1 - FET OPEN 2014-2015
FET Open : Expected impact Proposals must aim at one of the following two impacts: Initiating a radically new line of technology by establishing Proof-of-Principle of a new technological possibility and its new scientific underpinning, or Kick-starting an emerging innovation eco-system of high-potential actors around a solid baseline of feasibility and potential for a new technological option, ready for early take-up. The active involvement of new and high-potential research and innovation players, which may become the European scientific and technological leaders of the future, is encouraged. Impact is also sought in terms of take up of new research and innovation practices and, more generally, from making leading-edge science and technology research more open, collaborative, creative and closer to society.

FET Open in WP2014-15 FETOPEN 2014-2015: FET-Open research projects Specific challenge Supporting a large set of early stage, high risk visionary science and technology collaborative research projects is necessary for the successful exploration of new foundations for radically new future technologies. Nurturing fragile ideas requires an agile, risk-friendly and highly interdisciplinary research approach, expanding well beyond the strictly technological disciplines. Recognising and stimulating the driving role of new high-potential actors in research and innovation, such as women, young researchers and high-tech SMEs, is also important for nurturing the scientific and industrial leaders of the future. Reason(s) for Ineligibility The Part B (1-3 sections) is 19 pages long, and exceeds 16 pages limit set for the call. The opinion of the evaluators and of the panel is that the proposal consists essentially in the development of industrial management tool informed by AI methods and does not address any of the three aspects of the call on "Knowing, Doing, Being: Cognition beyond problem solving". The proposal might be worthwhile under some other program. The part including the cover page and the sections 1, 2 and 3 is longer than 16 pages. The opinion of the majority of experts in the panel is that the proposal content does not sufficiently address the scope defined by the call on "Quantum Simulations". The panel via majority vote decided that the proposal is out of scope

The Human Brain Project (HBP) HBP will create the wold's largest experimental facility for developing the most detailed models of the brain (from genes to mind), for studying how the human brain works and ultimately for simulating and developing personalised treatment of brain diseases. This research lays the scientific and technical foundation for medical progress: identifying new drug targets and treatment, in response to the urgent need to combat brain diseases and their associated costs to society. HBP will also produce brain-inspired neuromorphic computing systems that could drastically reduce powerconsumption for super-computers and enhance robots. 54
