Also knowledge of a language can help you prepare for study or a work placement abroad. The foreign language courses will help you obtain the following competence : Working in an international/intercultural environment. The graduate is able to engage in appropriate and meaningful communications with international /intercultural stakeholders French 2 is a training for French advanced on B1 level as described in the Common European Framework of Reference: ce/cef_english.htm The level of proficiency at the end of French 2 is that of level B2. Assessment criteria: Assignment (40 %) in week 8 of block C : this will be a presentation about a subject connected to the field of communication (for example: a presentation of a French enterprise or organization). The assignment has to contain: - written part: a draft + detailed hand-out - oral part: power point presentation in class + video Exam (60 %) divided in a general language course exam (written exam, weighing 40 %) during the exam week of block D and an integrated language course exam (oral exam, weighing 20 %) in week 6 of block D. Course content French 2 is a training for French advanced on B1 level as described in the Common European Framework of Reference: _reference/cef_english.htm The students will have general language lectures French 2 : once a week (120 minutes) during 7 weeks in both block 3 and 4 (continuation of French 1). During the lectures we ll use the book français.com, highly focussed on business French, and du français des affaires. We ll dedicate time to grammar (explanation and exercises) and we ll reserve some time for conversation and listening exercises. Students will be encouraged to express themselves in daily situations and typically French circumstances. The students will also have integrated language lectures French 2 : once a week (120 minutes) during 7 weeks in both block 3 and 4. During these lectures we ll dedicate time to French presentation skills (block 3) and job interview skills and vocabulary related to Change Management and/or Media Research in conversations (block 4). 3. Course structure and methods The students will have lectures twice a week (120 minutes each lecture) during 7 weeks in both block C and D. Assessment and evaluation In order to find out whether you really have obtained the sub-competencies there will be 2 assessments: Assignment (40 %) in week 8 of block C : this will be a presentation about a subject connected to the field of communication (for example: a presentation of a French enterprise or organization). 7 - written part: a draft + detailed hand-out - oral part: power point presentation in class + video Exam (60 %) divided in a general language course exam (weighing 40 %) during the exam week of block D and an integrated language course exam (weighing 20 %) in week 7 of block D. The general language course exam (40 %) will be one test about: - Vocabulary / phraseology - Grammar: avant de/ après + infinitif le gérondif (pour exprimer la simultanéité) les valeurs de l article les négations particulières : jamais, non plus, ni...ni..., etc. le pronom EN les quantités déterminées : un kilo de, un peu de, un litre de, etc. les adverbes les nombres les comparaisons le plus-que-parfait la condition et l hypothèse le subjonctif présent : formation + usage la condition : gérondif + conjonctions la concordance des temps dans le discours rapporté l accord du participe passé le conditionnel passé You will have to study: - the chapters in français.com, Niveau intermédiaire - exercises of chapters in «le cahier» - the chapters 11, 12, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 28, 29, 30, 31 in du français des affaires The integrated language course exam (20 %) will be an oral exam (job interview) in week 7. During the weeks 1-5 of block D, you will have to respect the following deadlines: - 2b : hand in the description of the courses Change Management et Media Research - 4b : hand in a job advertisement and result of the test Quel type de stagiaire êtes-vous? - 5b : hand in to application letter and CV In week 7 you will have to do a job interview with your teacher. Evaluation Both the assignment and exam should be 5.5. or more. Resit The resit for the assignment will take place in week 6 of block D. Page 7 of 8

8 The resit for the written exam of the general language course will take place in the exam period of block E. The resit for the exam of the integrated language course will take place in period E by making an appointment with the teacher. 5. Study load Students should count on around 140 hours of work in period C and D. (5 EC) Lectures: 14 weeks x 4 hours = 56 hrs Tests: assignment and written exam 4 hrs Homework (including preparation tests) 80 hrs Total French 1 (5 EC): 5 x 28 hours = 140 hrs This means that each block (both block C and D) the students have to dedicate a lot of time to their individual work: 80 hrs during the 2 blocks = 40 hrs per block. This is about 40 hrs in 8 weeks 5 hrs per week per block. 6. Competences The foreign language courses will help you obtain the following competence: 10.Working in an international/intercultural environment The graduate is able to engage in appropriate and meaningful communications with international /intercultural stakeholders 7. How the course fits in the greater programme French 2 is related to all the courses dealing with communication skills and intercultural communication. French 2 is especially related to the modules Change Management and Media Research. If you want to work in an international organisation, knowledge of a foreign language is very important. Also knowledge of a language can help you prepare for study or a work placement abroad. Entry requirements Having passed French 1 is highly recommended.. Page 8 of 8
