer Size (KB) and Record I/O Buffer Size (KB) settings to To change the setting, go to Edit Preferences, click the Advanced radio button and click Sync and Caching, then type 1024 in the Playback I/O Buffer Size (KB) and Record I/O Buffer Size (KB) boxes. Note: Some systems may not see an improvement with a value of 1024, so leaving it at the default of 512 or trying some other value may be more helpful. In Aud.ini, you can set RecordPreAllocSeconds=<number of seconds>. This will pre-allocate the wave files to the desired length prior to recording. Specify the number of seconds that you expect to record. This reduces disk thrashing and possible audio engine dropouts. In Aud.ini you can set ComputePicturesWhilePlaying=0. This helps more if CPU usage is impacting the Audio Engine. For information about editing Aud.ini, see the SONAR online Help. Clicks and pops occur during recording If the recorded audio contains pop or clicks, increase the Record Buffer size in the REAC Control Panel dialog and try recording again. 56 SONAR REAC Recording System User s Guide

61 ROLAND SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT This is a legal agreement between you (an individual or a corporation) and Roland Corporation (herein referred to as Roland ) regarding the usage of this software product (herein referred to as SOFTWARE ). Please read carefully the terms of this License Agreement before installing or using the SOFTWARE. By installing, copying, or starting the use of the SOFTWARE, you hereby consent to the terms of this License Agreement. 1. Wenn Sie das VS-700R verwenden, öffnen Sie den VS-700R IO Editor und wählen Sie DIGITAL 1 unter SYNC SOURCE und COAXIAL unter DIGITAL 1 INPUT aus. Für die Aufnahme von 16 Eingängen des S-1608 und 8 Eingängen des S-0816 in SONAR verwenden Sie den REAC MODE-Schalter auf der Vorderseite der jeweiligen Geräte und konfigurieren das S-1608 als MASTER und das S-0816 als SLAVE. Das OCTA-CAPTURE, FA-66 oder das VS-700R wird während der Aufnahme für das Monitoring verwendet. Die Taktsynchronisierung der digitalen Audiodaten ist erforderlich, um Probleme wie Rauschen und Lücken beim Monitoring zu verhindern. 74 Softwareinstallation SONAR installieren Die folgenden Anweisungen gelten für alle unterstützten Versionen von SONAR Producer. 1. Legen Sie die SONAR-Producer-DVD in das DVD-ROM-Laufwerk ein. 2. Starten Sie das Installationsprogramm und folgen Sie der Bildschirmanleitung. 3. Starten Sie SONAR nach Abschluss der Installation und folgen Sie der Bildschirmanleitung zum Registrieren der Software. 4. Laden Sie alle vorhandenen Updates für SONAR herunter. Updates finden Sie auf der Cakewalk Website im Bereich SUPPORT ( Das Herunterladen von Updates setzt die Registrierung voraus. 5. Beenden Sie SONAR. REAC-Treiber installieren 1. Legen Sie die REAC Driver CD-ROM in das DVD-ROM-Laufwerk des PCs ein. 2. Doppelklicken Sie auf die Datei REACDriverSetup.exe im Stammverzeichnis der REAC Driver CD-ROM. 3. Der Installationsassistent für den REAC-Treiber wird angezeigt. Folgen Sie der Bildschirmanleitung, um mit der Installation anzufangen. 4. Security Center-Einstellung 1. Öffnen Sie die Windows Systemsteuerung. 2. Doppelklicken Sie auf Security Center. Das Fenster Windows Security Center wird geöffnet. 3. Der Treiber zeigt ein Dialogfeld an, das Sie auffordert, das FA-66 auszuschalten und anschließend wieder einzuschalten, bevor die Änderungen wirksam werden. 11. Zeigen Sie im Menü Start auf Alle Programme, und klicken Sie auf VS-700R IO Editor, um den VS-700R IO Editor zu öffnen. 3. Klicken Sie im Menü Setup auf Setup MIDI Device. 4. Wählen Sie unter VS-700R I/O den Eintrag IO (VS-700) in den Dropdownmenüs Input und Output. 5. Klicken Sie auf OK, um das Dialogfeld Set Up MIDI Devices zu schließen. 6. Vergewissern Sie such anhand der SYNC-LED auf der Vorderseite des VS-700R, ob das VS-700R zum REAC-System synchron läuft: Wenn die SYNC-LED des gewählten Digitaleingangs leuchtet, läuft das VS-700R synchron. Wenn die SYNC-LED des gewählten Digitaleingangs blinkt, läuft das VS-700R nicht synchron. Überprüfen Sie in diesem Fall die digitale Audiotaktverbindung und die Sampleraten beider Geräte (REAC-System und VS-700R). 8. Schließen Sie den VS-700R IO Editor. 106 Neues Projekt anlegen Hinweis : SONAR enthält 8-, 16- und 40-Kanal-REAC-Aufnahmevorlagen. 1. Klicken Sie im Menü Datei auf Neu, um das Dialogfeld Neue Projektdatei zu öffnen. 2. 107 Abmischen aufgezeichneter Audiodaten nach einer Livedarbietung Nach der Aufzeichnung können Sie die aufgenommenen Audiodaten mithilfe des Abhörgeräts und SONAR abmischen. So schalten Sie die Treiber für die Abmischung um: 1. Verbinden Sie das Abhörgerät mit dem PC und schalten Sie es ein. 2. Öffnen Sie SONAR und wählen Sie Voreinstellungen im Menü Bearbeiten. 3. Klicken Sie links auf Wiedergabe und Aufnahme. 4. Deaktivieren Sie alle Kontrollkästchen unter Eingangs-/Ausgangstreiber. 5. Aktivieren Sie alle Kontrollkästchen für Abhörgeräte. 6. Klicken Sie auf Übernehmen. 7. Starten Sie SONAR neu. Hinweis 1: Wenn Sie ein VS-700 verwenden, finden Sie weitere Informationen im Abschnitt Grundeinstellungen des Handbuchs Erste Schritte mit dem VS-700. Hinweis 2: Um auf die REAC-Aufzeichnung umzustellen, kontrollieren Sie bitte alle im vorliegenden Handbuch angegebenen Einstellungen und Konfigurationen. Dies betrifft z. 108 Das REAC-Steuerfeld Der folgende Abschnitt beschreibt die Bedienelemente des REAC-Treiber-Steuerfelds. Bevorzugte Synchronisationseinstellung Geschützt Diese Option ist standardmäßig eingestellt. REAC agiert als Takt-Master für SONAR und das Monitor-Gerät. Verwenden Sie diese Option, wenn eine physische Taktverbindung zwischen dem Monitor-Gerät und dem optischen, dem COAXIAL-, dem AES/EBU- oder dem Wordclock-Ausgang der REAC-Hardware besteht. Bei Auswahl von Geschützt ist die Schaltfläche Freilaufoptionen nicht verfügbar. Dies ist die optimale Synchronisationsmoduseinstellung für das Recording System. Andere mögliche Synchronisationseinstellungen In manchen Situationen kann es vorkommen, dass keine gesonderte Taktverbindung zwischen der REAC- Hardware und dem Monitoring-Gerät möglich ist. Die folgenden Takteinstellungen können als Alternative im REAC-Treiber-Steuerfeld eingerichtet werden. Bitte beachten Sie dabei, dass die nachfolgenden Einstellungen entweder die Latenzzeit erhöhen oder Lücken, Popp-, Klick- oder andere Störgeräusche verursachen, wenn Sie über ein zulässiges Audiointerface abhören. Dies hat jedoch keine Auswirkungen auf die eigentlichen Aufnahmen. Freilaufmodus (Autosync) Wenn dieser Modus gewählt ist, dient REAC nur für SONAR als Takt-Master. Verwenden Sie diese Option nur dann, wenn keine physische Taktverbindung zwischen dem Monitor-Gerät und dem optischen, dem COAXIAL-, dem AES/EBU- oder dem Wordclock-Ausgang der REAC-Hardware hergestellt werden kann. Bei Verwendung dieser Option besteht die Gefahr, dass beim Monitoring Audio-Signalausfälle auftreten. Die Auswahl dieser Option aktiviert die Schaltfläche Freilaufoptionen. Freilaufoptionen: Feststehend Diese Option ist standardmäßig im Freilaufmodus (Autosync) gewählt. Die Auswahl von Feststehend bedeutet, dass die Latenzzeit zwischen einem Audioereignis (Live-Monitoring oder Wiedergabe) konstant bleibt, trotz der Einstellung unter Ausgabepuffer. Allerdings kann dies die Gefahr von Lücken bei der Wiedergabe bzw. beim Monitoring erhöhen. Die Option Feststehend vergrößert die Puffergröße und ermöglicht eine bessere Wiedergabe. Pufferbasiert Diese Einstellung vergrößert den Aufnahmepuffer und gleicht so Taktquellen aus, die schneller sind oder mehr Jitter aufweisen als die REAC-Taktquelle. Zwar kann dies zu mehr Konsistenz bei der Audiowiedergabe führen, doch vergrößert sich auch die Latenz. 108 SONAR REAC Recording System Benutzerhandbuch

109 Nur Wiedergabe Wenn dieser Modus gewählt ist, dient das Abhörgerät als Taktmaster für SONAR. Diese Option ermöglicht eine optimale Wiedergabeleistung ohne physische Taktverbindung zwischen dem Monitor-Gerät und der REAC-Hardware. Die Auswahl dieser Option deaktiviert die Schaltfläche Freilaufoptionen. Record Only (Nur Aufnahme) Wenn dieser Modus gewählt ist, steht das Monitor-Gerät nicht zum Abhören zur Verfügung. Diese Option wird vornehmlich für Aufnahmezwecke ohne physische Taktverbindung zwischen dem Monitor-Gerät und der REAC-Hardware verwendet. Wenn der Modus Record Only (Nur Aufnahme) aktiviert ist, ist die Schaltfläche Freilaufoptionen nicht verfügbar. Ausgabepuffer Gibt die Anzahl der Ausgabepuffer an, die der REAC-Treiber selbst im Freilaufmodus verwendet. Das Herabsetzen des Werts erhöht die Häufigkeit von Lücken beim Abhören bzw. bei der Wiedergabe. Das Erhöhen des Werts verringert die Häufigkeit des Auftretens von Lücken, kann jedoch die Latenz steigern, je nach gewählter Einstellung für Feststehend bzw. Pufferbasiert. Sonstige Steuerfeld-Einstellungen und Bedienelemente REAC-Status Ein zeigt an, dass die SONAR-Workstation mit dem REAC-System verbunden ist und Daten empfängt. Aus kann auf ein Verbindungs- bzw. Kommunikationsproblem zwischen der REAC-Hardware und SONAR hinweisen. So kann es beispielsweise sein, dass das Ethernet-Kabel nicht an den PC angeschlossen ist oder ein Stromversorgungsausfall in einem Teil des REAC-Systems aufgetreten ist. Dieses Bedienelement funktioniert in Echtzeit und aktualisiert seinen Status, wenn eine Änderung der Verbindung über die REAC- System erkannt wird, auch während dieses Dialogfeld geöffnet ist. REAC-Eingänge Standardmäßig ist dieses Bedienelement auf die maximale Anzahl von Eingängen eingestellt, die aktuell auf Ihrer REAC-Hardware konfiguriert sind. Sie können diesen Wert wahlweise auf einen Wert herabsetzen, der geringer ist als die tatsächliche Zahl physikalischer Eingänge, so dass eine geringere Anzahl von Eingängen für SONAR verfügbar ist. Samplerate Gibt die REAC-Samplerate an. Wenn das REAC-Signal nicht erkannt wird, zeigt dieses Feld die zuletzt vom System erkannte Samplerate an. Hinweis : SONAR und das Monitor-Gerät (OCTA-CAPTURE, FA-66 oder VS-700R) müssen auf dieselbe Samplerate wie Ihr REAC-System bzw. Ihr V-Mixer eingestellt sein. PC-Einrichtung 109

110 Aufnahmepuffereinstellung Diese Einstellung dient zur Maximierung der Systemleistung bei der Aufnahme zahlreicher Spuren über eine längere Zeit hinweg (zwei Stunden und länger). Die Standardeinstellung ist Die Aufnahmepuffereinstellung kann herabgesetzt werden, um die Latenz zu senken, dabei können jedoch Lücken und Rauschen bei der Aufnahme auftreten. Wiedergabe-/Abhörgerät Über dieses Steuerfeld können Sie Ihr Monitor-Gerät konfigurieren. Im Dropdown-Menü werden nur unterstützte Geräte angezeigt. Steuerfeld Diese Schaltfläche wird verwendet, um das ASIO-Steuerfeld des unterstützten Monitor-Geräts zu öffnen. Info Diese Schaltfläche öffnet das Dialogfeld Info..., das Informationen zu Version und Copyright enthält. Hinweise zu Wordclock, Synchronisation und Latenz Was ist Wordclock? Wordclock ist ein Signal zur Synchronisierung digitaler Audiogeräte wie z. B. digitaler Mischpulte, Audio- Wandler und Audio-Workstations. Es sorgt für die Vorgabe einer gleichmäßigen, akkuraten Taktfrequenz und verhindert somit Datenfehler. Dies ist von entscheidender Bedeutung, wenn es darum geht, ein Frequenzdriften zwischen den internen Taktgebern der einzelnen Geräte im digitalen Audiosignalpfad zu vermeiden. Im Rahmen dieser Konfiguration erhalten Sie die Wordclock-Synchronisation über die Optical S/PDIF-, BNC- Wordclock- und AES/EBU-Verbindungen. Weshalb ist die Synchronisierung von Bedeutung? Wenn Wordclock nicht korrekt übertragen wird, kann es zu verschiedenen hörbaren Problemen kommen, unter anderem kann es zu Beeinträchtigungen des Stereobildes kommen und es können Detailverluste bei hohen und tiefen Frequenzen auftreten. Wo immer möglich sollte eine gesonderte Wordclock-Verbindung zwischen sämtlichen digitalen Audiokomponenten vorhanden sein. Das Gerät, das für die Ausgabe des Wordclocksignals in einem Netzwerk sorgt, ist der Takt-Master. Was ist Latenz? Latenz ist die Verzögerung, die auftritt, weil der Computer Zeit benötigt, um Daten zu verarbeiten. Jedes computerbasierte Aufnahmesystem hat eine gewisse messbare (aber nicht unbedingt hörbare) Latenz. Für dieses Aufnahmesystem wird die Latenz durch die folgende Formel bestimmt: REAC-Eingangslatenz = Größe des Aufnahmepuffers / Samplerate REAC-Ausgangsmonitorlatenz = REAC-Treiber-Vorlauf * REAC-Eingangslatenz + Ausgangsmonitor- Hardwarelatenz Hinweis : Der Wert für die Ausgangsmonitor-Hardwarelatenz unterscheidet sich in Abhängigkeit vom System. 111 Beispiel: REAC-Eingangslatenz = 11520(Standardeinstellung) / khz = 120 ms (0,12 Sek.) REAC-Ausgangs monitorlatenz = 3 Puffer * 120 ms + 6 ms = 366 ms (0,366 Sek.) Die Latenz wird durch Ändern der Puffergröße gesteuert. Je nach Workflow und Bedürfnissen können Sie allgemein auf die folgenden Richtlinien zurückgreifen, wenn es um Latenz und Wiedergabe-/Aufnahmeleistung geht: Größere Puffergröße - Eine höhere Latenz verringert die Verarbeitungsauslastung und ist ideal für eine große Zahl von Spuren und lange Aufnahmen (zwei Stunden und mehr). Kleinere Puffergröße - Eine niedrigere Latenz erhöht die Verarbeitungsauslastung und ist ideal für eine geringe Anzahl von Spuren und kürzere Aufnahmen. Vorsicht: Bevor Sie anfangen: Vergewissern Sie sich vor dem Aufnehmen, dass sämtliche für Audioaufnahmen vorgesehene Festplatten defragmentiert wurden. Vergewissern Sie sich, dass genügend ungenutzter Festplattenspeicher für die Aufnahme Ihres Projekts zur Verfügung steht. Stellen Sie den Computer an einem kühlen, trockenen und sicheren Ort auf, möglichst in gewisser Entfernung von Lautsprechern und anderen Audiogeräten mit hoher Radiofrequenz. Verwenden Sie ein unterbrechungsfreie Stromversorgung (USV) für den Computer und andere wesentlichen Komponenten. Trennen Sie das Ethernet-Kabel vom PC, wenn Sie das System starten/neu starten/herunterfahren. Es kann außerdem sinnvoll sein, das Ethernet-Kabel abzuziehen, das den PC und die REAC-System und/ oder den V-Mixer verbindet, um ungewollte laute Geräusche beim Wiederherstellen der Verbindung zu vermeiden. Schalten Sie den Schalter DIGITAL IN am FA-66 aus, bevor Sie die Stromzufuhr des REAC-Systems einschalten. Schalten Sie nach dem Einschalten des Systems den DIGITAL IN-Schalter ein. Schalten Sie ggf. zunächst das OCTA-CAPTURE bzw. VS-700R aus, und schalten Sie erst dann das REAC-System ein. Schalten Sie nach dem Einschalten des Systems das OCTA-CAPTURE bzw. VS-700R ein. Während der Einrichtung haben Sie Ihre Netzwerk- und Sicherheitseinstellungen deaktiviert, um eine stabile Aufnahmeumgebung zu gewährleisten. Um Treiberaktualisierungen herunterladen zu können, müssen Sie die Einstellungen manuell rückgängig machen, um die Herstellung einer Internetverbindung zu ermöglichen. Wichtig: Beim Neustart der REAC Digital Snake-Hardware wird die Samplerate automatisch auf den Standardwert von 96 khz zurückgesetzt. PC-Einrichtung 111

112 Bekannte Probleme Die folgenden Probleme mit dem REAC-Treiber sind bekannt und werden ggf. in künftigen Releases angegangen. Verwendung großer Ausgabepufferwerte im Freilaufmodus (Autosync). Hinweis: Das folgende Problem gilt nur für SONAR 7, nicht jedoch für SONAR 8 oder höher. Bei einer Ausgabepuffereinstellung von 16 oder höher kann es zu einer erheblichen Zeitverzögerung zwischen der SONAR Jetzt-Zeit und der tatsächlich hörbaren Audioausgabe geben. Eine Folge dieser Verzögerung ist, dass die Jetzt-Zeit den Anfang eines Audioclips erreicht und überschreitet, lange bevor eine Audioausgabe zu hören ist. Eine weitere Folge ist, dass die Wiedergabe aufhört, wenn das Ende des längsten Clips in einem Projekt in Jetzt-Zeit erreicht ist, obwohl die Audioausgabe noch nicht zu Ende ist. Dieser Effekt lässt sich umgehen, indem Sie die Einstellung der Option Timing Offset (ms) in der Registerkarte Erweitert des SONAR-Dialogfelds Audiooptionen anpassen. Konfigurieren Sie den Wert Timing Offset (ms) anhand der folgenden Formel: -1 * ((Ausgabepuffer /2) - 2) * berichtete ASIO-Latenzzeit in Millisekunden Wenn also die Einstellung unter Ausgabepuffer auf 256 eingestellt ist (der Maximalwert, der je nach verwendeter Audiohardware zu mindestens einer Stunde unterbrechungsfreier Audioausgabe führen müsste), wäre die Formel -1 * ((256 /2) - 2) * 24 ms oder -126*24 = Indem Sie Timing Offset (ms) auf einstellen, wird eine Audioausgabe erreicht, die synchron mit dem Gehörten läuft. 112 SONAR REAC Recording System Benutzerhandbuch

113 Problembehebung REAC-Statusanzeige ist Rot (Aus) Wenn die REAC-Statusanzeige im REAC-Fenster rot (Aus) ist, sollten Sie sämtliche Ethernet- und Netzverbindungen mit dem PC- und REAC-System erneut überprüfen. Monitor-Gerät ist nicht aufgeführt Wenn das Audiogerät nicht in der ASIO-Geräteliste für den Ausgangsmonitor des REAC-Steuerfelds aufgeführt ist, sollten Sie sich vergewissern, dass das Monitor-Gerät angeschlossen ist und mit Strom versorgt wird und die korrekte Samplerate eingestellt ist. Führen Sie die folgenden Schritte aus, wenn die Samplerate des Monitor-Geräts geändert werden muss: 1. Schließen Sie SONAR. 2. Schalten Sie das Monitor-Gerät aus. Sie müssen das Gerät nicht vom PC trennen. 3. Ändern Sie die Samplerate am Monitor-Gerät. 4. Schalten Sie das Monitor-Gerät ein. Konfigurieren bei Verwendung des VS-700R die Einstellungen für die Synchronquelle. 5. Starten Sie SONAR. 6. Öffnen Sie ein Projekt. Sie müssen Ihren Computer nicht neu starten, damit diese Änderung greift. REAC-Eingänge werden nicht aufgeführt/reac-steuerfeld wird nicht geöffnet Wenn Sie ein neues Projekt in SONAR angelegt haben und keine verfügbaren REAC-Eingänge sehen bzw. das REAC-Steuerfeld nicht geöffnet werden kann, ist es möglich, dass eine Änderung an Ihrer Hardwarekonfiguration vorgenommen wurde, seit diese zuletzt verwendet wurde. Führen Sie die folgenden Schritte aus, um das FA-66/VS-700R wieder als Monitor-Gerät einzustellen. 1. Klicken Sie im Menü Bearbeiten auf Voreinstellungen, um das Dialogfeld Voreinstellungen zu öffnen. 2. Klicken Sie links auf Wiedergabe und Aufnahme. 3. Wählen Sie im Feld Treibermodus die Option ASIO. 4. Klicken Sie auf Übernehmen. 5. Klicken Sie links auf Geräte. 6. Deaktivieren Sie alle Kontrollkästchen für Eingangs-/Ausgabetreiber. 7. Hinweis : Cakewalk FA-66, Cakewalk SONAR V-Studio VS-700R Rack Unit und Roland OCTA- CAPTURE sind als Monitorgeräte für dieses System zugelassen. Die Aufnahme großer Projekte mit mehreren Spuren bei hohen Sample- und Bitraten kann bei manchen PCs eine starke Belastung des Prozessors bzw. der Festplatte darstellen. Wenn es bei Ihnen zu Signalausfällen der Audio-Engine kommt (SONAR-Audio-Engine und die Jetzt-Zeit halten an) während der Transport läuft, oder falls Sie große Volumen bzw. Spitzen bei der Festplatten- bzw. Prozessorauslastung bei der Aufnahme von Projekten erleben, kann der Einsatz einer oder mehrerer der folgenden Methoden dazu beitragen, Ausfälle der Audio-Engine zu reduzieren bzw. zu beheben. Vergewissern Sie sich, dass die SONAR-Option Schreib-Cache aktivieren deaktiviert ist. Die Einstellung können Sie ändern, indem Sie Bearbeiten Voreinstellungen auswählen, auf das Optionsfeld Erweitert und dann auf Synchronisation & Cache klicken. Im angezeigten Fenster vergewissern Sie sich, dass das Kontrollkästchen Schreib-Cache aktivieren deaktiviert ist. Stellen Sie die SONAR-Einstellungen für I/O-Puffergröße für Wiedergabe (kb) und I/O-Puffergröße für Aufnahme (kb): auf 1024 ein. Die Einstellung können Sie ändern, indem Sie Bearbeiten Voreinstellungen auswählen, auf das Optionsfeld Erweitert und dann auf Synchronisation & Cache klicken. Dann geben Sie jeweils 1024 in die Felder I/O-Puffergröße für Wiedergabe (kb) und I/O- Puffergröße für Aufnahme (kb) ein. Hinweis : Bei manchen Systemen ist keine Optimierung durch den Wert 1024 zu erzielen. In diesem Fall kann es nützlicher sein, den Standardwert von 512 beizubehalten oder einen anderen Wert zu verwenden. In Aud.ini können Sie RecordPreAllocSeconds=<Sekundenzahl einstellen>. Hierdurch werden die Wave-Dateien der gewünschten Länge zugeordnet, noch bevor die Aufnahme erfolgt. Geben Sie an, wie viele Sekunden Sie planen, aufzunehmen. 125 Il est nécessaire de synchroniser l'horloge audio numérique afin d'éviter les problèmes de son sur le monitoring (parasites ou saccades, par exemple). Pour synchroniser un périphérique de monitoring FA-66 avec le système REAC, il suffit de relier la sortie numérique de la M-480/M-400/M-380 à l'entrée numérique de l'interface FA-66 à l'aide d'un câble optique. Si vous utilisez une interface VS-700R ou OCTA-CAPTURE, branchez un câble coaxial entre la sortie numérique de la console M-480/M-400/M-380 et l'entrée numérique de l'interface VS-700R ou OCTA-CAPTURE. Si vous utilisez une interface VS-700R, ouvrez l'éditeur d'entrées-sorties de cette interface et sélectionnez DIGITAL 1 dans SYNC SOURCE et COAXIAL dans DIGITAL 1 INPUT. Figure 14. 127 Les deux systèmes S-1608 doivent être configurés comme esclaves (SLAVE) à l'aide des commutateurs REAC MODE. La console M-300 doit quant à elle être configurée en position façade maître (FOH (MASTER)) à l'aide de l'option REAC Config. Pour plus d'informations, consultez le manuel de la console M-300. La fréquence d'échantillonnage du périphérique de monitoring doit être identique à celle de la console M-300. Pour vérifier la fréquence d'échantillonnage de la console M-300, procédez comme suit : 1. Appuyez sur le bouton SYSTEM. 2. À l'écran, recherchez le paramètre SAMPLE FREQ, qui indique la fréquence d'échantillonnage de la console M-300. Le pilote REAC peut recevoir jusqu'à 40 canaux de données audio en provenance du coupleur REAC intercalé entre le périphérique REAC esclave et la console M-300. Pour afficher sur l'écran de la console M-300 la source audio affectée à REAC A et REAC B, appuyez sur le bouton PATCHBAY de la console, puis sur le bouton OUTPUT et enfin sur le bouton REAC A (ou REAC B). Pour plus d'informations, consultez le manuel de la console M-300. Il est nécessaire de synchroniser l'horloge audio numérique pour éviter tout problème lors du monitoring (parasites, saccades, etc.). Pour synchroniser le périphérique de monitoring avec le système REAC lorsque vous utilisez l'interface FA-66, connectez simplement la sortie numérique de la console M-300 à l'entrée numérique de l'interface FA-66, à l'aide d'un câble optique. Si vous utilisez une interface VS-700R ou OCTA- CAPTURE, vous devez utiliser un convertisseur optique vers coaxial. Branchez un câble optique entre la sortie numérique de la console M-300 et l'entrée optique du convertisseur, et branchez un câble coaxial entre la sortie coaxiale du convertisseur et l'entrée numérique de l'interface VS-700R ou OCTA-CAPTURE. Si vous utilisez une interface VS-700R, ouvrez l'éditeur d'entrées-sorties de cette interface et sélectionnez DIGITAL 1 dans SYNC SOURCE et COAXIAL dans DIGITAL 1 INPUT. Pour enregistrer les 16 entrées du système S-1608 et les 8 entrées du système S-0816 dans SONAR, servez-vous des commutateurs REAC MODE situés sur la face avant des périphériques et configurez le S-1608 en MASTER (maître) et le S-0816 en SLAVE (esclave). 130 Installation logicielle Installer SONAR Les instructions suivantes s'appliquent à toutes les versions de SONAR Producer prises en charge. Consultez les instructions d'installation de SONAR. 1. Insérez le DVD SONAR Producer dans le lecteur de DVD-ROM du PC. 2. Exécutez le programme d'installation et suivez les instructions affichées à l'écran. 3. Une fois l'installation terminée, démarrez SONAR et suivez les instructions qui s'affichent pour procéder à l'enregistrement du logiciel. 4. Pensez à télécharger les éventuelles mises à jour de SONAR. Celles-ci sont disponibles dans la section SUPPORT ( du site Web de Cakewalk. Vous devez être un utilisateur enregistré pour obtenir les mises à jour. 5. Quittez SONAR. Installer le pilote REAC 1. Insérez le CD-ROM REAC Driver dans le lecteur de DVD-ROM du PC. 2. 132 Configuration du PC Les systèmes d'exploitation Windows suivants ont été approuvés : Windows 7 (32 ou 64 bits) Windows Vista SP2 (32 et 64 bits) Windows XP SP3 (32 bits) Suivez les instructions ci-dessous correspondant à votre système d'exploitation afin d'optimiser votre PC et de bénéficier de performances optimales lors de l'utilisation du système d'enregistrement. Ces modifications n'auront pas à être réitérées par la suite. Important : Avant de configurer l'ordinateur, vérifiez que vous avez bien suivi la procédure suivante : Vérifiez que vous avez connecté l'horloge audio numérique du système REAC à l'interface audio. Vérifiez que vous avez installé les logiciels et pilotes suivants : SONAR X1 Producer et les mises à jour disponibles. Le pilote REAC et le pilote REAC version Pilote de l'interface OCTA-CAPTURE, FA-66 ou VS-700. Si vous utilisez la VS-700R, veillez à installer l'éditeur d'e/s (IO Editor) de la console. Vérifiez que vous avez installé les pilotes les plus récents correspondant au jeu de composants et au processeur graphique de votre ordinateur. Il peut être utile de désactiver les fonctions de mise à jour automatique de certains logiciels, celles-ci étant susceptibles de réduire les performances de l'ordinateur. C'est notamment le cas pour les applications Adobe, QuickTime et bon nombre de pare-feux et d'antivirus. Configurer Windows 7 32 ou 64 bits Configuration des performances du PC 1. Configuration du réseau Commencez par désactiver les périphériques ou ports suivants dans le BIOS et par déconnecter les périphériques du PC : 2e port Ethernet (réseau local) Périphérique de réseau local sans fil Périphérique modem Pour plus d'informations sur la désactivation de ces périphériques ou de ces ports, consultez la documentation de votre ordinateur. Remarque : Le port Ethernet (réseau local) doit être utilisé uniquement pour l'enregistrement par le biais du système REAC. Il ne doit pas être utilisé par d'autres applications de type navigateur Web, client de courrier électronique, etc. Si des paquets de données sont transférés par le port Ethernet, ils provoqueront des saccades ou des craquements audibles lorsque vous enregistrerez à l'aide du système REAC. 1. Ouvrez le Panneau de configuration de Windows. 2. Double-cliquez sur Connexions réseau et Internet. La boîte de dialogue Connexions réseau s'affiche. 3. Cliquez sur l'icône Connexions réseau. 4. Si plusieurs connexions sont répertoriées, désactivez-les toutes à l'exception de la connexion au réseau local utilisée pour la communication avec le système REAC. Comment désactiver les connexions? 1. Cliquez avec le bouton droit de la souris sur l'icône de la connexion à désactiver. 2. Dans le menu contextuel, cliquez sur Désactiver. 3. Branchez l'adaptateur secteur à l'interface FA Connectez l'interface FA-66 au PC à l'aide d'un câble FireWire. 5. Ouvrez le Panneau de configuration de Windows. 6. Le pilote affiche une boîte de dialogue indiquant que l'interface FA-66 doit être mise hors tension puis rallumée pour que les modifications soient prises en compte. 11. Dans VS-700R I/O, sélectionnez IO (VS-700) dans les menus déroulants Entrée et Sortie. 5. Cliquez sur OK pour fermer la boîte de dialogue Configurer le périphérique MIDI. 6. Observez la DEL SYNC située sur le panneau avant de la VS-700R afin de vérifier si la VS-700R est bien synchronisée sur le système REAC : Si la DEL SYNC de DIGITAL INPUT est allumée, c'est que la VS-700R est synchronisée. Si la DEL SYNC de DIGITAL INPUT clignote, c'est que la VS-700R n'est pas synchronisée. Le cas échéant, vérifiez les connexions de l'horloge audio numérique, la fréquence d'échantillonnage des deux périphériques, le système REAC et la VS-700R. 8. Fermez l'éditeur d'e/s (IO Editor) de la VS-700R. Remarque :Vous devez appliquer ces paramètres de source de synchronisation (SYNC SOURCE) chaque fois que vous allumez la VS-700R. 161 Pour désactiver le plugin de la surface de contrôle VS-700C Si vous utilisez une surface de contrôle VS-700, suivez les étapes suivantes pour désactiver le plugin VS Dans le menu Edition, cliquez sur Préférences pour ouvrir la boîte de dialogue Préférences. 2. Cliquez sur Surfaces de contrôle dans la partie gauche de la fenêtre. 3. Sélectionnez VS-700 et cliquez sur le bouton Supprimer. 4. Cliquez sur Appliquer. Remarque : Veuillez noter que lorsque le plugin de la contrôle de surface VS-700C est désactivé presque tous les boutons et commandes de la VS-700C sont inaccessibles pendant l'enregistrement avec le système REAC. 162 Créer un projet Remarque : SONAR intègre des modèles d'enregistrement REAC regroupant 8, 16 ou 40 canaux. 1. Dans le menu Fichier, cliquez sur Nouveau afin d'ouvrir la boîte de dialogue Nouveau fichier de projet. 2. Dans la liste Modèle, sélectionnez le modèle REAC. 3. Sélectionnez l'option Enregistrer les données audio dans un dossier séparé. 4. Dans la zone Nom, saisissez le nom du projet. 5. Dans les zones Emplacement et Chemin des données audio, indiquez le disque dur utilisé pour l'enregistrement des données audio. Remarque 1 : Les modèles conçus pour la console M-400 sont compatibles avec la console M-380. Les modèles conçus pour la console M-300 sont compatibles avec la console M-480. Remarque 2 : Le dossier défini dans Chemin des données audio doit se trouver sur le disque dur dédié à l'enregistrement des données audio. 6. Cliquez sur OK.
