2 2 INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE SUPERVISOR AND THE TEACHER INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE SUPERVISOR The group for a single session for this examination should not comprise more than 40 candidates. Ask whether any candidates have any difficulty in hearing. Such candidates should be seated as near as possible to the teacher. Ensure that the teacher reading the listening passages has a copy of this booklet. Ensure that each candidate has a copy of the French booklet. In no circumstances should the teacher see any copy of the candidates booklet before or while reading the listening passages. NOTE: Forty minutes is suggested for the listening assessment. Teachers should NOT be stopped if they exceed the 40 minutes. The timing of the various passages is to be done by the teacher. At the end of the listening passages, candidates will continue with the other assessment activities for French Level 1. INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE TEACHER You should allow up to 40 minutes for the assessment of French Begin reading at the point marked * near the top of page 3. Read out to the candidates all the material printed in italics, according to the instructions given. Read at a normal classroom learning speed. It is recommended that, as you complete each reading, you tick the boxes alongside the pause instructions. Details of the number of readings are printed in the candidates booklets as part of their instructions.

3 INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE TEACHER READING THE LISTENING MATERIAL Read out to the candidates all the material printed below in italics, according to the instructions given. Tick the boxes as you complete each reading. * Open your Question and Answer Booklet, French 90084, at page 2, Question One. You have one minute to read Question One. Pause one minute. 3 QUESTION ONE: UNDERSTANDING A NEWS REPORT You will hear a French local radio station s report of a road accident. You will hear the passage three times. The first time you will hear it as a whole. Just listen to get the general idea. Then you will hear it twice more, in sections, for you to focus on the relevant details. There will be a pause after each reading. Write your answers in English. Your answers should be based on the information heard. You will be rewarded for providing: all the information requested detailed answers. Get ready to listen. Pause 5 seconds. Mrs Jackson has asked the tourist office of St Pierre to get back to her with some information. You will hear the message they left on her answering machine. You will hear the passage three times. The first time you will hear it as a whole. Just listen to get the general idea. Then you will hear it read twice more, in sections, for you to focus on the relevant details.
