COMMUNICATION FROM THE CIK-FIA MAIN DECISIONS OF THE WORLD MOTOR SPORT COUNCIL OF THE FIA REGARDING KARTING 2007/05/a1 During its meeting on 27 June 2007 in Paris, the World Motor Sport Council of the FIA took the following decisions regarding Karting: Sporting Regulations The World Council has approved a Code of Driving Conduct on Karting Circuits derived from the Code of Driving Conduct on Circuits of Appendix L to the FIA International Sporting Code. This new Code of Conduct specific to Karting will be published in an appendix to the General Prescriptions of the 2008 CIK Yearbook. In the 2008 CIK-FIA European Superkart Championship Sporting Regulations, a qualitative eligibility criterion is added to the single criterion which was applied until now (namely the date of receipt of entry applications) as in this Championship the maximum quota of entries is usually reached. The new priority eligibility criterion will be based on the quality of results achieved in the Championship of the previous year. Technical Regulations The World Council has approved the deregulation of the cooling radiator of engines in the KF3 category to allow competitors to mount a radiator with appropriate dimensions for their local climate. Clarifications concerning the Technical Regulations of the new KF engines have been adopted as regards: the control of carburettors, the functioning of the exhaust valve, the measuring of the cylinder block height, elements which must not be modified with regard to the data of the Homologation Form, the tolerances for the measuring of the dimensions of pistons, crankshafts & conrods, reed boxes, balance shafts and exhausts. The KF engine Manufacturers are also required to supply to the CIK and to applying ASNs template kits for the control of all the cylinder development dimensions and of the shape of transfers at the level of the gasket plane of the cylinder base. From 2008, the following engine elements will be made free in the KF1 category: piston, cylinder block height, distance between the upper plane of the piston and that of the liner. COMMUNICATION FROM THE CIK-FIA Homologation Regulations Within the framework of the future homologation of chassis, brakes and bodywork (valid on 1 January 2009), the World Council has approved a modification to the homologation calendar, which is advanced by two months with regard to the usual homologation calendar (beginning of the procedure on 1 August 2008 instead of 1 October 2008), and late inspections will no longer be accepted (inspections will take place between 15 September and 30 November 2008). It was decided that the bodywork element called front panel would be submitted to impact testing ( crash-tests ). This new procedure is added to the impact testing which has already been carried out for 5 years within the framework of the homologation of front, side and rear bodywork. Concerning the new KF engines, the World Council has approved the proposal not to allow homologation extensions regarding cylinders. It must also be remembered that, in order to prevent Manufacturers from creating new models during the same triennal homologation period, the engine Homologation Regulations automatically ban the possibility to make extensions concerning the following elements: mechanical design and general aspect, bore, stroke, conrod length, orientation of the reed box, number of transfer ducts, presence of the power-valve and exhaust. 2008 CIK-FIA Calendar As a supplement to the 2008 calendar of the CIK-FIA Championships, Cups and Trophies partly approved in July 2006, the World Council has ratified the allocation of the CIK-FIA European KF2 and KF3 Championships Western Region Qualification event to the circuit of Alcaniz (Spain) on the date of 10-13 July 2008, and that of the KF2, KF3 and KZ2 Viking Trophy event to the Kimi Circuit of Lappeenranta (Finland) on the date of 13-15 June 2008. COMMUNIQUÉ DE LA CIK-FIA PRINCIPALES DÉCISIONS DU CONSEIL MONDIAL DU SPORT AUTOMOBILE DE LA FIA CONCERNANT LE KARTING 2007/05/f1 À l occasion de sa réunion du 27 juin 2007 à Paris, le Conseil Mondial du Sport Automobile de la FIA a pris les décisions suivantes en matière de Karting : Règlement Sportif Le Conseil Mondial a approuvé un Code de Conduite sur Circuit de Karting dérivé du Code de Conduite sur Circuit de l Annexe L au Code Sportif International de la FIA. Ce nouveau Code de Conduite spécifique au Karting sera publié dans une annexe aux Prescriptions Générales de l Annuaire 2008 de la CIK. Un critère qualitatif d éligibilité en complément de l unique critère jusqu ici en vigueur (à savoir la date de réception des demandes d engagement) a été ajouté au Règlement Sportif du Championnat d Europe CIK-FIA 2008 de Superkart, championnat dont le quota maximum d engagés est régulièrement atteint. Le nouveau critère d éligibilité prioritaire sera fondé sur la qualité des résultats obtenus lors du Championnat de l année précédente. Règlement Technique Le Conseil Mondial a approuvé la libéralisation du radiateur de refroidissement des moteurs de la catégorie KF3, afin de permettre aux concurrents de monter un radiateur dont les dimensions sont en adéquation avec leur climat local. Des clarifications au Règlement technique des nouveaux moteurs KF ont été adoptées concernant : le contrôle des carburateurs, le fonctionnement de la valve à l échappement, la mesure de la hauteur du bloc-cylindre, les modifications interdites par rapport aux données figurant sur la Fiche d Homologation, les tolérances pour les mesures des dimensions des pistons, embiellages, boîtes à clapets, arbres d équilibrage et échappements. Les Constructeurs de moteurs KF sont aussi tenus de fournir à la CIK et aux ASN qui en feront la demande, des kits de gabarits permettant de contrôler toutes les grandeurs du développement du cylindre et la forme des transferts au niveau du plan de joint du pied du cylindre. COMMUNIQUÉ DE LA CIK-FIA A partir de 2008, les éléments suivants des moteurs seront libéralisés en catégorie KF1 : piston, hauteur du bloc-cylindre, distance entre le sommet du piston et celui de la chemise. 2007/05/f2 Règlement d Homologation Dans le cadre des futures homologations de châssis, freins et carrosseries (valables au 1 er janvier 2009), le Conseil Mondial a approuvé une modification du calendrier d homologation, lequel est avancé de deux mois par rapport au calendrier habituel des homologations (début de la procédure au 1 er août 2008, au lieu du 1 er octobre 2008) et de ne plus autoriser d inspections retardées (inspections limitées dans le temps, entre les 15 septembre et 30 novembre 2008). Il a été décidé de soumettre aux essais de chocs ( crash-tests ) l élément de carrosserie appelé panneau frontal. Cette nouvelle procédure s ajoute aux essais de chocs déjà pratiqués depuis 5 ans dans le cadre des homologations de carrosseries avant, latérales et arrière. Concernant les nouveaux moteurs KF, le Conseil Mondial a approuvé la proposition de ne pas autoriser d extensions d homologation s appliquant aux cylindres. Afin d éviter la création de nouveaux modèles par les Constructeurs au cours d une même période triennale d homologation, il est rappelé par ailleurs que le Règlement d Homologation des moteurs exclut d office la possibilité d obtenir des extensions pour les éléments suivants : conception mécanique et ligne générale, course, alésage, longueur de bielle, orientation de la boîte à clapets, nombre de canaux de transfert, présence de la power-valve, échappement. Calendrier 2008 de la CIK-FIA En complément du calendrier 2008 des Championnats, Coupes et Trophées de la CIK-FIA partiellement approuvé en juillet 2006, le Conseil Mondial a validé l attribution de l épreuve de Qualification de la Région Ouest au Championnat d Europe CIK-FIA de KF2 et KF3 au circuit d Alcaniz (Espagne) à la date des 10-13 juillet 2008 et l attribution de l épreuve du Viking Trophy de KF2, KF3 et KZ2 au Kimi Circuit de Lappeenranta (Finlande) à la date des 13-15 juin 2008.
